The future is not guaranteed, who knows if I will get there, right? I am not happy with I am doing now, even at the point to get a promotion at a the management level and increase my income by 20%. I feel that I am just following the norm at the cost of my happiness. I know that a solid plan must be in place before doing this. Feel free to advise.

This my definition of a digital nomad. A nomad is someone who carries his or her home to other places, who is highly mobile, even across borders, focused on the enjoyment of life without social or employment restrictions or without being subjected to political or national boundaries. Someone is highly open minded about the world, other cultures and ways of life. Digital is a computing term, is a mathematical term, as in digital banking, which implies having routine access to money, steady cashflow, lots of megabytes, telecommuting, being business oriented, high self motivation, focused on success through technology and business savvy or savoir faire, and on practicing environmentally responsible behaviors and lifestyles.
Hey Palle and Kristin, I already told Kristin that, at almost 70 years old, I am decided to move around the world, starting early next year, when winter is fading and spring is springing up almost everywhere. Family responsibilities have kept me from going after this long-held dream, but it is never too late. In addition, thank God, and thanks to my strict regimen of fitness, I am healthier than most young adults who are 24 years or a little older. Kristin, I really find you so interesting, so I look forward to connecting with you some time in the near future. I would love to listen to your sage advice on how to make the happiest journeys through this truly beautiful planet. God bless, protect us all.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I strive to provide detailed and honest information in my content, and I'm glad that it resonates with you. Happy travels! 🌟🌍
I always took my vacations to travel, and I always kept my base. I travelled from age 20 to 73, and I worked from 7-70, I retired in 2001 , and again at 2012. I am contented to do virtual travel, continue my journals since age 15 to the present 79th year. I am so happy this Scamdemic and poison jaband masks were not needed, or I would have stayed home in the USA, but had to leave Chicago. Earthquakes were the deal breakers for Acapulco, and Singapore was too expensive.

I’m 54 and just started my journey. Split from longtime gf and decided to hit the road. No ex wife’s, no children, no debt so why not? So far only Croatia, but Lisbon next followed by Istanbul. Airbnb so far, but that might change. Good luck out there everyone. Dominic
Kristin, I am loving this video. All of it, but especially Palle's story about connecting people and becoming friends with someone through Facebook. That is my love language. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm 50 and thinking about doing this. Still trying to research and figure a few things out, but thank you for this video. Very inspirational and good to know I'm not too old to embark on this lifestyle. Great video as most are with people a lot younger than us older peeps. ;)
Kristin - So glad I found your YT channel. I’ve dreamed of being a digital nomad for 25 years and other than launching a tax blog during a 6-month visit to Cambodia, I have failed spectacularly. Your channel has a lot of topics that should be of great inspiration for me. (At 67, I’m planning to go back to Cambodia next year and then to Taiwan.) Thank you!

You haven't failed. You can still do it. I'm 48 years old. I was soo close until my Instagram platform got hacked for ransom in April. I still haven't got my account back but I will never give up.💛💛💛
@@lvngitcouture Thanks. I'm working on it. Just spent December in Cambodia on a vacation emote work schedule, but 10 days of covid cut my work time down. Hope to make it into an annual 3-5 month rotation this year. 👍
This is just the third of your videos I’ve seen Kristin and I really like your style of presenting and asking questions. It’s very relaxed and real. I’m only halfway through this one, and I’m curious what happened to the person he fathered the kids with? She’s only mentioned at the beginning as one of the excess “things” he left behind, so I naturally felt kind of sorry for her. But maybe nomading’s not her cup of tea?
Hoorah. Life begins at 50 ! It's never too late for new beginnings. Of course there's always things you need to adjust, but where there's a will there's a way.
I'm going to be 71 in another month so this was a great video to watch. I'm checking out information on Spain now for relocation. Eastern Europe seems scary to me, but I'm tempted by Georgia.
Caucasus Georgia is a tax haven for expatriates with good enough banking options, and IZMIR (ADB) airport is a four hours road trip from Sabiha Gokcen SAW Airport, which is a good enough hub for the region of West Asia? EXCELLENT QUALITY HEALTH care services are suited to expatriates in Turkey?
Turn 60 this year and so desperately want to go. Pandemic has put a hold on any travel. Money and leaving kids and grand kid is the hardest part. Also live with my oldest daughter and Grand Daughter and she needs to be able to afford to live on her own too. Getting regular work, has also been a challenge.

I started following Kristen a couple weeks ago and have been really inspired. My children are finishing grad school and I feel this is a great time for me to travel and live abroad. In my 50s I often feel I am too old, what will I do for work? This video is inspiring and reaffirms that it’s not too late to figure it out. Hoping to be a badass nomad one day soon.
That's awesome to hear, Jose! Age is just a number, and it's never too late to embark on new adventures. Your journey as a badass nomad awaits, and there's a whole world out there to explore. Best of luck on your exciting future travels! 🌍✈️👍
Amazing, inspiring :-) I am from a little country in Central Europe and after 21 years in the same company I left my safety job and I want to enjoy every day with traveling, learning, and a new experience. So I´m in Hawai´i now. I just have some trouble with my job, I still don´t know what can I do. :-( But it´s not a barrier, it´s just a period of life and I believe I am able to bring some added value with my knowledge :-) Thank you for inspiration again. Life is beautiful :-)
So great to hear that, Helena! Which country are you from and what line of work are you in now? I'm happy to help in any way I can! Check out www.digitalnomadbootcamp.com for more resources
@@TravelingwithKristin Thank you, Kristin. I am from Europe from Slovakia, but I choose Hawai ´i for my next life because I am a summer girl :-) But the situation here is really difficult - with Covid and also with working visa restrictions. Therefore I started to think about other possibilieties, other islands, other online jobs. I have a sabbatical now, but I am a banker - I worked in that area for 21 years. But I have a lot of experience with projects and processes design, change management, crisis management. I have experience in the human resources area also - with hiring, onboarding, training and development. Therefore I am thinking about my own online business as a consultant, coach... I created an account on your website, and I want to learn from your experience as much as possible. I am open to all interesting opportunities, so I hope we can be in touch. You are a really inspiring person, and I will be glad to follow your steps.
Fascinating discussion. I fit into the home-base-but-love-to-travel category, but it was good to hear these perspectives. An attractive personality must go a long way, though, in making this a success, and I imagine that less magnetic types could find themselves with neither friends nor funds in short order. There's an art to it, no doubt. That's why so many of us opt for the secure and safe job, the more ostensibly predictable, despite the regrets.

I'm 71 and taking a break from digital nomad. I have been in this mode for 10 years...and the itch is attacking. This past year I focused on getting my health to the "it's great" stage so I could handle the rigors of travel. As soon as these covid limitatioins are lifted, I'm back on the road. I've thought of doing a podcast, or vlog...or blog, but then tell myself..."who wants to hear from you? you're just old now'. :(
I know right! Thanks for tuning in! Here's another video I did that talks about being a digital nomad living in Thailand: th-cam.com/video/JmGP1_Vn3cc/w-d-xo.html
I just started my digital nomad life. Was basically forced into it because I was just stuck in the US being able to work remotely but not making nearly enough to live. That said, what I don't hear any of these videos ever mention is this lifestyle can be extremely lonely and unless your retirement age or you have a lot of money to invest then the visa is a huge issue. Not being able to stay most countries for more than 3 months is exhausting and stressful and combined with being lonely it can break you
just started looking into this and hits upon two things that of interes. i am a bit older (42) plus i want to keep my home in Bristol UK as a base. Thank you. am going to enjoy going through these videos

Ya know Vampire Kristin, I have a few places on my list, but no where your gusto to try alot of other places. Thanks to your videos showing me the good and bad of countries I have not been.
Like your video. I have traveled to some 40 countries. I enjoyed each one in their own way they all make you grateful for being able to visit. I am now 82 and wonder if there are videos similar to yours that address people over 80 that are in still serviceable shape but everyone over 80 has a little slower reaction time to things. The thing that I disliked about traveling single when I was younger was meeting people and having good conversations with them. 40 years ago English was not as wide spoken in Asia or Latin America. I did learn to speak Australian which is a laugh in itself. The advice you have given people about traveling slow is right on. Some people say that they have seen France a.k.a. been to Paris for a week. English is now spoken in a great mini areas. How to meet people and enjoy their culture when you’re 80+.?..thanks Bob
Yes, yes, yes... South Africa! Cape Town, Durban beach, Wild Coast and Eastern Cape beaches (makes the Brazilian beach shown rather rocky and not so nice), Kruger Park... :) When the pandemic has died down, do consider visiting our beautiful country. :) :) :)
@@TravelingwithKristinHey Kristin, thanks for your reply. He sure is, Palle is so insightful, it just goes to show it is only ourselves that hold us back. Forgot to also say I'm glad I came across your channel and repeatedly watch your vlogs just helps me keep focused, inspired and on point. Keep going and your awesome 👍👍
Excellent interview that’s very inspirational for us who are in their 20’s and 30’s to become a digital nomad full-time💎 What is the microphone that Palle is holding in his hand in the video and where can you purchase it?
Just found your channel. Really enjoyed this interview Kristin. Not sure if being a digital nomad full time would suit me, perhaps, but being able to become location independent, without question, would be a dream come true. My fear/concern is that I am a complete 'caveman' when it comes to technology which clearly is needed to achieve this lifestyle.

I will definitely have a base in Portugal, since I will be operating in EU. But Brazil is so much cheaper to live. So far I'm not considering Philippines or Georgia. Frankly not having warm weather is an option I would rather avoid.
How do you manage healthcare and finance? I’m US based and thinking of starting in France and staying in AirBnB one month at a time and move on around Europe.
This was so amazing. I want to be a digital nomad. How do you start? I want to learn how to do something I can do to make money online. Any suggestions?

Hi Kristin, thanks for all your very interesting videos! I live in North Carolina and have serious plans now to travel down to Mexico, Central and South America as a digital nomad. I'm turning 52 this month btw so it was nice to see an older guy in this video! Anyway, I have a question unrelated to age :) Do you have suggestions on how to best solve the cell phone situation? Are most digital nomads sticking to apps such as WhatsApp, Skype, LINE, etc. and restrict their use to WiFi hotspots to call their families? I looked at Verizon international data and voice plans but I'm finding them ridiculously expensive so that's non-starter for me it seems. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
Hi Alex, glad you enjoyed the conversation! Palle is a legend. Regarding your question, I use T-Mobile so I can keep a US number in one cell phone on a month-to-month plan (and it includes international data but very slow). I also keep a second cell phone unlocked that I can use local SIM cards in. I also use SkyRoam as a WiFi hotspot for a back-up connection. Here's my link: bit.ly/SkyRoam Hope this helps!
Thanks for the info @@TravelingwithKristin , I'll take a look at SkyRoam. It looks like a good solution for Google maps if I'm driving around or important internet calls.
How do you figure out what to do for income? I own a boarding kennel and barely get to leave my property much less travel. I love dogs, but the last 23 years of my life has been spent raising my youngest son and caring for people’s dogs while THEY travel!
There a number of ways, you can check out this link: www.podcastinsights.com/make-money-podcasting/ I have only been to Cape Verde so far, but I hope to visit Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa this year
Yeah, duh. I am divorced for many years single Mom, I took my we'un to Ireland for 8 months when he was only 3. I couldn't pick him up and drop him into another culture and away from his family. So now, 2022, I was in England and my partner of 12 years died, out of nowhere. Gonna call that the worst 2 months in the UK ever. At the point, I would like to say don't wait.❤️
Hi Kristin. You mentioned about a group where there are nomadic families and they give advice. I would like to travel with my children too. Where can I find more information please?
Hi Kriss! Do you remember the time stamp? I checked the show notes but it looks like I didn't add them as it was one of my first podcast episodes and I didn't know what I was doing 😄 www.travelingwithkristin.com/digital-nomad-podcast/2019/06/never-too-late-retire-as-a-digital-nomad-palle-bo
Without a plan for retirement, how do you live without being a burden to others? After 60, you are likely to get more health related issues and may not be able to always have a nomadic life style (or even work).
@slhermit, My main need to go abroad is for health care bc I've been written off as having no value even as an elite athlete from age 5 through age 41 w/ three degrees, three teacher credentials, + tons of skills. Through the escalated withholding of medical care over decades, I was made into a person w/ multi complex disabilities, extremely limited mobility w/ also the non provision of prescribled palliative curative care including much needed pain management to prescribed palliative care until hospice care is needed. There may be more due to withheld follow up diagnostic testing for 3 types of cancer. ER to all forms of healthcare are withheld. I'm 59. This obviously isn't what I want for myself. This isn't even the culture I want to die in. I just want to be treated humanely. I also can't afford to live in the USA. Almost everything I owned was just destroyed by 4 months of sewage back ups + floodings further harming other chronic, acute, recurrent, to endemic infections as part of disabilities effecting my respiratory - pulmonary, + immune system, + I can't afford housing + low income housing which I've been repeatedly found qualified for - just liike all those mentioned forms of medical care - and even a specialty electric wheelchair - have been withheld. An ortho surgeon implanted medically contraindicated devices including where they never should be placed without requesting or obtaining permission despite 100% of ppl sustaining massive disc ruptures within 5yrs. The surgeon graduated valedictorian from top notch undergrad + med school, so it seems to be a case of what a Canadian writer wrote about in the NY Times as being "intentional medical harm designed to shorten the lives of ppl w/ disabilities + to force an unbearable or impossible existence. Once the massive disc ruptures occurred that's when medical care intensively began to be withheld w/ the surgeon + primary care provider of then 23 yrs patient dumping me within 24 hrs of each other. I didn't know for years the extent of what the surgeon had done to me followed ny even much worse. Getting overseas would be the biggest challenge followed by severely impaired mobility w/ the discs in my spine compressing my dried out + easily severable spinal cord w/ widespread nerve damage + pain which is severe to agonizing. I always loved travel, meeting ppl from all over the world, experiencing new cultures, traditions, foods, scenery, + extreme to outdoor sports, + activities plus walking all day exploring the beauty of a new place + having engaging conversations w/ other backpackers as well plus sharing a flat together long term. I know my situation is well beyond the wheelchair travel as prospective digital expat, but I'd really like to know if that is a reality explored on this channel yet along w/ medical tourism to regain quality of life + one's humanity. Thank you so much.
Not true. Vagabond was synonymous of homeless or tramp, though maybe a bit less desperate. Modern day "nomads" are more like location independent or travelling "yuppies." Not really very bohemian, too much like privileged backpackers.
I'm a Digital Homad. I travel to other countries in my imagination and work remote from my home. I order all my food to be delivered and very rarely step outside my house. Some call it an exciting alternative way to live but many mental health professionals call it agoraphobia.

So many adventures! Love to hear that :D Keep it up!

I’m 54 and just started my journey. Split from longtime gf and decided to hit the road. No ex wife’s, no children, no debt so why not? So far only Croatia, but Lisbon next followed by Istanbul. Airbnb so far, but that might change. Good luck out there everyone. Dominic
Hi Dominic! That's great to hear and best of luck to you🙏 Have a safe and happy travels! 😊
Kristin, I am loving this video. All of it, but especially Palle's story about connecting people and becoming friends with someone through Facebook. That is my love language. ❤️❤️❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm 50 and thinking about doing this. Still trying to research and figure a few things out, but thank you for this video. Very inspirational and good to know I'm not too old to embark on this lifestyle. Great video as most are with people a lot younger than us older peeps. ;)

How exciting!! I am 42 and was wondering if I was too old to start, but now I am inspired! Right on, Palle!!
That's great, Heather! 🙌💛

I totally felt this video! A interesting and very good video with a different perspective. 🙏

Well said! Thanks for sharing!

Please do TH-cam. there will be a lot of viewers.
I do. I've been wanting to go nomad, but most of these people vlogging are 30 years younger than me. It would be nice to hear from someone older.
Great I admire people who are traveling working on line and enjoying life congratulations

Not being able to stay most countries for more than 3 months is exhausting and stressful and combined with being lonely it can break you
I understand Kristofer, I actually talked about loneliness as a digital nomad in this video th-cam.com/video/ZwxGU1jhPKs/w-d-xo.html

Just found your channel. Really enjoyed this interview Kristin. Not sure if being a digital nomad full time would suit me, perhaps, but being able to become location independent, without question, would be a dream come true.
It looks like a good solution for Google maps if I'm driving around or important internet calls.
you can do over 50 countries called united states .. all different countries with out borders plus islands .
That's true - there's a lot of diversity in the US!
Does Denmark require their citizens (who are digital nomads) to keep paying their high taxes?
How do you figure out what to do for income? I own a boarding kennel and barely get to leave my property much less travel. I love dogs, but the last 23 years of my life has been spent raising my youngest son and caring for people’s dogs while THEY travel!
Hi Leslie! This video covers how I make money online! th-cam.com/video/q9G4EETqxig/w-d-xo.html

Without a plan for retirement, how do you live without being a burden to others?
After 60, you are likely to get more health related issues and may not be able to always
have a nomadic life style (or even work).
"vagabond" is how they called nomads in the 60s and 70s
It's true!
Not true. Vagabond was synonymous of homeless or tramp, though maybe a bit less desperate. Modern day "nomads" are more like location independent or travelling "yuppies." Not really very bohemian, too much like privileged backpackers.
