👍 I watched this with my mom. Great show. When I watch it now, it's like she's still here, sitting on the couch behind me. We would discuss it during commercial breaks, and afterwards. This is actually one of the weakest episodes to me. But it was educational. Journalistic integrity wasn't much discussed at the time.
Always worth watching, but this is one of the best episodes of season 1. Shading and mixed motives in the characters are given greater prominence, rather than checking off topics for an after-school special. Not that there's anything (necessarily) wrong with that. . .
This was a groundbreaking series that put an emphasis on getting the background details right, leading to most recently House MD. It doesn't assume the viewer is an idiot.
Sure I commented before here.. Anyway, Liz got what Liz deserved. She was undermining the efforts of everyone else, where was her loyalty to her colleagues. The actress playing her is too 'smooth', like the Politician, another very smooth character. Felt for Rossi when he was bumped for her & when everyone thought it was just sour grapes when he tried raising concerns. Liz had such a 'halo'.
This one was a little weird. I found it hard to believe that such a veteran, dyed-in-the-wool reporter would be so confused about the most basic journalistic principle. Not that she would violate a principle, but that she seemed to not even know about it. Thanks again for posting these, I'm completely addicted!
I think those are actually electric typewriters. The only "manual" I ever saw on the show was in the episode Blackout. The guy that smokes the pipe and gets ribbed by Lou for not using a VDT was using a small portable manual.
Who says she's telling the truth that she only started a relationship with the guy in L.A. I bet she was involved with him back where they both came from. I'm not saying she's entirely evil but hey when you're in love you like to bend the truth to your own liking. Also, having a relationship with a high ranking official while keeping it secret, may boost your career because you get some scoops while feeding propaganda to the newspaper on most other occasions.
Wait till that "supervisor" shows her the door as well because of the fear some gossip sheet jumps on the news of their affair. Human nature is not as understandable as animal nature is. Especially on the ambition and quest for power, and riches to support their arrogance.
What was there to fall in love with? Well, clearly integrity and honesty of character are not priorities, so my perspective isn't hers. Still, sometimes I have seen this in real life, and I always have to remind myself that different people value different things, but it is an oddity and in opposition to my personal belief system. And for my life - people are always stating that they can't control it. Um...yes, you can. If you are attracted to someone, and it's an inappropriate relationship or or not the time for it - you chose to limit recreational activity, intimate activity. You cultivate friendships, partnerships, and mates. You don't fall into it without *repeated* interaction, and repetition of the deeper kinds of interactions or situations are nearly always your choice. Such a fallacy.
I haven't seen this show since I was a teenager in the 70's. It's as good as I remember it.
So many 70s and early 80s actors here. Memory lane ...
Andromeda strain, James Olsen
THIS WAS AN AWESOME EPISODE!!! NO WONDER WHY MY MOM LOVED THIS SHOW!

Is that Elisha Cook showing Rossi around the closed up nursing home @17:59?

I agree. I had many thoughts along this line, but you touched on the salient points.
NO cell phones, no computers, no ATMs and not even electric typewriters!
Bill B - and not that long ago...
And an actual dial phone without touchtone buttons!

In the first episode you can actually see a computer that Lou is touching while waiting.
If only the real life so-called "journalists" were held to such high standards, or any standards at all!
Blooper at 17:53 when Billie breaks her typewriter.

Looks like Rossi was worried that plane would mess up the shot.

Im almost a decade late...but i agree
what happened to Billy & Art relationship?
tgreer72 she turned him down
@@robribant6716 ahhh - I saw that..so it ended there. Thanks

I'm almost feeling sorry for her, really. She's made a mistake, a big one. Good episode!
The character as written was too naive to be believable. She didn't seem to realize how corrupt she was.
Wow, Larry Keen got rogered but good.
aaaaah the good ol' days ,when you can lie about anything and never be found out....curses on the internet.
🤣🤣🤣
I have a hard time envisioning Rozi wearing leathers and saying AAAAAAAAAAA!
Who is "Rozi"?

Robert Walden would've made a great Fonzie had Henry Winkler turned down the part.
Tank Stoner, I really can’t picture him in that part whatsoever.
Yeah, picture Rozzi saying AAAAAAAY!
Yeah, just doesn't work.
there's a refreshing lack of african americans on these shows...i love it!
Poor little boy, so eager to prove his hatred. Poor little boy.
Wait til' ol' Lance sees the 5th season of the show if he hasn't already with Rossi and Abby being in an inter-racial relationship.
Oh, you're a racist. YAWN.
Yeah what a pity some people are so upset over others whose skin is darker than their own. What a stupid thing to get hung up on. You're an idiot.
