    Something I’ve learned from an oil expert years ago was, after washing your equipment, grease every single fitting on the machine, the grease will push out any water that might have gotten into the bearings etc. therefore reducing the possibility of rust forming in the bearings.

    • @ourcountryadventures
      @ourcountryadventures ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think his issue is the pressure washer forces/sneaks water past the seal on the closed bearing and then -30c comes along and the bearing seals blow out.

    • @Kempfkattle
      @Kempfkattle ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I’m sure that is the concern, as with sealed bearings grading them isn’t an option. I was simply sharing a tip I learned from someone smarter than myself.

    Your Dad's look at you when he said "trying to figure out the hoses" was priceless. At that moment he was making up a reason... "gotta get gloves" (while smirking, almost laughing) to escape.
    Hilarious Father/Son interaction, as well as a veteran move by your elder as he was most likely taking recent surgery into consideration.

    I just feel like as a diesel tech I need to educate. The more you idle equipment, the more it will need to regen (or burnout). If a unit is working it will make enough heat to regen passively while you're working. So reducing idle time reduces stationary regens. Also regens have little to do with the def system. Regens burn off soot that has collected in the particulate filter. Def is injected after the dpf system to reduce nox emissions

    There once was a "mechanic" said never wash the combine. One day he had to change a bearing and had to torch it out. Ok, torch. Some oil down the side of the combine caught fire and burned the combine and the shed. The moral of the story is if you are going to torch a bearing it would be a good idea to wash the area first.

    • @agger838

      It wants you to keep it running for 10 mins to allow the exhaust components to cool down since it was doing a regen burn, which gets it very hot. If you turn it off when hot it could damage components

    • @mammutMK2
      @mammutMK2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carlwood1432 that's a complete different topic. Like you need a bit of warm up befor going to full power, turning of a burning hot engine will cause damage. Even had a car that reduced power when cold and warning when turning off hot...a friend killed two turbo chargers through hot shut downs.
      But in this case keeping the machine running 15 min in idle burning 8 gallons of fuel for def system cleaning is really environment friendly. Had the system disabled on our forklifts, 4 hour of operation needed 30 min exhaust burn out where you couldn't used it...happened two times a day

    Something you can do with your grain leg is fill the bottom with sand. The buckets will scoop the right shape out of the sand. The corn will get picked up off the surface of the sand and the small amount that gets picked up wont impact the grain. But it stops you from getting a big amount of rotten grain in the bottom.

    How many millions of dollars is there just in tractors, implements, skid steer, UTV, semi’s? Then there are buildings, grain bins,,dryers etc, then land owned and rented. Oh boy.
    When my parents sold the 360 acre dairy farm 5 miles north of Grand Meadow Minnesota in 1981 it sold for $1,800,000. Sadly they sold it to a dishonest guy who defaulted on the contract for deed in 1985. My parents finally went after him in 1986 and got it back in 1987. They sold it a month later leaving not much money for my parents to split after paying the lawyer.

    With the pressure washing you really got to watch what they are using for detergent? If it's citrus based, it can strip the clear coat right off and you end up with a real flat color (like flat black or green). We used a product at work called red devil which was amazing, you used a foam adapter on the washer nozzle and when the foam hit grease you could watch the grease fall off in front of you! The unfortunate problem was not only the grease was gone but so was the clear coat! No more shine.
