This kind of videos are worth it! You have showed some “reachable” goals to the non professionals like me (getting in the ocean with no wind at the coast, waiting and catching a wave, etc.). Thank you for posting! 👏👏

Awesome channel you have here, I've been watching a few of your videos and I'm really enjoying them, its nice to be able to learn a lot about a particular spot such as this iconic location.
I've been windsurfing for a long time, but only started wave sailing earlier this year in March. I'm often going to our local down the line spots now as I find the waves so addictve. I was looking for some POV down the line videos which is how I ended up here. I'm learning a lot from your videos!! Even the walk of shame, such valuable information and insights there too.
I also have a YT channel which I post my sessions on so I can look back at what I can improve on.....
I am hoping to make it to Hookipa one day!!

    Hi! Awesome video!
I was wondering what kind of mount you use and which model of GoPro?
    Thanks by advance =)

Hey! Awesome clip, always nice to see the whole action start to finish :)
I got a few questions (if you don't mind)
    1. I see that when you're going inside you're not planning, and it kinda looks you are underpowered. Is that so, and if so, did you choose the smaller gear or was it a happy accident?
    2. How do you determine which wave you're gonna grab? Are you looking for specific signs or is it an intuition thing?
    3. What's your setup? I see you have a 5.0. What about the board (size, setup)?
    4. So what did Levi mean by "don't over cook the flats" ?😅 (side note: his tack at ~38:00 was lightning fast)
    Thanks :)

Thanks @chrisk7150! Great questions! Ho’okipa is famous for having a big wind shadow on the inside created by the topography of the land surrounding the beach park. It is one of the many challenges of sailing this break.
As for choosing waves this is something that is learned by experience. Distilled down to a simple explanation we are looking for the largest ground swell that looks like it will provide the longest possible ride. Each day is different but your decision process starts from the moment you arrive at the beach and set your eyes on what the ocean is doing.
On this day I was riding a 93L custom quad.
Lastly, Levi’s comments refer to making your bottom turn on the wave face or as close to the wave face as possible. This is specifically focused on side side-off sailing and not on shore. The natural tendency for windsurfers is to make the bottom turn out in front of the wave (the flats) using the wind in our sails to generate our speed. Turning on or at the transition from the flats to the wave face allows one to access the energy in the wave creating more speed up the wave face as well as more control and accuracy with our timing to hit the lip.

Great videos, the quality is good. Not a fan of the narration, personally, but I usually just mute and put on music.
