10:13 The magic head band was a power limiter (torture tool?) placed on Wukong to control him during the journey to the West. After the mission was accomplished, he was granted Buddahood and the head band was removed (according to the novel). This game happens after the story and we discovered that Wukong was tricked! The head band is never removed.
Some versions have it that he wasn't made a bodhisattva as he still couldn't completely control his violent impulses, but he was still rewarded by being made a war deity.

I don't I have ever seen player number go up and down as wildly as with this game. It went from a peak of almost 2.4 million down to "only" 250.000 in the evening and back up to 2.4 million.
The massive drop was probably just all the players taking a break, if it was just for the evening. (Assuming most are in the same time zone, that is)

If you look at the Steam reviews you can see well over 90% of them are from China.

I honestly feel really happy for the studio, they did a great job for their first massive game like this and what a story/backdrop for it to be set in
Yeah, finally an ape with a bruce lee-ish ape hayataaaa voice as a main char in yet another "the choosen one" story (ok ok, in that case its the "destined one" to "spice things up"). Truly a remarkable story already alone for being able to play an ape, them nowaday kiddos sure love it.

Took me a bit to get used to the voice, but now I think it's great. The monkey king is a goofy trickster, not some deep voiced hero.
Prod you might already know this, but you missed a boss fight near the big baby. I would say it's a decently important one too definitely worth going back and fighting.
This game is truly a breath of fresh air, I've waited so long to play a story based Chinese Mythology game with good combat since Jade Empire.

@Ashurman666 I've played and beaten Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, but I despise the weapon and armor system. I didn't like spending hours going through all my equipment, and that hasn't been my experience with Wukong. In my opinion, it's better than Wo long, and it's not the same.

@Ashurman666 That's a game, I have a hard time forgetting, with all the remakes and remasters we're getting of old games. I really wish we would've got something for Jade Empire, but it probably wouldn't make enough money. Jade Empire is one of all-time favorite games.

I'm several bosses deep into act 2 and I've loved every moment. Definitely a Game of the Year contender.
You should really try the mandarin dub of the game, the VA of Sun Wokong is great and his voice has the wittyness and playful high pitched tone that's standard for VA actors playing as Sun Wukong in movies. Sounds way more epic!

@@Rain1 its a lil weird, Chinese usually refers to the race/people of China, while mandarin refers to the language.

I started playing with English and as soon as Wukong started talking I had to swap out for the Mandarin dub. It just fits so much better! I can deal with subtitles.
For anyone wondering, Wukong has pretty much always sounded like this. Don't put your expectations of some deep voiced Kratos or anyone else with a deep voice on him. He was born a playful mischievous monkey

I can't believe this game is living up to the hype. But so far it seems to be amazing. I love the Immobilize spell. Such a good idea to let the players control the speed of combat. I don't have a Playstation or a strong enough PC, so I'll be looking forward to your playthrough ❤

The English sounds fine to me that because it's similar to how the dub a drama about journey to the west

Prod play the game in quality mode. There's a big gap beetwen the graphical difference (tbh PC has outrageously better graphics with RTX + DLSS)
The CN voice has a little bit more weight and feeling to it but the pitch is similar

I would probably play the CN dub just so the lips are synced to the audio. It's a pet peeve of mine when they don't match.
I preordered that game and don't regret it. it's a fantastic 10/10 for me (aside from some fps drops during 2 boss cutscenes, maybe it's my pc having a stroke). the world bulding, stunning sceneries, great music, the characters, the story, the surreal monster designs, smooth combat, no woke sweet baby inc bullsh*t propaganda. God, this game is an absolute banger!

Prod, a couple things: I’m not sure if you’re joking but Dragonball is based off Journey to the West. Not the other way around.
As for WuKong’s voice. It’s clear that the English voice is a copy of the Chinese voice. The Chinese voice is similarly high pitched because it’s traditionally based off of the Chinese opera version of the story. If you’ve never seen the movie Havoc in Heaven, it tells the story of everything that has happened up to this beginning point of the game.

the fact that this game not only exists, but it also met and exceeded everyone's expectations is crazy. Should be the standard in gaming companies, but they're too busy thinking about inclusivity and adding micro transactions to actually make the game good. We need more games like wukong. Nobody wants tons of shitty games every year, much rather have 1 good game every once in a while.

Because gameplay trailer has everything fully maxed out including RTX and scripted camera movements VS PS5 version of the game which has to do a lot of compromise in order to even run.
