Loved these 3 videos showing this fence going up. I've picked up a good few tips from them things I'd over looked. I'm about to do a dividing fence between my self and neighbour. I'll aim for March/April. Thanks again.
I’ve just found your videos on your fabulous fence and wanted to say thank you so much. I’m looking to do one in my garden to keep our hens off our veg patch so your guidance is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again.
Watched these videos intensely this last couple of weeks as I am doing a 30 foot picket fence . Enjoyed them a lot . How does the paint you used stand up after these last number of years , I would love to know as I am a bit doubtful about the quality of some of the fence paints . Thanks in advance .
Looking to do a similar job after stripping a conifer hedge out. Good solid timber and building work. What a charming family you have, does the heart good to see dad working away, my great granddaughter is about the same age and she'd be covered in paint!!
I've just moved into a house and am looking at doing a similar fence for a veg garden. I've been a bit daunted about how to go about it so this video is great for me. interested to see how you put the initial posts in place? keep up the good work.
Loved your little project and am about to do something similar. How did you get a good fixing on the corner with the bend with regards to the rails? I can’t really see what you did - any chance you could show any pictures?
My first fence 110m long. I used a similar method to make all the paling level. Almost finished I figured out all you have to do is clamp a rail sideways along the bottom and lay each paling on it and screw it in
This is one of the most detailed videos I've seen on building a picket fence. I'm using it as a guide for building my picket fence. Off topic; do you have any thoughts on the Canon m50 camera? I was all set to buy an 80d, then I came across the m50. I mostly shoot events, and it would be a backup camera to my 5dmk3. But I also want to start making videos for TH-cam. Many thanks.
Not familiar with the m series. I lug around dslr,s most of the time. If it was me and I needed a small back up camera it would be all about low light performance. I may switch out our video to a smaller camera one day but may end up going for the 6dmk2 as that’s a pretty good all rounder, (no 4K)
Thanks for your reply. If you get a chance take a look at a TH-cam review of that Canon m50. For now I'm filming myself as I construct a picket fence at my house. Your videos are very helpful. If I put my video on TH-cam I'll be sure to say that your videos were helpful to me.
Great video thank you. So how did you manage to ensure that there was even spacing on the last picket or two, given you didn’t calculate this prior? You just went on the spacing that looked good. I would be worried there may not be enough space to install the last picket, or you would need to leave a bigger than usual gap.
My run ended up terminating in to a wall one end a hedge the other so was happy to take the gamble. Wit deck spindles or a smaller run of fencing it is worth calculating.
So I have tried to follow this tutorial and have made a mess of one the posts. It sits out more than the other 5 making the rail not fit. Other than pulling it out can I use shims to pack or cut into the post 😅
That must have taken a while to do. Nail gun would have been so much quicker. Not everyone has a nail gun hanging around though right. Nice looking job though 👍
suggest putting the screws in from the back side to hide the heads, rather then just relying on paint. Investing in a Wagner( or similar product ) / borrowing one is so much faster an easier then painting everything by hand, which takes forever to do.
Hi there, planning to build a similar fence next week. One question, what dimensions where the pickets, and did you buy them specifically as cut to size pickets or did you cut them down and shape them yourself? Cheers, Rob
They were 900mm long and 75mm wide. Bought mine as a bulk pack on eBay from a timber merchant. Roughly £1 a piece for the planed ones. Could make them but these are pressure treated after being cut to shape so hopefully more durable.

Lovely job mate. Doing mine soon will follow your steps. 👍
The universal measurement of a “Width of a spirit level” - we have all been there!

Nice job although I would have run in a 4x1 gravel board underneath, just individual preference.

Did you buy the pickets?
Wasnt the painted side suppose to be to the inside? 😁 thanks for the videos...
Looking good :)
Just wondering, what's your day job?
Maybe you could do a Q&A in the near future?
I am a photographer by day, that's when I'm not distracted by DIY! Q and A has been requested before actually, maybe next week if we get time. 😀
good job,looks great
Great tips
Thanks

Great video bud,so you have a materials lost ie the timber you used as I am looking at doin something very similar..
Keep up the Good work.

Depends how much. Perhaps just notch the rail at that point to sit post on a bit.
@@TheRestorationCouple thanks for your reply 😁 I got it fixed now by using some old wood cutting it to the size of the rail and shimming it out 👍
Very helpful.

Hi! What brand/colour of wood preserver were you using here? All the best! :)
Thanks bro
Pickets should be attached from the back for esthetics
Like the look (colour) of your fencing. Are the pickets from stock from the timber yard? What make is your wax jacket you wear in this video?
Yes they were ordered rather than made myself. It’s a Barbour jacket. 👍
good job on ur fence ..

iya really enjoy your videos
😉👍
Pickets are too far apart IMO, also would have looked far better nailing them
