Good for Lee's... He knows California will not let you run a business there and he is leaving just like the rest. You can't run a business in Demarcate run Cities or States.
Damn I used to go to Lee’s to get hot steamed buns when I worked in the FiDi, it was one of the reasonably priced establishments. Sad to hear the city didn’t really help a long time small business.
Seeing business shut down in cities San Francisco instills hope. Cities like San Francisco have so much hate and division. San Francisco should fail not succeed. Resist hate.
I was born and raised in SF and always go into Lee In the morning when i was commutting to SF for Middle School back in 2002-04 I usually get Dim Sum at 7 AM everyday. This blows but thank you for great business
The length of the shutdown was driven by political and social engineering motives. The general population was accessing never-before available information, about virus and disease to economic and government operations. In a very real sense, the pandemic was a powerful tool in reigning back the information grid, to allow censorship, and to manipulate. But the side effects and long term damage that would result were vastly underestimated. People were laid off, homeless grew exponentially, drug use went through the roof, fentanyl was introduced and became the real pandemic. Businesses collapsed, once safe neighborhoods became dangerous, and retraction of society's good values became prevalent. Who drove the initial strategy of control-through-panic? What organizations profited? This small chain of successful restaurants is one of the hundreds of casualties. Individual loss is incalculable. And the Doom Loop? We haven''t gotten close to the bottom yet.
Shopping in downtown San Francisco can be fun. Walking while trying not to step in human excrement, dodging muggers, trying to find a business that’s actually open, and paying exorbitant prices, can all be a fun activity if you just look at it in the right way.
I used to love SF. It was my long weekend trip from SoCal. A real walking city. But the last few trips, I just find it depressing. I really don't see people on the streets, or shops that are bumping. There was a buzz in the city.
Lee Quan is a legend and I thank him for all he’s done for the city. The mayor should have realized her exact statement about being cost prohibitive to businesses about 20 years ago like everyone else in the world.
I grew up in the Bay Area. To imagine downtown SF empty would have been impossible, still hard. To see Embarcadero Center with no people after the Springsteen and concert heyday. We're about to start losing major cities, can you believe it? Meanwhile $6K to rent a studio, this will not hold
And the people will keep voting for the politicians that are responsible for the conditions that make people not want to go there. The disconnect is unbelievable.
I was in Miami this week and didn’t see a single business closed. I stayed in Brickell, the mall was packed everyday. It’s funny how shopping habits didn’t change there. Might be because they have actually leadership in office. Just a thought 💭
That's always tough news to hear, especially for a place that's been around for such a significant amount of time. Lee's Deli must have been a staple in the SF community, offering comfort and a sense of home through its food for so many years. It's a reminder of how important local businesses are to the fabric of our communities. They offer more than just services; they provide spaces where memories are made, and connections are formed. Here's to hoping that the legacy of Lee's Deli lives on in the hearts of those who loved it, and that the community finds new ways to come together and support one another.
There are way better deli's in the city, but its so sad to hear almost on a daily basis, that so many businesses are closing up or leaving the city. Same thing is happening in Oakland.
@@inboxnews well I was born and raised in the City, but left years ago. I went back for a visit in 2015, and didn't even recognize the place. I just went to the many favorite restaurants I use to eat at, but spent most of my time in the wine country, and down at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. I'm sure the city is even worse now in 2024 than on my last visit in 2015. And although Oakland was always a tough place, it's much worse now.
Thousands of Workers are not coming to office buildings. Employers are permitting remote work in what is know as hybrid. As Lee’s Deli said, the workers who go back are there only 3 days per week. The SF Mayor may suck, the other postings are just noise; it’s like complaining that Black people are taking their Jobs (it’s not based on reality). In upstate NY, your normal is the pre-covid normal. In cities, workers are not returning to offices, and the commercial office building owners are in deep financial trouble, tricking down to small businesses like deli’s that rely on lots of foot traffic. It’s like sewing machines being replaced by sewing done by others overseas for $2/day; sewing isn’t obsolete, it’s that nobody makes their own clothing anymore like less people coming to cities. Mr. Lee says if he reopens, it’s would in where people LIVE, not where they work which is now mostly at home for SF tech and services heavy.
That’s gotta be tough. The guy is obviously a nice man who loves his business. It’s a shame what the pandemic has done to so many hardworking people. I hope he recovers.
As a fellow Californian who has never voted for progressive politicians or policies I say, you get what you pay for. Enjoy the fruits of your intelligence.
unreal, the pos sf mayor's younger sister died of a drug overdose in 2006 and her brother is serving a 44 year sentence for manslaughter/armed robbery. Instead of focusing on helping local business, she is too busy continously asking the Governor's office for clemency for her brother. Breed has stated that her brother's early release from prison would be "what’s best for both her brother and society overall. A total dillusional waste.
Breed is full of the stuff all over the side walks, now California raises the minimum wage, how can businesses survive. People cannot afford to live in SF now they have to pay a lot more for a simple hamburger. My prediction, people will bring their lunch to work.
Bravo for Mr. Lee for staying open so long. His struggles are exactly the problems facing small businesses in SF, and the city government ignored and let this happen all across the city. Mayor Bree just doesn’t get it and her administration only steps up when big events with heavy media coverage are present. Two examples: World Economic Forum and the recent Chinese New Year Parade and street festivals.
One would think fetanyl addicts are Breed's and the supervisors' voting base given that there are more of them on the sidewalks of Market St than employed people and business owners on their way to work.
Sad that’s game over for another SF institution. Last week I visited and spoke with the owner of another SF institution restaurant may close shop when her lease is up next year for the same reasons.
The pandemic killed working in the office. Most companies moved out of state and let their employees work remote. The ones that stayed only have their employees in the office 2 or 3 times a week. That is a huge amount of foot traffic that left. Also, most of these food places are only open during lunch or maybe breakfast.
Because they stayed locked down longer, and resisted putting kids back in school. Instead of actually doing work and trying to teach kids some stuff, the school board concerned itself with re-naming half the schools in the district.
Sad. Almost like the old Red's, a low cost meal for the working man, now is gone. There are no workers in SF anymore, and there sure aren't any men left there.
Yeah shopping patterns have changed Breed. Its called people not wanting to get robbed or having to step over a pile of crap.

It's not covid, it's the crumbling structure known as San Francisco.
I loved going here when I worked in the financial district for many years. This place got me through two colleges. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fentanyl was a problem long before Covid.
But they got Biden, so great. right?
Shopping in downtown San Francisco can be fun. Walking while trying not to step in human excrement, dodging muggers, trying to find a business that’s actually open, and paying exorbitant prices, can all be a fun activity if you just look at it in the right way.
From an outsider who is one of many that warned you Left Coast.
You get and deserve what you asked for.
Lee needs to come to Tampa, FL we’re more business friendly, we have foot traffic, and we need some decent dim sum!
Its called people not wanting to get robbed or having to step over a pile of crap.
Who would want to do business in a city where crime is legal?
1:34 typical mayor PR bs 🤦♂️
All 40 of them? - Your governor is much more effective than I had ever imagined - wow! The good news is - I hear the French Laundry is still open.
San Francisco, a city where it can turn into a complete 5hat hole but still people pay 4000/month for a doghouse.
I worked downtown SF for over 20 years. Lee's fed me breakfast, lunch and dinner on a regular basis.
They will be missed! 🙏
how much money could be saved and invested over 20 years preparing food at home.
@@UncleDavesKitchen I'm retired. It's ok. 🙏💯
I used to love SF. It was my long weekend trip from SoCal. A real walking city. But the last few trips, I just find it depressing. I really don't see people on the streets, or shops that are bumping. There was a buzz in the city.
Portland and Seattle are both doing excellent job of emulating San Francisco and Oakland.
Lee Quan is a legend and I thank him for all he’s done for the city.
The mayor should have realized her exact statement about being cost prohibitive to businesses about 20 years ago like everyone else in the world.
She wasn't the mayor 20 years ago.
@@RajDeelish no shit. That’s why she should have better plans in action before she ever was in place as mayor of San Francisco which she didn’t
Congratulations to the politicians of California, job well done
San Francisco governance is a lesson in what not to do
ALL BY DESIGN
SF needs a 21st-century Harry Callahan to come in and straighten things out!
And don’t forget SF is now crime invested..I was last there in 2016 and will never go back ..
Change the way you VOTE 🎈🎈🎈
Blockchain or in person only🇺🇸
Wow I used to go there for lunch at least once a week.. how times have changed
Dang shame make Breed’s behind leave office!
So why are other cities fine? maybe San Fran policies are fucked up
The city needs to vote for a better city council and mayor.
But will they? They have screwed it up time and time again.
Our wonderful city is going down, thank you mayor!
It’s an institution as ubiquitous as Starbucks in the Financial District. More of them there than McDs.
Another U.S city rotted to its core turned into a wasteland. It doesn’t take long and comeback takes generations. So sad.
There are way better deli's in the city, but its so sad to hear almost on a daily basis, that so many businesses are closing up or leaving the city. Same thing is happening in Oakland.
Oakland is completely understandable. The crime there is insane.
If you are smart, you will leave San Francisco. Government is terrible.
We had Covid in upstate NY and yet, businesses are up and running now. Almost back to normal. Why is SF having so much trouble?
Another one bites the dust in good ol' San Franshitsco.
That’s gotta be tough. The guy is obviously a nice man who loves his business. It’s a shame what the pandemic has done to so many hardworking people. I hope he recovers.
It isn’t the pandemic it is the disease of liberalism.
Did 'the pandemic' do this to Miami?
Well at least she can smile about it. She forgot to mention the out of control crime wave.
Terribly sad. Always a good and economical place to eat.
The truth is their quality was questionable. Every time I’ve been it’s been mid. It’s alright food but nothing to be missed.
Close it all, close it all, close it all
Democratic communism they are laid and corruption
Macys is closing as well. This city is falling by the minute and the people in charge don’t give a damn. 😢
You want to mess thing up?... Put a democrap in charge.
It will never be the same 😢 The good old days are over 😢
The only thing missing are the tumbleweeds that will inevitably start rolling down the street.
"Criminals Strong!" ...that's the motto of San Francisco's politicians.
Ten years from now, we'll still keep blaming COVID. I'm sure there's more to it they're not mentioning.
Breed is a total joke. We need to do this we need to do that. And this man is out of business ……I didn’t vote for her
Yay! SF's master plan is working!!!
No cars,no small businesses,no landlords !!
Governors minnuim wage increase got another victim
Sad that’s game over for another SF institution.
Last week I visited and spoke with the owner of another SF institution restaurant may close shop when her lease is up next year for the same reasons.
Why do businesses in SF keep blaming the pandemic (today)when other cities in other states bounced back a couple of years ago?
They don't have the balls to blame the delusional mayor
The pandemic killed working in the office. Most companies moved out of state and let their employees work remote. The ones that stayed only have their employees in the office 2 or 3 times a week. That is a huge amount of foot traffic that left. Also, most of these food places are only open during lunch or maybe breakfast.
What cities….honestly, 🇺🇸
@@saythankyou111Look at Texas, Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Because they stayed locked down longer, and resisted putting kids back in school. Instead of actually doing work and trying to teach kids some stuff, the school board concerned itself with re-naming half the schools in the district.
I can understand why business is leaving. I can’t understand why they would stay.
How sad
San Francisco voters need to stay there. Do not contaminate the rest of the country. Plus you need the pay the bill for your votes.
Sad. Almost like the old Red's, a low cost meal for the working man, now is gone. There are no workers in SF anymore, and there sure aren't any men left there.
What a waste of property ? Bring in National guards and post in places of downtown SF .
