*UPDATE! Someone pointed out that you can adjust the Vacuum and Sealing times on the Anova by holding down the icons until the arrows pop up. I can confirm this IS the case and it does work but the arrows are not very sensitive and you do have to push them pretty hard.* These Bags will fit BOTH units 11" wide x10" long and they are only $32 for 250 bags - amzn.to/3xCLZhH
Hence the customer service was mentioned, I can add that Anova gave me a completely new soue vide 6 years after my first broke down ( Gen.1) , Completely free!!! and they gave me the latest version as well which was Gen 4. Thanks for the video :D Will get an anova : )
On the other hand, my sous vide wand was one month out of warranty and I reached out to Anova about the propeller shaft being defective and rubbing against the water director and they told me to pound sand, even though it was clearly a factory defect. Would not purchase anything form them ever again.
Thanks for making these videos. Great information! I just received mine yesterday. I wanted to note that the vacuum time IS adjustable on the Anova. You hold down the Vacuum icon for three seconds, and arrows appear next to the time that you can adjust up or down. Similar process can be used to adjust the sealing time.
@@FireWaterCooking Love the review. I just saw your other video on how to use a bag outside the chamber to pack a larger item and it works great - Curious if the Anova does this as well as the one in your video, which looks a bit beefier than the 2 reviewed here.
You can with the anova. It's in the anova video for it. It's why there's a circular depression in the machine. I'm sure there are specific instructions to follow, but it looks like it can be done.
Have you tried the infuse setting on the anova? I tend to use garlic and vinegar as dipping sauce and would love this setting. Would the Avid Armor have the same results by using the marinate function?
so between the anova and the avid armor usv20 which one Is quieter and which one would you recommend, and if I got the us30v is the only difference really just the size and bigger and longer seal bar, as in same sound for each of them?
Thanks for the video. If I saw this a day earlier, I would have gone with the Anova. With the 20% anova coupon, and 10% avid armor coupon, the Anova is around $50 cheaper with taxes in my area. I initially thought that the quality to include the motor would be different but based on your video, they are the same. I actually timed the normal cycle on both units on your video, Avid Armor completed 3 seconds faster due to the longer cooling time for the Anova.
I don’t see where these are made by the same company. Anova Culinary has been around since 2013 and Avid Armor 2016. Anova has a better return policy of 100 day vs 30 days for Avid Armor. Anova has preset features such as infuse/extract, compress/pickle and dry/cool that makes it easier to deal with their recipes. You are on your own to figure out the equivalents with Avid Armor
both of these units are NOT made by either company. they are made by the same company in China and rebadged with their brand and logos on them. They can also adjust some functions and buttons, but they are mostly the same unit. There are a TON of products that do this and you would be surprised how many. The pre-set features are simply pre-set times for vacuum and sealing and mean nothing.
Anova looks way better, and the analog dial is just more moving parts to break. Anova seems to be using capacitive conductive switches while Avid Armor seems to be using foil button mechanical contact switches. You can see you fumble with the Avid Armor switch a bit there. I'm buying Anova.
The Anova is kinda somewhere between the USV20 and USVX with maybe a better interface than a USVX, eh? I just received a USVX, but it's almost not adjustable enough... No gauge, short maximum vacuum time.
not really, i think the usv20 is just a little better than the Anova due to where the controls are located. I think the Anova will have more issues with things breaking because of that..
Thanks again Darrin for posting this comparison video. If had to choose only one of these, which one would you go for and why? (besides probable better US customer service for Avid Armor)
@@FireWaterCooking Thanks for your reply. Do you like the touch sensitive controls for the Anova compared to the Avid Armor which may be unresponsive at times based on your videos? My USV20 will be delivered in a day or two.
Thank you for your video comparing the two! Unfortunately I had to return my Avid Armor (not once but twice) because the machine would puff the bags so big during the cycle it looked like it was ready to pop, and bags still had air in them after sealing. I saw the Anova but didn't purchase it because it looked too similar to the Avid Armor. I purchased the Vac100 (using your coupon) and couldn't be happier!
Never had it happen with the Vac 100 but it happened every single time with the Avid Armor, wierd but oh well everything is fine now. Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for this video. Based in the UK the Anova was the easier machine to buy, if I was in the US I think I would have gone for the Avid Armor just for that local support. Your video is the only one I have seen that appears to confirm that the Ports on both machines are the same, and so I could purchase avid armor and magic vac accessories… is this right? I have food saver mason jar attachments that I used with my old food saver sealer and would love to pass this stuff in to somebody else if I could do that stuff with avid armor kit on the Anova, I just need somebody to say yes I have actually tried it and it does work before I go to the hassle of trying to get it sent over to me from the US… thanks again for your channel. Pete
For the Anova if you want to just seal you need to do a vac and seal BUT you can press the down arrow to skip from vac straight to seal. So maybe it pulls a vacuum for 1 second and then it’ll just go to the seal stage.
@@FireWaterCooking Thanks for your video, much appreciated. It appears to me that the "guts" of both machines are the same. From your video, the main difference appears to be cosmetics. The analogy gauge, and stainless shell might give the Avid Armor the edge. However, personally, the extra one year warranty, and the lower price point of the Anova, gets my vote.
Just started researching these vacuum chambers but, all things being equal, I think I'd avoid this Anova model because of all of the "brains" of the unit, or at least all of the display parts, being mounted on the moving lid. Just like laptop displays can fail because of the wires passing through a moving hinge, I can see where Anova might have similar issues with this design.
@@FireWaterCooking I just got the Anova for $261 right now incl taxes and shipping. I get it, you’re an avid armor affiliate so you get money for ppl clicking your link to buy, but the Anova is the better deal.
I got seven minutes in and knew that ANOVA had made another clunker. I started sous vide w/a home built, then moved to a PolyScience unit (expensive but I sold it for what I paid as Sous Vide gained popularity) and then got two of the ANOVA Sous Vide units, a friend got one and we BOTH had trouble with them and with what they maniacallhy call Customer Service. I now have two Joules and very happy. I finally threw my last anova product away. Get the Avid Armor unit. Anovas are the Monday builds.

yes, I addressed this in the pinned post above. Thanks!
Would seal-only function on Avid Armor be valuable to create smaller bags from larger ones to avoid bag waste?
yes
How does it do with a lot of liquid in the bag
chamber sealers are awesome with liquid in the bag, just do not let the vacuum cycle run too long or it can boil over..
I was told you can use food saver bags externally on both units...can you confirm?
They will work, but they need to be placed inside the chamber, otherwise you will get no seal.
@@soundspartan no that's not true. You can hang them outside with only the edge inside on the seal bar.
see the video I just released today!
I'm curious about the vacuum port. Do they work with the Foodsaver containers?
yes it will
What is the coupon code for the avid precision vacuum sealer?
do not have one.. this video is over a year and a half old..
Can i use food saver bags with the usv20?? Or do i have to purchase bags from Avid Armor??
you can, they are just more expensive. but if you are wanting to use up a supply you have you can use them for sure
can you vacuum bigger bags from the outside as with most other chamber vacuum sealers?
yes

if you had a vac master vo=p 215 can you adjust vacuum so lets say you want ti to vacuum salmon without crushing it
yes
so the anova vs the avid usv20 if you could could only keep onw which owould you keep and or pay for
avid amor
Can you marinate proteins in the anova
not sure what you mean.. usually when you marinate you are not cooking you are in the fridge...
Can you put in it a glass of liquid (say, orange juice) and obtain a concentrate? By evaporating the water part?
no.. that would destroy your vacuum pump...
You can with the anova. It's in the anova video for it. It's why there's a circular depression in the machine. I'm sure there are specific instructions to follow, but it looks like it can be done.
So you cant just seal with out running the whole cycle on the Anova?
I am sure you can...
Thanks i thing I'm going with the Anova
sounds good
Anova has the oil vacuum or does not used oil?
both of these are oil free pumps. Oil free pumps are usually cheaper and will not last as long as an oil based pump.
Have you tried the infuse setting on the anova? I tend to use garlic and vinegar as dipping sauce and would love this setting. Would the Avid Armor have the same results by using the marinate function?
infuse would be the same as marinate function
can other bags be used?
they can if you cut them to size. these chambers sealers are an odd size, so there are not many options for the ones that fit the chamber..
so between the anova and the avid armor usv20 which one Is quieter and which one would you recommend, and if I got the us30v is the only difference really just the size and bigger and longer seal bar, as in same sound for each of them?
the usv20
@@FireWaterCooking so the usv20 is quieter than the anova? and what is the difference between the 20 and the 30
do you have to always use huge bags??
no
