Rossi's reaction at 13:56 is classic! You have to watch from the beginning of the scene and understand Rossi's sense of privacy to understand. I heard that he went on strike for a couple episodes bc he wanted a raise,,,well, he deserved it. Him and Lou Grant were the main draw! Everyone else was on top of their game also. But, the way the actor, Robert something, created Rossi was a tour de force, both in an obvious and subtle way. The latter as shown through the nuances in these kind of facial expressions.
Everybody's different. Back in the day, I found Rossi an annoying, selfish braggart, supposedly redeemed by his great reporting skills, but really awkward uncomfortable to watch. The girl was pretty shallow and uninteresting also, the way she was written. Compared to Mrs Pynchon, Billie looked like Gidget on meth. The only two beside Lou that are credible human beings were Animal and Donovan. Both were fun to watch, always.
I'm a little surprised that Lou was allowed to date a subordinate. Was that allowed back in the day? By the time I entered the workforce in the mid-2000s, the general rule was that coworkers of different rank are not allowed to date, ever.
A female like the secretary should stay home & be a Wife & Mom as in any Worldly situation she would be too nervous to assert herself. Don't just blame the males in the office. If you want to be taken seriously & you're a Woman, take a leaf out of Mrs P's book. Dress with Dignity & Authority & don't Flirt with the Men.
We have had several meetings about sexual harassment between teachers and students. One professor used to come on to all the good looking females in his class to see if he could get a taker. I find all of this business revolting. I never let men or woman touch me physically as an instructor. Glad the woman are standing up these days to this harassment business with the ME-Too movement. Guys like Bill Cosby need to be accountable.

I like how the issue of sexual aggression in the work place is presented in two different ways by two different women . Thats the reality of the world . People have different perspectives . No one wore horns and carried a pitchfork either . Refreshingly non- hamfisted .
The laws for sexual harassment in workplace are necessary to protect the weak or those afraid - it’s about abuse of power - let’s face it, some guys are just A-holes.
@@heidikickhouse- - Trust me, I work for a big corporation I know what disempowered feels like every day - I think it has changed a little, some woman have gone militant and make false accusations many of the “me too” people have proven to just be political feminists looking to upheave elections at the peril of some men - and I don’t see them getting indicted.
Mark Brown, you could occasionally even see nudity on television in the 1970s and 1980s. Janet Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” and the incredible overreaction by the public and the FCC now has created ridiculous level of censorship.
It changed. People do that. Also, it likely reflects the trend toward shorter hair which began in the early 1980s. Long hair went out of style. Rossi’s hair cut sure looks a helluva lot better, don’t you think?
It was a retro-40s look that was popular, and inspired by a lot of the British dramas that were on PBS at the time. I was in intermediate school when this episode aired, and the hairstyle looks very familiar to me.
The fact that things have swung back in the other direction is in direct relation to how bad it had gotten in the other direction . It had to happen . Hopefully equillibrium will be established and grown men and women act accordingly .
Great episode! Obviously it is still very timely. We can only hope we may be beginning to see another shift toward improving some of the norms in the workplace from the Weinstein/Trump fallout. IMO, Weinstein’s behavior being outed may have triggered, it but Trump’s blatant chauvinism and misogyny evident in his behavior, words and policies is the catalyst.Just as Westboro Baptist Church did for gay people, Trump may indirectly and ironically further the rights of women because he exemplifies and personifies the disgusting attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that women have to deal with so perfectly.
The thing is that not much has changed for the positive . Oh , awareness is up but so is the pushback . People do not like change . All the more reason never to all a bad idea to flourish . It should be checked immediately or with enough time your battle becomes an uphill battle .
No, Lou is the quintessential noble Everyman and mensch. He is never vindictive. His character is written so that his temper gets the better of him, but his essential nature causes him to ultimately right himself. He is a perfect model of the best of old school masculinity.

I love how they close the door of their glass office for privacy but leave the window open 😄😅😂
At 1:40 a guy smashes his truck into a Pinto. No explosion??? 🤣

He was also in All The Presidents Men, wbich was probably the inspiration for this show (newspaper procedural show)
Robert Walden. I saw him on old game shows and he is the only reason I am watching this.
Wish the episode was longer so we could see Billie tear into Lloyd.

It was.
28:03. Like high school kids peering through the womens' lockerroom window Nuff said.
Lou is inappropriately dating his subordinate. Out of line.

Airdate Sept. 29th, 1980.
I missed my calling.
A reminder that in 1980 people still thought that ulcers were caused by stress :)
They were not too far off ... ulcers can be made worse by stress but then when does stress never make things worse
Stress weakens the body. The weakest parts of the body feel the impact 1st and worst.
Mrs. Pynchon......
At about 35:38...why is Charlie so hesitant to run this story? What is he hiding?
It seems like he changed into another character.
Was surprised to hear the word orgasm lol

Hard for me to watch this episode with Lynn Carlin because all I see is Sara on The Waltons, who marries the sheriff, Ep Bridges.
Mista Graahhhhnt!
What's this new hairstyle of Billie's!?!

To Inkyguy: Any evidence, or just more typical liberal BS?
Was Lou being vindictive toward Billie at the end?
No. He sent Billie because he knew she would put the guy in his place.

My second wife dressed way too sexy, caused me a lot of problems which became legal problems. Thank God for divorce court.
