I've said this elsewhere, I am really impressed that Ableton chose a sustainable path for Push 3 in a consumerist world where we are expected to throw away perfectly good technology all in the name of repeating revenue. What a win for everyone.

My Push 2 died like 2 years ago, and I've been in sorrow ever since. Finally managed to put together money for a new one around christmas, but used the money on presents for my family instead. I also had a feeling that since Push 2 was out of stock everywhere in Norway (and other places), something new were on the horizon. I AM SOOOOOOOO HYPED!! LET'S GOOOOO 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

It's cool, I have a Push 2 and I don't really feel like it's obsolete here at all. But there are a few features that I would definitely enjoy having, and the interface functionality is a major wishlist item, if I were still schlepping Push to live gigs that would save me a TON of time.

Great for performers, not so much for producers and people who primarily use arranging to create their tracks…
MPE looks great, as well as the jog wheel. Hopefully the jog wheel is on its own daughter board, instead of soldered directly to the main board… so it can easily be replaced, as we all know, rotary encoders will need replacing….

Considering that it took a long time after Push 2 came out
    It's a product that's a bit disappointing
A lot of users were looking forward to it
Unfortunately, there is no support for Arrange Mode
And If it's standalone, I think I need a touch screen and a bigger screen
One of the advantages of a standalone instrument is a workflow that increases concentration in limited situations,
but I think it's okay to increase the size of the screen for a more advanced midi work method
What's better than brother and rival Akai Force is that it's easier to carry around
And the advantage is that there's more RAM and you can use MPE and Ableton Stock instruments
    But aside from that
It's a lot more expensive than Akai Force that came out 4 years ago
Akai Force has been updating its OS for years
Implemented many features such as Arrange mode, disk streaming (not perfect because sample loading is excluded...),
    Ableton control, and links...
It has become a very different instrument from when it first appeared.
It's going to take some time
Wouldn't Push 3 Standalone go through a similar process?
The first product to support 3rd Party VST is
I think he'll be the winner of the next generation of standalone instruments

Ableton itself has more features than most people will ever use, and it sounds like even the Push 3 is still a few steps away from being fully standalone considering it lacks access to the arranger mode. Thanks for the amazing video! The unit looks utterly stunning, there’s no doubt about that… and I will probably upgrade to it from 2 (but I won’t bother with the SA version) my only point of confusion is why everyone is so concerned about being standalone. I don’t get what’s so bad about working with computers ! 😄 why are they fixating on stepping away from it? It’s a bloody great resource!
I also don’t get why are ableton selling themselves short when it comes to their music production presentation. They need to get it in them that people are proud of using it as a DAW and are getting great results from it. I’m wishing for more serious DAW features and an Ableton Push “Studio” next where the unit serves the production side not the performance side 🙏🏼

I'd say focus on the instrument is a pretty big one. When working on a laptop, there's all sorts of distractions. Also to some it feels good to step away from the computer after spending the whole working day on it. So basically you have a unit that is 100% dedicated to music making.

@@adrianstoger9352 that’s 100% true for some people bro and I agree with you that it does affect some of us. The barrier to entry at a "convenience" level is pretty high these days. I find every youtuber just increases my standards for my setup, which is their job I guess, but man it feels bad to look at my Launchpad and know that There is something better out there that costs 10x the cost I spent, and gives me 100x the convenience of my current setup. and is 1000x out of my budget.

    • @Allan-et5ig
      @Allan-et5ig ปีที่แล้ว

@@critical3337 I doubt anything is 100X more convenient, dude. Impossible.
Also, the hardware on this thing is older generation which to me seems a bit cynical.
I bet the Launchpad works pretty well? Not yet used one.

I'd love to see a more 'introductory' video on Ableton Push. I'm not really familiar with what it is and it's uses. Great video regardless. :)

Looks great Andrew, but for me it looks also like too much of a good thing. I'll stick to my Push 2 for now and keep my life 'simple'. Literally stick because the rubber coating is sticky AF. 😂

For what it's worth, I managed to "unstick" my Push 1 following this tutorial: th-cam.com/video/plAMk8nOXko/w-d-xo.html (with a different product though, not sure exactly which one. Acetone if I recall correctly)

Damn, this is just insane. I was planning on getting a Launchpad Pro to use as a standalone sequencer for my modular stuff, and owning a Push II I love the interface, but not the setup - this is incredible. I can’t afford one at the moment, but I’ll keep an eye out.

I literally got ride of my Akai MPC because of the lack of arrangement view... The MPE is somewhat tempting and the UI improvements are nice. But, overall I don't think, for me, that this is really a big enough improvement to tempt me from the Push 2.

  • @SvenFx-22

Great video. Thank you. After seeing this I think I’m sticking with my AKAI force, especially since all the current updates. It also works as a great controller and round robin w my ableton projects. Plus the fun factor for live performance. Idk. The push 3 looks cool but missing some features I’m used to on my force and at half the price. 😊

Kind of video I REALLY like. I good overview without and lot of DEEP DIVES. That comes later as you get more experience with the device. This was an excellent introduction for someone brand new to the PUSH eco-system. Wish more YTers would do these, initially, instead of showing 3 different ways to do the same thing and adding midi gear etc. One step at a time! Much obliged.

  • @pongtrometer
    @pongtrometer ปีที่แล้ว +1

GR8 overview Andrew... you should be able-to have an audio record buffer to go with the midi listening ,that you could set the recording time to say up to 40 mins like BESKPOKE DAW or 404 mk2......would have liked to have seen more Eurorack stuff setup being controlled by the Push 3.
    .....ps shaker game 100

I can’t find any battery specs, but the Intel CPU, 8GB DDR4 memory and 256GB NVMe m.2 SSD are worth £200 retail incl. tax. There must be a lot of secret sauce included that Ableton thinks they can charge £879 for the upgrade kit.
Or chutzpah: To state that “Using parts that aren’t from Ableton could be hazardous, and will void your warranty” will likely not stand up in court: PC manufacturers tried that decades OK and had to accept defeat.

My main gripe with the Push2 was that the 'Fixed Length' button just flashes on/off when it's engaged, so you can't tell at a glance if it's on or off while doing other things. And it's still the same 😢. Why couldn't they just turn it red when on like the Automate button below it
