I probably should’ve sued you but watching you fail is equally satisfying. I nor ANY of my family have shopped at Macy’s since 1994. I’ve made sure of it. Not all chains are going downhill. Some regional or semi regional family-owned chains like Dillard’s, Boscov’s, Von Maur, and Scheels are actually doing quite well
Online shopping is killing the malls. Young people want minimalistic surroundings and not surpluses stuff. Many people don't go to malls for movies... socializing... shopping as all done online. Today's generation lock themselves in their rooms to shop...skype to meet others... watch movies and enjoy cyber sex so no need to go to malls or many other public places.
Customers ordering merchandise through online has decreased foot traffic into the stores creating less contact with the sales associates, less interaction, and eliminating sales positions. A huge amount of merchandise ordered online gets returned back to the store requiring the customers to obtain a sales profesional assistance. The retail thefts have also contributed to loss of profit.
Years ago, macys used to be a way nicer store. After they consolidated regional nameplates into the fold, the brand has cheapened itself over the last 20 years. I do miss stores like Lord and Taylor and Parisian, where you could find things that everyone e didn’t wear.
How about giving some paycuts to the higher ups at Macys instead? They're the ones running the show, should they not be held accountable for running the business poorly?
Refresh the stores. Make the dressing rooms nicer. The last Macys I went in looked "Okay" but the dressing rooms looked terrible. If you want people coming into the stores then give them a reason. Have style consultants or salespeople who understand fashion and clothing. They could make suggestions and help upsell, or right sell. Nothing is more frustrating than buying something online only to find out it does not flatter you and is difficult to return. Maybe if something is not in your size that day a consultant could order it and schedule a time to come back and try other items. Make the store an experience.
Here in Australia, all supermarkets and chain of stores are now self serve at the payout. People have lost their jobs. Shopping strips in our local suburbs are now necessity stores. Everyone goes to the shopping malls
Here’s the thing, for my family and I and I am sure most of America, the dilemma is buy clothes in the mall including Macys or go and enjoy a meal at Outback or something, and then go the mall just to look around and maybe get a cookie or something as a treat. But can’t do both lol 😂.

I just came back from Shanghai and omg the malls there are PACKED...like black friday full. And everyone was carrying bags of merchandise from every store. It seems like the middle class was thriving there. Which makes me realize that here in the USA the class divide is too big, which makes macy's (a middle class store) not relevant any more because America is now a country that has the super rich and the super poor...with no in between. This explains why now there are more chanels and louis vuittons in malls but no more sears and macys. This is just a guess
Instead of closing they can lower prices. So they can sell something its better than nothing. People nowadays care about gas and food and bills not about brands. Expensive stores should come down on a ground and make some changes
The problem isn’t all online shopping and has a lot to do with the lack of stock and the type of merchandise in their stores. Have you been in a Macy’s in the last couple of years? It’s nothing but junk and a small selection of Polo. The Backstage concept is totally ghetto.
The customer service is really bad. Most store staff act as if you are bothering them when you have a question and the checkout lines are so long. Macys also failed to innovate and offer buy online pick up in store. Plus the asssortment of clothing and shoes is abysmal.
Going to a mall is like having a death wish. When cops need to be present, you know not to go there. Fights, store employees with guns, make it just dumb to shop there. Macy's is crazy overpriced and the only ones that get good deals are the shoplifters.
Yeah, us people in the Middle and lower income Do Not have the extra cash to pay high prices. 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and have already maxed out their credit cards. Of course, people would love to be able to buy quality items but have to settle for less.
Macy should close their store in Stone Briar Mall in Frisco Tx. They have worst customer service and clutter all over. None of the items have price tag. No one there to tell you the price. Worst store ever.
I'm 55 and have never bought a single thing from a Macy's in my life. I did buy a car stereo from a JCPenney about 35 years ago, HA. Bought maybe 6 things from a Sears. No wonder they're going under. its all my fault.
American malls need shoppers to feel safe. With shoplifting and masses no one feels safe. Only criminals are having a good fun life in America lol. Malls are packed in every country except America. Stop voting liberal it’s a vote for criminals.
I only go to Malls in the Philippines when I go there because they have everything for everybody. These malls in America are way too overpriced, outdated mostly, and can get stuff cheaper and faster by ordering it online.
Customers don't ever realize that they are the makers of their own demise. People stopped shopping small local shops because big chains offered everything they wanted in one place with better prices. So small local shops were forced to close and with less competition big department stores eventually raise prices and offer even worse service. Now people have abandoned big department stores in favor of Amazon and other eCommerce for the luxury of lower prices, free shipping and free returns figuring they don't need to physically interact with a product because if it isn't what they expected or doesn't fit they will just send it back. Once the eCommerce options have put all the department stores out of business what do you think will happen to prices and all that free shipping? Yep say bye bye.
"Just needs to be reimagined" Are they this oblivious/stupid to the inflation of everything, or do retailers truly believe people are hoarding tons of money?

Young people want minimalistic surroundings and not surpluses stuff.
Many people don't go to malls for movies... socializing... shopping as all done online. Today's generation lock themselves in their rooms to shop...skype to meet others... watch movies and enjoy cyber sex so no need to go to malls or many other public places.
Just so you know, nobody uses Skype anymore lol.
Customers ordering merchandise through online has decreased foot traffic into the stores creating less contact with the sales associates, less interaction, and eliminating sales positions. A huge amount of merchandise ordered online gets returned back to the store requiring the customers to obtain a sales profesional assistance.
The retail thefts have also contributed to loss of profit.
if they are struggling then why are they planning to open 15 bloomingdales
Love shopping there for towels that be on clearance and/or sale.
Our local mall is less busy, but no big chain stores in it have closed... yet.
Fewer shoppers go to Macy's..We need more eletronic stores tho..
Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Adding Toys R Us didnt help after all, and we;'re losing that again ;_;
Putting an already bankrupt store into another store was supposed to somehow… help?
@@Concepcion30 It's the only time I've ever stepped into a Macy's without family. It also introduced me to their Backstage store which has neat no-brand toys
Don’t go in the mall but I go to Macys all the time. One of few that is actually worth shopping at
Macy is actually my favorite store. Just don’t close the stores in northern Connecticut. I usually order online from Macy.
Macy's has low quality clothes and bedding fabric is mainly polyester. The only thing I purchase is Shiseido. It's the best facial product line on the market.
Nailed it.
You're spot on. It's the demographics.
In 1981, people said they hated the "new" economy, but it's almost ten times worse today.
Once online shopping became populars malls are deads
Instead of closing they can lower prices. So they can sell something its better than nothing. People nowadays care about gas and food and bills not about brands. Expensive stores should come down on a ground and make some changes
I think online shopping is the big thing that destroys non-online malls, period. 💣
Extremely interesting and informative.
The problem isn’t all online shopping and has a lot to do with the lack of stock and the type of merchandise in their stores. Have you been in a Macy’s in the last couple of years? It’s nothing but junk and a small selection of Polo. The Backstage concept is totally ghetto.
The Backstage is horrible.
You tend to see only the negative side of things
Bring back Robinsons May! 😄
Middle class is being economically squeezed out so retailers appealing to that level are hurting.
I worked there.
Yeah, us people in the Middle and lower income Do Not have the extra cash to pay high prices. 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and have already maxed out their credit cards. Of course, people would love to be able to buy quality items but have to settle for less.
Its because of high inflation. People are concentrating on rent, food, gas, utilities.
Malls need way more entertainment. They need more restaurants, and to be way more family friendly.
I live in South Florida. What you describe is what the malls have.
American malls need shoppers to feel safe. With shoplifting and masses no one feels safe. Only criminals are having a good fun life in America lol. Malls are packed in every country except America. Stop voting liberal it’s a vote for criminals.
It was a long time coming....
Macy's Scottsdale needs to be revamped and upgraded.
I hope they dont close the locations on long Island NY or the big one in NYC
America slowly turning into a wasteland.
Now toys r us is really dissapering
Shop at Goodwill....no sales tax. Rewards programs are mindless games which are worth nothing.😮
Our Florida locations have sales tax. I know because I shop there.
Not to mention even Goodwill is getting more expensive.
@@wturner777so true! I can find cheaper jeans at Walmart that are brand new than at Goodwill.
Amazon killed Macy's. Why go anywhere else? Found exactly what I needed last week on Amazon - license plate screws that actually FIT. Haha
I only go to the mall when my kid's need clothes 😊
This news would’ve made my mom sad
Oh noo maybe you shouldn't tell her. I'm a kid and I got upset when I heard these news 😬😉
Oooooweee gonna have some nice sales hopefully:)))))))))😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Don't have extra money
Been years since I bought anything at Macy's.
"Just needs to be reimagined" Are they this oblivious/stupid to the inflation of everything, or do retailers truly believe people are hoarding tons of money?
Amazon literally took the property of showcase cinemas
Well I'll tell you what Macy's clearance sales is a scam I put in my order last week they took my money off my card and I never got my stuff man I was pissed
Temu and Amazon destroying it!
