In this video I had to dig deep in order to repair this solar light due to its major fault. It is working and now reunited with its now near identical twin solar lamp in the garden.

I like that you take the time to explain the use of the materials and the soldering process. Thank you!

    Great video. Liked and Subscribed.
I've been repairing solar lights for about 6 years now and the issues I run into range from simple things like a dead battery that just needs to be replaced or charged all the way up to full on corrosion, ant infestations, damaged circuit boards and the worst of all, a huntsman spider.
My success rate for repairing solar lights has slowly increased over time and I always keep a good supply of spare parts on hand.
I also have my dad who helps me with soldering broken connections and a high end battery charger witch tells me how much capacity a battery has and can charge all the common battery types found in solar lights, both nickel and lithium based.
Your idea for reusing the old solar panel as a cover is something I've never thought of doing but I might give it a shot and see how well it works for me.

I see you are using same methood like me with hairdryer :) Yes that glass ones are hard to resolder, only if there is a little of previous solder we can solder it again or using conductive glue. I also making my own lights (highest 10W solar LED, normal 1W solar LED working now 3 years all nights) and also improoving brightness of bought ones to better versions. Sometimes by switching oryginal LED to super bright one also give a loot more of light.

I’m impressed by the customisation you describe, I’ve never thought of upgrading them, it’s a really good idea.

@@TheRepairer Yes, also you can make solar light from broken night light, normal broken light bulb or something like wardrobe light. It is also possible to make it from any light. I was making them so if you are interested in i can share shematic or projects with you. I have for examle normal E14 LED bulb which contain all solar IC and battery inside. Solar panel is connected to E14 socket to give charge. The most unexpected for usual person is when you take it out from socket it glows ;) - disconnected solar panel make it indicate night and turning on.

I checked the battery and it is fine. I tested the connections to the battery and there is no power registering on the multimeter. My question is do I first take apart the light connections or go immediately to taking apart the solar cell glue to check those connections to the solar cell? Thanks.

It looks like a defective solar cell (I’ll assume it was checked in good daylight) put some pressure / scratch around on the multimeter probes when testing just to be sure theres no oxidation on the terminals.

Depends, where you tested them. Battery ok, check on terminals, check after the switch if voltage it is ok (can be switch fail). If battery is good and failed panel, you should have all time switched on LED when you put charged battery. Also check solar cell by checking voltage and current on pins where it is connected to board. Also if still 0 or low value desolder one wire and check voltage again. If still 0V or low value take out solar panel. In my 10 years with solar lights i experienced one failure when IC was shorting solar panel and two fails with board which was open circuit between pins which was normally shorted.
