I have this on my class c with the 6.8,I noticed a difference just starting for the first time,it has a different sound to the exhaust.
As far as driving goes,the shifting is the main improvement, no more constant downshifting on little hills,and if I pay attention to upcoming hills,I can maintain highway speed without a downshift at all.
As far as acceleration, its a class c motorhome, its not winning any drag races,but there is an improvement for sure.
Fuel efficiency is a little better,I averaged 10.8 on a 6k mile round trip from PA to ID,some serious thin air hills involved on that trip,and we went heavy as we took a bunch of supplies for family we were visiting.
But I also now have a tachometer, voltage meter,trans temp,intake temp,coolant temp,but this is all customizable as well.

Yes I have that tuner I bought it at the 2022 Tampa RV show for my 35k holiday rambler vacationer. I love it, I noticed right away the difference in power it made and shifting. It is easy to install and easy to go back to stick if you need to.

Based on this video we ordered a 5Star Tune for our 2017 Thor Vegas 25.5 (E-450 chassis with the Triton V10 6.8L engine) and installed it today. OMG! The driving experience is so much better! The pointless double-downshifting on hills is gone! The engine is so much quieter all the time. I can feel the additional torque when starting from a dead stop and the acceleration even when going up a long incline is so much smoother. Thank you Izzy and MJ! Thank you #5startuning!

Just placed an order and I got it for $439.
I went with Ultra RVs tune. Basically just liked their tables and shift strategy better but either way for a V10 motor home tuning is huge. Made a big difference in transmission temperatures and over all drivability is huge. Especially since I drive up into the passes of Colorado all the time. Constant WOT and at 144k miles on my 14 V10 I've had no issues.

Have used good tuners before and loved the results. Would love to use this one on my new motorhome, but I'm not willing to forfeit my factory warranty. So I just slow down and downshift on the hills. The new 7.3 is a beast along with the 5.86 gears in my RV, and besides, I'm retired now and not in that big a hurry lol...
problem is, this detuning the factory does seems to be some of the problem w/ lifters failing.

I use very similar systems for my Triumph race only, and my Harley. They're both different companies and work amazingly well, and simple to use.

I did V10 a few weeks ago. Awesome power, better shifting, and 10-12% increase in MPG. Added bonus, speed limiter now set at 120Mph. Get one and pass the 18 wheelers going up the hills, be at highway speeds when you get down the ramp and ready to pull onto highway.

I installed the 5Star tuner on my 12 Tiffin. Runs much better shifts better and like others have commented its much quieter. Has anyone installed the Banks Cold air intake? I would like to install headers but we live in CA and dont want to mess with the whole smog BS

My 5 star tune on a 2018 Jayco Alante 29s with 6.8 L V10 seems to be very aggressive downshifting when not in tow haul mode and going down a hill with engine brake. When it drops down and running 4250 rpm’s, is there a way to increase to next gear? My other older Rv was this way in tow/haul but not so much in normal mode.

Yes it could null the warranty so just put tune back to stock before service.
I’m going to pull the trigger here soon for our 22 Minnie Winnie with the new 7.3. Anyone here with a tune at elevation(Denver for myself)? Extra power up here is always needed especially with a NA motor 👍
I'm in Monument. The tune made a big difference on my 14 V10 class C 24ft. Going up I70 would about bring my transmission to max temp stock and coolant was very high too. The tune really smoothes out shifting and low down torque.
We like ours. Love the way it shifts now and I can accelerate pretty quick leaving the stop light. I joke with Missy about racing the car/truck at the light… they don’t want none of this.. LOL.
Bad news is can’t do headers without LS modifications. I wanted the extra 40 ponies
40 more HP would be awesome.

The exhaust kits are from Banks but is also sold by 5star. Give 5star a call they will lead you in the right direction.

People say they see some improvements but it is not something we can promise because there are too many environmental factors that play into mileage.
@@5startuningtech232- I just received mine this morning. I'll be installing it tomorrow and testing with a full tank as well. I didn't buy for better MPG but if there are some improvements I'll take it! I'm looking forward to the extra grunt at low RPM, my rig is only 29'10" so lighter than typical F53's, maybe I'll see some improvement.

Does it effect ability to still use the Tow/Haul button? Especially coming down steep grades?
We actually make that engine braking a little better so yes you still want to use that Tow/Haul button.
That does it, I'm moving out of California! They'll probably make it illegal to tune your EV too. I did add a supercharger to my 2003 F250, V10 and it was quite nice, and CARB approved. My son has a Volvo T5 and found a guy who has tuners, not CARB approved, works great. SHHH. SCT has been around a long time.

I have had a couple different tuners on a couple different trucks, I will say they are outstanding as far as power and even fuel milage, the only downfall is if you have to have your motor worked on for warranty you have to make sure and return it to stock mode, because they can void your warranty because you have tuned it, and some have told me they can read the computer on the truck and tell I had tuned it and then returned it to stock, so In other words becareful using these tuners!! Just a word of advise, but hell I used them more than once !! Lol
Tunes do leave crumbs so you are correct they can be detected even if put back to stock. The good thing is that the service tech really needs to look for those crumbs. I've done lots of tunes on overlander and off road trucks even during warranty and never had an issue at service once I retuned to stock. The odds are even most favorable for motor homes since Ford dealerships do not like to service the f-53 chassis. Odds are service will be 3rd party who most likely will NOT be looking for a tune

You want to make sure you return it to stock when you take it in. The tune will lock the PCM and the tech will think your computer is bad. It doesn't void the warranty but it is up to your dealership.
Are you running a gas motor in your motorhome or diesel? The tuneup sounds like it’s for gas?

We have a 2016 Itasca Class C motorhome, it's on a Ford E350 chassis with a Triton 5.4L V8, please develop and sale a tuner for that engine if you are reading these comments 5star.

IZZY, One area that wasn't covered was EPA? I don't even know if it applies but they have cracked down on many devices and they can see your history even going back to the Cal setting. Headers may be an unapproved modification for road use and be required to undo, all contributing to emissions and it may not show up until the unit sale or a MV inspection. Back in the day we would advance the timing for some of these improvements. Looks good but the OEM may have needed to set the system using these parameters, will your warranty be effected?
Any mod you do will effect warranty. We are out of factory warranty so it does not matter to us.
@@EndlessRVing Agree, but with all the defeat devices it may effect this down the road with EPA, why is it not allowed in Cal? That would be a red flag especially us in NJ as we follow them closely for emission regs.
We can't sell to California yet because of CARB but we do follow all of the EPA guidelines.

I've researched the 5Star before and the more involved engine tuners (people) out there seem to have de-bunked most of the 5star claims. One of those dudes over on Thor's forums did get close to 50hp/100tq over stock but that took dozens of hardware changes along with custom turning.
I was in the drivers seat. The difference in power and hill climbing is significant
What about going downhill in the tow/haul mode?
Most tunes delete the tow/haul mode. So you would loose the engine brake capability for down hill descents using the tow haul mode.

Unfortunately we do not have support for the diesel pushers. There is a company called Ag Diesel Solutions that makes a module for most diesel applications.
Do they do Cummins Diesels?
I seriously doubt it. If they did I would highly disregard it. Tunes on Cummins engines are heavily hardware dependent and should only be done by a certified Cummins service center. They can run your VIN number and tell you specifically what your options are if any.
Unfortunately we do not do Cummins.

Yes
We are EPA compliant just not CARB compliant yet.
Can you still use 87 octane gas or do you have to go to 89 .
A good question for 5-Star. It depends if the timing was changed. The tune on my truck (V8) advanced the timing and requires high octane gas (91-93). Bit more expensive on the gas price but the raw performance increase was incredible. My tune is not 5-Star but the concept is the same.
We are using 87 but yes a good question for 5 star. On my Ram I have a more advanced tune and more mods which require higher octane fuel but a massive performance gain
Stay on 87. Alot of times we see 89 having issues because it is the oldest gas in the tanks. People usually opt for the 87 or premium when they fill up. Fresh 87 is better than stale 89 any day.

Headers AND exhaust right, slamming more air into a single pipe doesn't mean it will exit quickly, I ordered the tuner for my 2016 Fleetwood Flair 29T for delivery tomorrow so I'm looking forward to seeing the torque improvement down low. However, adding headers to the single exhaust makes zero sense considering the length of skinny pipe it has to travel.

@@EndlessRVing- Snarky response to a fact, I'm not wrong and Banks would agree. I'm sure Banks tested the heck out of it and decided to keep costs down he would keep it single exhaust. An engine is an air pump and if you increase the exit of exhaust gases from the engine and dump it into a skinny pipe the max gains aren't achieved, period. For me and I understand I'm not Banks, just a guy who has been building and drag racing cars for 40+ years so what do I know, if I went headers I would also go for a proper way to use them.

Get the Banks
I tried this unit not much difference in power. Better shifting was about it. This unit is not allowed in California, so it makes no sense definitely hurt on the hills. After 7000 feet does not work at all. Makes the motor home run worse. 5 start tuning is not a very good way to go for $500.

The 5 Star tune is good but folks need to keep this in mind:
1) It voids the warranty so remember to put it back in stock before Service if still in warranty period.
2) if you often drive in mountains, the tune deletes the engine brake capability with the tow/haul mode.
Otherwise it’s a big improvement with the V10 and a moderate improvement with the V8
Actually the tune does not void the warranty and the engine braking is more aggressive than stock. You want to return the rig to stock because it locks the ECU and the shop will think it is bad and want to replace it.
The 5 Star tune on my 2017 E450 works great. The transmission shifts better, doesn’t downshift at the slightest hill like before. The engine braking still works in tow haul mode. The mpg is the same as with the stock tune.
A sucker and his money are soon parted!
And then your engine blows up because some small company thinks they can outsmart OEM spending millions of dollars on proper engineering.

@@EndlessRVing don’t need to I’ve done this many times. OEM engineers compromise performance for longevity. You can’t have your cake and heat it. Tuning will stress the motor No matter how you think otherwise. It will also void your factory warranty.
I disagree. Manufacturers have to side on the side of emissions to get their engines compliment in all 50 states. There is always more power left without hurting reliability. .
