I still feel like the wonder tower strange sequence is really well done. Until the point ras shows up. The whole scene where bruce confronts strange is very cool until he gets stabbed and just dies lol
@@Demonically_Inspired Exactly my thoughts. The buildup after protocol 10 commences, Batman scanning the choppers, and climbing all the way up to Wonder Tower was my favorite part of the game. But when Strange mentioned higher-ups I immediately knew he was a puppet of Ra's and he had a really unceremonious death.
In a way, I guess Joker wasn't. Strange and Ras were definitely bigger threats to Gotham and the world in general, Joker just seized an advantage after they were dealt with.

Considering so much of the marketing centered on Two-Face as well, imagine if his evil side was leading his gang against Penguin and Joker in Arkham City... while Harvey Dent was working with Hugo Strange and TYGER to sabotage all three, believing that Protocol 10 was a more benevolent program, and that Strange was his last shot at redemption. Then Batman has to reveal the truth to Harvey or Two-Face, possibly even siding with the villain to stop Strange. I quite like his arkham incarnation despite what my tone in the video might indicate. Im not mad, just disappointed because they under utilized him lol. Lockup definitely wouldve been a cool inclusion too. We already have asylum to be a good setup for a crazy guard and then include him in city. Tho i do wonder if having an enforcer for tyger would make it too similar to the militia being led by jason while scarecrow runs the main show

He’s one of my favorite Batman villains, if not my favorite. This is probably his best appearance, even if it is flawed
I wonder if it would be more interesting if the idea was that strange was manipulating the gotham high society, or so he thought. But in reality it was the court of owls manipulating strange into thinking he had the gotham high society in his pocket where in reality the court was using him as a means to an end? And then you can have the court of owls plot line just be hinted in Ac just like arkham city was hinted in asylum. And then between knight and city we place a court of owl story. It's really weird because all the background stuff they give Strange revolves around mind control (like him experimenting on inmates) yet his master plan is essentially just shoot missiles at everything until Arkham City is ruined. Which then begs the question of why couldn't he just orchestrate a mass riot at any point and kill everyone as an emergency security measure instead of arbitrarily setting a date and time to do it (which also makes the countdown stupid because what if the city council refused to give him permission? Then the countdown would be pointless)? Given all the brainwashing shenanigans I expected Hugo's master plan to be some epic scheme to turn everyone in Arkham City into his slaves and ruin Batman forever yet they just made him into a discount four-eyed neckbeard Punisher wannabe who then gets a lame death. Completely fucked up an awesome character from the comics at all which sucks because Arkham City is the most prominent appearance he's ever had. Maybe in the future someone will come along and actually do a major piece of media that does justice to Strange. Also Ra's role in the game makes no logical sense at all but I'll refrain from rambling too long. That being said Hugo being shoved aside didn't surprise me too much because I remember the marketing campaign for Arkham City and Hugo was barely ever mentioned outside of the trailers despite him supposedly being the main villain. I don't think the story really needed 2 twists at the end, with ra's and the clayface reveal its kinda bloated
Some people criticize Arkham Knight storyline but at least Dr. Crane achieved his goal of revealing Batman to the public which forced Batman to take serious decisions and fake his demise, unlike Hugo, who was outsmarted by Ra's and only getting things done half way through
New sub! The points you've mentioned in the video make a lot of sense. I'm in the minority with not considering this the magnum opis of video games (I know that's an exaggeration) but it's not a bad one. Joker is over-utilized in the trilogy and I think him being a side story similar to The Penguin or Mr. Freeze would've been better. He wouldn't be the main focus of the game but he'd still be required so his passing at the end is still a plot point that could be carried over to Knight. That way his death isn't something that could be missed, but isn't the focus. It was mentioned that the "minor" villains in the game should've been obstacles thrown at B-Man to either slow him down or break him like Scarecrow did. The Joker should have been one of those. Have more time in the story than Two-Face, for example, but not be front and center. I know I'm rambling, but if I think of more it'll be put in a comment on this one.

I think most of arkham stories issues stem from the joker. I love mark hamil and his performance as him is incredible in this entire series. But like. No hate, but Hugo Strange basically had won, so he had no need to do anything. Also, the twist while anticlimatic does make sense. Ra's needed someone who could manipulate his way to power to kill every criminal. So Hugo Strange would be perfect. Plus, Hugo doesn't want to break Batman. He wants to show Bruce that he is the next step. The next Batman. Breaking Bruce would completely ruin his plan. While yes, it's sad that he wasn't there doing whatever he can to stop Batman. It makes sense when you think about what he wants to do. He manipulates Two Face to capture Catwoman. Uses Mad Hatter to mind control Tyger guards. Everything to plan ahead to make Batman see that he is better. Scarcrow breaks minds. Hugo manipulates them.
Dont worry about the hate, i always enjoy a good debate lol. So the thing is is hugo wants to defeat batman and prove himself superior. But he is very ineffective at that. Aside from protocol 10 he does nothing. And while strange did nearly win the fact that ras was his superior kinda makes his sccomplishments feel shallow to a certain degree. And ras being the main bad behind strange is made worse when you already beat him. The best comparison i find is scarecrow. The way crane and jason chips away at bruce in knight is a masterclass on how to have psychologically dangerous enemies. Crane did feel like he was in control even before he gasses you. Even penguin while being a wuss has great moments like in the museum and later during knight. Sure hes a small fry but its about the dominance and commanding air he has. Strange starts orf charismatic, turns bland then has a good ending cutscene which is undermined bu plot twist. That just reminds me of vaas from FC 3
@Demonically_Inspired I see your point, but I've always been Hugo like this. A guy who doesn't try to prove himself any more than he needs to. Similar to how Scarecrow is. Once Scarcrow blasted the city with fear toxin, he also stops doing much. Just waits until the Arkham Knight betrays him and then goes after Gorden to break batmans mind. In both scenarios both had won, Hugo Strange thought himself invincible and untouchable. Being a literal hypocrite to what he said on how no one is untouchable. His own ego and arrogance makes him think he's already won. So he didn't need to do anything from his point of view. The interview tapes show he was planning this for a while. Putting pieces there where batman would be too distracted to stop protocol 10. To the point where he uses his own weapons to start it up. Also, I do love your artwork.
@@skeletonking1 i can see that perspective too. this is tbh all gonna be subjective back and forth lol. tho i will say scarecrow doesnt stop doing much, after knight screwed him over he was retreating and planning the next step. problem is hugo doesnt even feel involved after his introduction. i wanted him to distract batman, like okay in knight scarecrow was the one who created the alliance of all villains. imagine if hugo threatened or manipulated all the villains into targetting batman... thaks for the compliment btw.
@Demonically_Inspired yeah might as well just stop here cause it's getting into subjective areas. And yeah, it would have been cool to see Hugo just doing all this crazy stuff of manipulating every villain into going after Batman at once. But he kinda did something similar instead with manipulating the villains into going after each other, which distracted batman from the main goal.
Ehhh, no, strange have main relevance in all the game, he send weapons to penguin and joker, he send Selina in an trap by two face, all time is manipulating the situation, you need read the stories of riddles and hear the tapes to know that, too manipulate Mad Hatter and Quincy Sharp Strange made exactly what you want, all time throw the villains to batman giving them resources
i never said hes not relevant, i meant he comes across as secondary in his own story. he manipulated the villains which like i said was the best part of strange which can be seen in recordings and side stories. problem is in the main campaign the second you get to the steel mill strange and protocol 10 are completely side lined. and he didnt really throw villains at batman either. penguin was doing his own thing until batman attacked him and even then he only went there for freeze otherwise penguin wouldnt even be in batmans attention. two face and batman dont interact beyond the first part of the game. quincy sharp was manipulated thats part of the main story and hatter was just kinda there and adds nothing of value other than a fun side mission. now in universe strange may have manipulated everyone but from a narative perspective, why should i care about strange when even the game doesnt bother to much
@@Demonically_Inspired but you're missing one thing, Joker had to die in this game for Dini's story So Joker had to have the role of main antagonist no matter what, here at least, even so Hugo is the main secondary antagonist and is treated very well taking into account the first Also, only as a veteran batman reader I see two characters as main villains for Batman and these are Joker and Hush, they are the only ones that should be considered nemesis, the second one, people don't know much about but he is as much more of a nemesis to Batman, so much that he beats the Joker like nemesis Hugo strange seems to me to be very well treated especially in the tapes you discover all his true involvement and it is very well woven with his involvement with Ras I think that the fact of arming them and giving them capacity is like throwing the villains at Batman, it makes him get involved with Harvey by manipulating Catwoman, it arms the main gangs that are Joker and Penguin and you forget Deadshot who was also hired by Hugo Strange

But he kinda did something similar instead with manipulating the villains into going after each other, which distracted batman from the main goal.
u sounds so silly and funy!
thanks haha! err.. in a good way yeah? lmao
@@Demonically_Inspired bwahahahhaahha!
if rocksteady didn't make origins it doesn't count don't care.
i mean arkham knight literally acknowledges it lol. and besides rocksteady also made suicide squad and killed batman on a park bench so...
Ehhh, no, strange have main relevance in all the game, he send weapons to penguin and joker, he send Selina in an trap by two face, all time is manipulating the situation, you need read the stories of riddles and hear the tapes to know that, too manipulate Mad Hatter and Quincy Sharp
Strange made exactly what you want, all time throw the villains to batman giving them resources
i never said hes not relevant, i meant he comes across as secondary in his own story.
he manipulated the villains which like i said was the best part of strange which can be seen in recordings and side stories. problem is in the main campaign the second you get to the steel mill strange and protocol 10 are completely side lined. and he didnt really throw villains at batman either. penguin was doing his own thing until batman attacked him and even then he only went there for freeze otherwise penguin wouldnt even be in batmans attention. two face and batman dont interact beyond the first part of the game. quincy sharp was manipulated thats part of the main story and hatter was just kinda there and adds nothing of value other than a fun side mission.
now in universe strange may have manipulated everyone but from a narative perspective, why should i care about strange when even the game doesnt bother to much
@@Demonically_Inspired but you're missing one thing, Joker had to die in this game for Dini's story
So Joker had to have the role of main antagonist no matter what, here at least, even so Hugo is the main secondary antagonist and is treated very well taking into account the first
Also, only as a veteran batman reader I see two characters as main villains for Batman and these are Joker and Hush, they are the only ones that should be considered nemesis, the second one, people don't know much about but he is as much more of a nemesis to Batman, so much that he beats the Joker like nemesis
Hugo strange seems to me to be very well treated especially in the tapes you discover all his true involvement and it is very well woven with his involvement with Ras
I think that the fact of arming them and giving them capacity is like throwing the villains at Batman, it makes him get involved with Harvey by manipulating Catwoman, it arms the main gangs that are Joker and Penguin and you forget Deadshot who was also hired by Hugo Strange
@@Sr.Green. thing is just like joker deserved his own game so did strange. also hush was also not given the proper role he deserves.
ive read comics too man, for years. but the reality is narratively this comes off the back of asylum and the focus should be arkham city and protocol 10 but what we got wasnt bad. just under used strange. that said its all very subjective. personally, not a fan of how main story handles strange. (love the side stories and tapes tho)
@Demonically_Inspired Imagine, for me Hush is the best Batman villain, the only want that broke kill rule and get more further that joker in personal, dangerous and damage and actions, and in Knight they ruined him in such a way that even those who know the least about Hush can know how horrible was this mission
In comparison, Hugo Strange has a much more dignified treatment and one of the best representations of Batman outside of comics, Hush was masterful in City and in Knight he is "the worst character in the entire Arkham saga without a doubt".
Add too that protocol 10 succeed dude, he exterminate most population of arkham city
@@Sr.Green. again im not talking about in universe stuff. in the context of the story it's fine? its nothing amazing but its not bad. but the thing is even if protocol 10 succeeded that isnt a testament to good writing., its just something that happens. but that said its all very subjective, so if you thought it was perfect im happy for you man, but me personally, im not a fan of how strange is handled
remember me when u become big my brother
I wont forget the og viewers gang😉
20 on pump 4
A matter of time before this guy get flamed i believe 🗿
Lmao. Whaaa? The internet flaming someone for criticizing a well loved game because opinions are subjective? Come on man what are the odds of that happening /s
