I was part of the QA team for this game. It was a nightmare of bugs. Over 10k bugs a few weeks before release during my time in Atari. Took them months to realize the PC version didn't have an "Exit" feature in the main menu to close the game without opening task manager. Remember the QA lead for this game getting chewed out for that one.
Was such a hard game toward the end when dealing with the police in riot gear, remember always spamming the move where you turn a can of paint into a flamethrower
I was 13 when this game dropped. I was a MASSIVE Ecko fan and loved his clothing line. The game kept popping up on my Game Informers and I begged for it when it was revealed. My father got me the game, even the collectors edition with the sticky name pads, sketchbook, and game edition Sharpie. Man, thanks to this game I started to get into Graffiti, learned about Punk and Skate culture, and stuff. And all of that were nice. I was in middle school when i first played this but was already into graffiti before. The progression from starting as a toy to becoming a legend is so accurate it’s wild. Cos throughout the game you see Trane get better and better, that’s basically how it is irl. It’s Definitely an underrated game
Mannnnnn, this game was the centerpiece of my middle school years. My sister and I would play for hours. And my sister was not the type of girl that was into games like that but this game hooked her! I played through the story several times myself. One of my favorite childhood memories playing this with her.
I'll add that the french voice over for this game was amazing too! Definitely one of my favorite game ever. It technically wasn't the best game ever but it was just so unique that it made it unforgettable for me.
Man, this game is a weird one for me. I know for a fact I played it, but I cannot remember any of it at all. But I remember having it physically, and I remember thinking it was really good, I just can't pinpoint actually sitting there and playing it. Very strange. Tempted to go back to it after watching this. Great video as always!
Just got a backwards compatible ps3 and a copy of Getting Up to revisit my early teens. Such a great game that deserves a remaster. A lot of people missed out on a classic here! Thanks for spreading the awareness.
I remember beating this game. Last day of 8th grade. Played this in the morning and missed the bus. I didn't care and my mom was kool with me staying home so I kept playing til i completed the story
Whoa, I’ve never heard of this game and now that you mention the games that were released beside it (like bully and GOW), I see why it never got attention. The graphics look very dated for its time but the story is so engaging. Hoping the movie adaptation comes out because the concept is pretty unique.
Great video man I normally don't watch videos over 30 minutes but your good at what you do & I'm a fan of your content & you speak your honest opinion & always spot on great game wish we got a sequel
Ironically, I think I remember when this game came out because my mind went " _Reminds me of Jet-Set Radio._ " . Then I forgot about it until my friend linked me this video, hah. I find the PS2 graphics charming and much more enjoyable to look at than modern ultra-realism. So this game is going into my wishlist on steam. All that platforming is getting me really giddy!
Dude thank you for doing this video! I will never forget when I seen the behind the scenes about this game back in the day from the Official US PS Magazine demo disc that got my attention. I own the special edition game in the silver case. Learning about a movie based off this game becoming a reality and a sequel today sure is good to know.

Wish they made dope games like this again.
I remember playing this on a demo disc from a magazine, replayed it loads before i got a lend of the full game from a friend. I loved it. Originally had to hide it from my mam because i must have only been 13 and i wasn't supposed to play 18 rated games ha
Underrated, unknown game, with an amazing story and a true feel that you are actually a graffiti artists. The controls are wanky for todays standards, but the story alone is worth it. I replay this game every year.
I remember playing it as a a kid, I was like 10 at that point and started tagging in real life with sharpies and such. I am so surprised to see how many people know this game as well as before I came across this video, I never met another person who knows this game. Loved it.
GREAT. Great. Video. This is why I watch TH-cam instead of TV or anything else. There are some content creator that see what everybody sees, but nobody speaks. This was EASILY the most UNDERRATED game that I ever played. From someone that has thousands of hours of many other games played, the story, the gameplay (Even at that time), and the message. Just incredible.
Great retrospective! This game was defining moment in my childhood. It got me into the world of street art and this was an amazing deep dive. Thank you Mr. Hammers!
I would absolutely adore seeing this game re-done for modern consoles or games. I found this gem on a website not too long ago and played through it again to re-live a good portion of my childhood spent playing it and it's amazing how much more you understand about games you played young as an adult. Genuinely a solid piece of art for it's time.
wow thats insane… i was watching some of your videos and remembered about this game and was looking for this game retrospective a couple days ago. and now u just released it 😂
A fascinating & well done profile on this unique game & the essence of it's background with Street Art! By the way, I covered your excellent channel in my recent Top 15 Favorite Game Review Channels video my friend!
I remember when this came out and yet it really slipped through the gaps for a multitude of reasons, most of which were covered pretty well. It hit such a weird spot of being both ahead of it's time yet also behind in some aspects, was jarring for sure. Gaming was definitely getting bigger and bigger (the GTA games contributing majorly) but I think it wasn't quite at the right level of mainstream to make a splash quite yet. Was very much a more cinematic experience than was common at the time coupled with a more niche interest helped it fly way under the radar. Also have to say the melodrama is just a touch too thick to hit right. While I wasn't expecting Jet Set Radio levels of silliness (which is still the best graffiti centric titles even over twenty years later) but rings way less serious than intended. So much talent and great concepts involved but almost like it insists upon itself too hard.
As a young 13 year old when this game was released it one of my favorites and still is to this day. I always loved the art, the setting, and niche that the game appealed to. It's definitely an under rated game and deserves more recognition.

Man, this game is a weird one for me. I know for a fact I played it, but I cannot remember any of it at all. But I remember having it physically, and I remember thinking it was really good, I just can't pinpoint actually sitting there and playing it. Very strange. Tempted to go back to it after watching this. Great video as always!
man i forgot about this game. huge childhood flashback watching this. thank you
One of the best games ever. The track list was amazing.
I thought this game was just lost in my subconscious! good for you making a video on it!
Badass game, don't know a single other person who played it tho, I still listen to some songs today that this game introduced me too.
Love seeing you cover all these older games from my childhood. This game inspired quite a bit of my hoodlum status when i was younger
Whoa, I’ve never heard of this game and now that you mention the games that were released beside it (like bully and GOW), I see why it never got attention. The graphics look very dated for its time but the story is so engaging. Hoping the movie adaptation comes out because the concept is pretty unique.
The game should’ve been a next gen exclusive
Id absoloutely LOVE to see this re'released for consoles in 2024.. a remaster, or even a pt.2!
one of my favorite games of all time. One of those games where you just wanna tell the whole world that you completed it. Great Experience.
Great video man I normally don't watch videos over 30 minutes but your good at what you do & I'm a fan of your content & you speak your honest opinion & always spot on great game wish we got a sequel
Ayy thanks dude, appreciate that!
The waits always worth it cause the videos are always fire. Didn’t know mah boy was a hip hop head as well. Good shit bruh!
Oh yeah, I know hip hop more than any other genre. That's my shit lol
Man great video, still got memories of playing gettin’ up on the PS2 as a kid.
Dude thank you for doing this video! I will never forget when I seen the behind the scenes about this game back in the day from the Official US PS Magazine demo disc that got my attention. I own the special edition game in the silver case. Learning about a movie based off this game becoming a reality and a sequel today sure is good to know.
thank u for the full depth analysis, there are some things that i didn't even know about, like the charles town soldiers for example
This game absolutely shaped my music taste as well as THUG2 love this game
I remember playing this game on my PlayStation 2, this was definitely one of my favorites ever for so many years. I got a PC a year ago and immediately used a PlayStation 2 Emulator and got to relive my childhood. Thank you for reviewing this game, much love 💙
Beat this game a few times back in the day I'm so glad we got a 40min video review.
I really liked playing this one back in the day, thanks for the video!
Clicked on this video so fast!!! 40 minute mr hammers video, let’s go !!
💪💪
I've been an avid gamer since i was 8. I've played countless games like Kingdom come deliverance. A hidden gem. Skyrim. The best. Dragons dogma skyrim X monster hunter
Assassin's Creed 1 on release Day.
So many games. Recently i play destiny 2 again. I played valheim and got to prairie before i rage quit lol
But anyway
THIS GAME IS STRAIGHT FLAMES
SO IS THE WARRIORS (same generation)
Ill never forget this game. My gerbil died while i was playing and my mom told me . R.i.p podo
Rip Podo. Such a G, gone too soon
@@MrHammers apparently he had wet tail which is like a rodent cancer. Only thing I remember about the game is using cheats to pass the train part cause it was a broken mess. Same for the fun house part in the warriors
Man, this is one of those games I played on PS2 as a little kid and long ago forgot its name. Thanks a lot for these videos, I'm sure not only me but others as well can recognize some of the games they played
What a game this was ! gona try and run it on my Retroid pocket3+.
Remember playing this in France when it came out, i would have never thought in a thousand years that i would then meet in real life Shepard, Futura and Cope2 when i moved to new york in 2010.
I was just thinking of this game recently, definitely a unique release... great video!
This was my shit! got this from a genx years ago they threw it in with a hoodie i got, it was one of them big ass baggy one the kids be rockin today. kept the game long enough for my lil bro to play when he got older ... probably still laying around in my ps2 collection somewhere.
This game and Darkwatch were a big part of my childhood. Loved both videos. Keep it up man.
An absolute classic
Thanks for shining light on this amazing game !
I remember playing it as a a kid, I was like 10 at that point and started tagging in real life with sharpies and such. I am so surprised to see how many people know this game as well as before I came across this video, I never met another person who knows this game. Loved it.
Thanks for watching expect more 🎉🎉
Congrats you won hit up 🎉🎁🎁✅
GREAT. Great.
Thank you brother 🙏. Glad you liked it
this game is so fucking good , such a childhood classic
Great retrospective! This game was defining moment in my childhood. It got me into the world of street art and this was an amazing deep dive. Thank you Mr. Hammers!
I would absolutely adore seeing this game re-done for modern consoles or games. I found this gem on a website not too long ago and played through it again to re-live a good portion of my childhood spent playing it and it's amazing how much more you understand about games you played young as an adult. Genuinely a solid piece of art for it's time.
Thanks for bringing back a memory I had almost forgotten. This game was a run through time.
wow thats insane… i was watching some of your videos and remembered about this game and was looking for this game retrospective a couple days ago. and now u just released it 😂
I’m sooooo glad someone finally made a video on this game, I was thinking about it last week!
Bought the special edition of this game when it came out, still love and appreciated, truly a classic gem
This game changed my life.
Such a time to be alive. So glad I was a kid to see this come out and be such a underdog and have such a impact. Man we need a second one and a movie
Get Michael Mando to do Trane
Edit: J. Cole would be a great Trane too.
I Subbed, thank you for making such entertaining and informative content ... we sincerely appreciate you
Thank you!
A fascinating & well done profile on this unique game & the essence of it's background with Street Art!
By the way, I covered your excellent channel in my recent Top 15 Favorite Game Review Channels video my friend!
Ayyy! Thanks my dude, appreciate that
I remember when this came out and yet it really slipped through the gaps for a multitude of reasons, most of which were covered pretty well.
