  • This video celebrates a crowded shred fest at Lower Kanaha beach park on the north shore of Maui, Hawaii. On this particular day there was a large sized westerly swell hitting the island which created some gnarly conditions at Ho'okipa. When I arrived at Ho'okipa there were a few pro sailors rigging up to take on the conditions which did not look to have any element of fun. I knew instantly that I would be heading down the coast to Kanaha as I'm not that into survival sailing. Kanaha is sheltered by the west Maui mountains from the energy of the west swell which makes it much more manageable and all around way more fun and FUN is what this is all about! This session has a little of everything. I share waves with Levi Siver and a few more with Tom Soltysiak. I practice Takas until I finally nail one. Hope you enjoy this session video! The usual: „plowing Water“ underpowered on a Board too small that would fit 5bft and 8ft Waves

    ME LIKEY. Gracias for the POV. Can you tell me about your experience with the Cube? Size, your weight, general thoughts..?

      I’m riding a custom shaped Cube (made for
      Levi) which is about 85l. This is the perfect all round volume for my 80kg weight in side - side off conditions. The board itself is sick! It turns tight, has plenty of speed and is super well balanced when slogging in light winds. It has everything I want in a down the line wave board.

    Do you have some remote (not POV) video of your tacks? To me, as impressive as the back loops.

      Thank you! I don't think I do have any footage showing my tacks from another perspective. I'll try to get someone to film one the next time I'm on the water.

    what time of year is this? And do you use any online resources to find out wave size? I live on Oahu and I just use iwindsurf to check the wind and then use tv news to determine swell size. I haven’t sailed Maui since the days of the Superferry, but I want to come back soon as possible, sail port tack.

      @gatesurfer This session was in November of 2019. Most of us refer to iwindsurf for the wind but I also refer daily to Maui Surf Report Blog (mauisurfreport.blogspot.com) which has a great summary of what to expect for the day and there is a long list of weather related links on the right hand side of his website for more details on the wind and wave forecasts. Hope to see you here soon!

    what month was that session? I plan to go in April. Are that kind of waves possible in April in Kanaha?

    • @koav
      @koav  ปีที่แล้ว

      This sessions was in November. It is possible to score good Lower Kanaha waves in April but the best time for good wave conditions is between late October and March. Have a great time on Maui!

    Hi, when is the best time to go?

    • @koav
      @koav  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say the best times to go for wind and waves is October-November or March-April.
