    Can someone please help.... I have a problem that makes no sense at all. "A zoning ordinance requires that any property with impervious coverage that discharges more than 100,000 gallons of water in a 4-inch rain storm must have a retention pond. The subject property will have 260,000 s.f. of impervious surface. A cubic foot of water contains 7.48 gallons and a retention ponds can hold no more than 500,000 gallons for safety reasons. What is the amount of water being displaced." Can some solve and explain, major thanks, (I'm using a HP12c calculator).

    I under that A squared plus B squared equals C squared, but can you explain something to me?
    This is my own hypothetical math problem I'll be using to explain my confusion.
    If Line A and Line B are parallel and the distance between line A and Line B is 10 meters but you travel at a 45 degree angle from Line A, how does it not take 15 meters to reach Line B? For some reason my mind jumps to it taking time and a half distance to travel between two parallel points when traveling at a 45 degree angle. I know this isn't true but can you explain in detail why besides A squared plus B squared equals C squared?

    • @momoy4716
      @momoy4716 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Draw a square. Draw a diagonal line from one point of the square to the other. Measure the length one side of the square. Then measure the length of the hypotenuse. It should be the side of the square times √(2). I unfortunately can't explain why it works like that, but it does with 45-45-90 triangles, which is what you created with the square (which could be any size you wanted and would still work as long as it was a perfect square/45-45-90 triangle.).
      Sorry if this doesn't help, that's all the explanation I can give, as I know that it works, just not HOW it works.

  • @MsCankersore
    @MsCankersore 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The second problem is confusing. I see where you got 6 and 8 and then half of 8 is 4 for the two triangles but isn't the 10 part of that triangke? I mean it very well is but why is it being left out??
