Applesauce makes cake very moist. I use it all the time with boxed cake mixes. The sweetness of your apples wasn’t enough because the chocolate overpowered it. Start measuring mama!
Just use apple sauce next time. It will cut your prep time in half. You added too much baking powder. That's what gave it the funny bitter taste. You have to measure baking powder. You can't blindly dump it in. It easily overpowers.
@heidiheisele8608 One medium apple is equal to half a cup of apple sauce. The apples they used look like mediums to me so I would say substitute it with one and a half cups of apple sauce first try and see how it turns out. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Yeah, if you're thinking "Oh well I love chocolate, so an extra 3/4s of a tablespoon of cocoa powder will just make it more chocolatey!" then you should stop and eat a spoonful of cocoa powder and see how good it tastes on its own lol. You're not adding an extra bar of sweetened milk chocolate, you're adding a big extra spoon of dry bitter powder.

I have to have a very bland diet. My son and husband got used to it. I offered to make them a regular meal but they said we will it what you have to eat. Except for dessert. When they were small I told them why I had to eat very bland. Plus I have to be careful with sugar.

With baking you have to follow the recipe precisely. It's not like cooking where you can just dump stuff in. With the cocoa level off the measurements. You can add a touch of dark agave nectar to sweeten. I like the taste better than regular sugar. If you want to try it vegan you can use half of a banana per egg as the egg replacement or just take the eggs out because apples are an egg replacement too in baking.
You didn't fail Momma! The recipe did, it's missing the part where you put in 3 heeping tablespoons of sugar and when cool a dusting of powdered sugar. I say redo it with the corrections! Yeah! Win Win and Yum❤

If you will like to add a teaspoon of vanilla and instant coffee that will help too. Try your apples first to see how sweet they are. A very good applesauce can be used too, as other people have suggested. Baking powder will make the cake raise but a little goes a long way. With the amount of ingredients on this recipe I will say about a 1/2 teaspoon. Don’t give up, just try it again and I will use a Dutch process cocoa powder, it is darker and tastes more chocolatey and I believe is more alkaline than acidic if I’m not wrong. Hi guys! I have an easy, really good Swiss Steak recipe It has been handed down in my family. Please try it. It’s not a joke. My family loved it. 😋 Beer and Ketchup Swiss Steak 4-6 tenderized steak fillets. (steaks that were put through a tenderizer machine at the store) Flour for dredging steaks Salt and pepper 2-3 ounces of oil, add more if needed 12 ounces of beer of your choice 12 ounces of Ketchup of your choice Oven proof pan or skillet Salt and pepper both sides of steak. Dredge through the flour Add oil to oven proof pan or skillet and heat up until it is hot enough to fry steaks. When oil is hot, brown steaks on both sides. Take meat out of pan and put to one side. Add 12 ounces of beer and 12 ounces of ketchup to pan. Mix well. Scrape bottom of pan to get all of those flavor bits into sauce. Add steaks back into pan. Make sure they are covered with sauce. Put the oven proof pan into 350 degree oven and bake uncovered for 30-45 minutes until cooked through. Serve with mashed potatoes or rice 💗Hope you enjoy one of our family’s favorite dish from Southern Indiana💗

Back then ketchup generally came in 12 Oz glass bottles. So I left bottle out of the name so people wouldn’t be dumping 38 or more ounces of ketchup in the recipe. 😱 Btw, Swiss Steak can come with a brown sauce or a red tomato based sauce.
It was too much cocoa powder for the sweetness the apples could support. You could always add a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup on top if it isn't sweet enough, but they did look good 😊

You can add in additives Like nuts or peanut butter at this stage I like using chunky peanut butter from time to time and add dime size dollops into the batter, microwave for approx 1:20 -1:40 minutes and enjoy! best served with ice cream but can be ate alone and is great way to only having 1 brownie when u don't want to bake a whole sheet of them super quick and easy too! I made mug cakes and the recipe I had there were no eggs. On one mug 3 tablespoons of good cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons of sugar (I used dark brown because of the chocolate) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons of flour 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 3 tablespoon of oil. I uses olive. I also added room temp chocolate chip that was shack in flour so they don't all go to the bottom and my daughter crust oreos in hers too with reeses pieces. It goes in the microwave for a 30seconds of time until done. I think mine was done in a one minute. I bet this is faster and taste 100% better. ❤❤❤😊😊😊

To keep it healthy All you needed was to add a sweetener like organic maple syrup or monk fruit or stevia or coconut sugar. That would give it just enough sweetness to it. But no white granulated sugar that’s bad for you. Stay healthy mama and Josh and make it again with one of those sweeteners I listed. Good luck 👍 😊
cakes sink in when they are over mixed, also you could add some vanilla and maybe 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar to help the bitterness of the coco powder
Definitely cut back on the cocoa powder, because cocoa powder can be bitter. I'm a baker. Don't do the overheating tablespoons, and make sure your apples are nice & sweet. I promise, this comes out very nice. I don't use the baking soda, and it deflating is completely normal for all flour less cakes. ❤

It does sound weird but it is so good it taste sweet from the bread and a little saltey or like tangy from the mayo but it is so good and u can use whatever type of bread and mayo please try it🙏

I made mug cakes and the recipe I had there were no eggs. On one mug 3 tablespoons of good cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons of sugar (I used dark brown because of the chocolate) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons of flour 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 3 tablespoon of oil. I uses olive. I also added room temp chocolate chip that was shack in flour so they don't all go to the bottom and my daughter crust oreos in hers too with reeses pieces. It goes in the microwave for a 30seconds of time until done. I think mine was done in a one minute. I bet this is faster and taste 100% better. ❤❤❤😊😊😊

Try it with level tablespoons of cocoa. Although I agree, when it comes to chocolate, more is better, that’s not true with this recipe. Love you guys!

To keep it healthy All you needed was to add a sweetener like organic maple syrup or monk fruit or stevia or coconut sugar. That would give it just enough sweetness to it. But no white granulated sugar that’s bad for you. Stay healthy mama and Josh and make it again with one of those sweeteners I listed. Good luck 👍 😊

cakes sink in when they are over mixed, also you could add some vanilla and maybe 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar to help the bitterness of the coco powder

Definitely cut back on the cocoa powder, because cocoa powder can be bitter. I'm a baker. Don't do the overheating tablespoons, and make sure your apples are nice & sweet. I promise, this comes out very nice. I don't use the baking soda, and it deflating is completely normal for all flour less cakes. ❤
you have to follow the recipe when you bake. You doubled the cocoa powder! Try it with 3 proper tbs of cocoa. ♥
