Better quality clothes AND household goods can be found in resale shops. Part of their durability is also that, prior to our “everything is disposable/replaceable” mentality, people took better care to preserve what they purchased. “Waste not, want not.” 😉

Just returning from a lovely five days in Charleston SC and heard about the shooting in Maine. My husband and I spent four beautiful day's in Ogunquit Maine in September and just loved the area and people .

Dear Linda; Your Nantucket family is well known as founding fathers of New Bedford . Coffin Street is close to my neighborhood. 😊 The ham needs long slow cooking. Some simmer it , change the water to get the salt out. A soup was usually made next day after a main meal use. Then it falls apart with a long cooking and the flavors are wonderful from any vegetables that are added from the left overs . Mashing them in the broth and adding more fresh then simmer for hours .
I'm so disappointed!! I wanted to see you in the black & white dress! All of your other items looked great, this was a really fun video!

Yes, Linda, I agree. Malls are changing, and Macy's along with them. I don't like it either. Very disappointing.
Willow is a sweet girl! LLBean is my favorite = I use their credit card and earn points towards purchases. I save them up and get something each Christmas. And Talbots is my go to store. You can take the girl out of New England but you can't take the New England out of the girl!

Looking from your front door through the fall mums and beyond , looks like a painting!!! The colors look so soft, its almost unreal. I can't imagine being so blessed to sit there and watch the sun coming up. Love the recipes. The soup reminds me of one I make , but I use ham hocks which really flavor the broth... and I add cabbage at the end. Your son did an amazing job with Willow. That she didn't budge when he threw her duck was incredible! Very focused!
Poodles are very smart so it’s not surprising Willow responded quickly.
Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one that just out of the blue started having panic attacks when using escalators! Like you I don’t know where that came from. I was at this mall one day and I got to the escalator to go down and I couldn’t move, I just froze and panicked. There were two men behind me who were so kind and said, can we help you. And each one took my an arm and comforted me to the bottom. I was so grateful for their kindness. Afterwords I took the elevator back up. Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos Linda! 💕

As a very young child, my mother gave me a little push to get me onto the down escalator...and I did a face plant...and surfed down on my belly, while she stood at top...LAUGHING! Yep, PTSD attack everytime I get on the down escalator! The up section allows me to stomp on and run briskly up to top...but I FREEZE when its time to get on the down side ...so I find the elevator to go down!

Hi Linda! I do not care for escalators at all! The view from your yard is beautiful. We are at our peak here in Northern NJ and I'm trying to savor every moment of it. the escalator fear is not a fear, but probably an inner ear thing. if the inner ear is off then your feel off balance and even the tiniest shift will give you a sense of fear because your brain is perceiving you may fall. going up it you naturally look up and that slight shift could do it. try looking straight ahead or slightly off to one side and keep your head as level as possible and see if that helps.

I don't care for escalators either. Going up isn't too scary for me but getting on to go down is hard - so I understand. Enjoyed your video and your new clothes are great. Love quality over quantity because I love classics. Take care!
Yes quality vs quantity I wear only cashmere sweaters in our bloody cold winters and I have had som of them forever

I have the same issue with escalators- only started sometime in my 40’s but for me it’s going down-especially making that first step onto it. No idea why it started but it’s annoying.
I have the same issue. Going down is the hardest. I have to wait for a couple of steps to go around before I get on. This started about the same time I needed bifocals. I often opt to use the elevator instead.

Linda, you video is my fine living moment today. It is 10:08 pm and I’m finally taking a break. Our family had to step in and take responsibility for an elderly couple in their 90’s. One minute they seemed to be doing fine, and now not so much. They are very loving. Anyway, I’m actually having a cup of cocoa and enjoying your post. Thank you…🍁

I thought I had already made a comment on this video, but could not find it so here we go again. Lol I guess it’s a senior moment…that being said I just wanted to say what a blessing it is that you still have your mother I miss mine every day I used to call her and ask her about this and that, and sometimes I catch myself thinking I wish I could call her. She had a restaurant for 30+ years and was such a very smart, businessman woman and a great mom. Enjoy your time talking to her asked as many questions as you want to know…sending love, hugs and prayers and kindness with lots of positive thoughts. Another favorite video of mine. Thank you.❤

I enjoyed your obvious disappointment in the department store offering. I had the same reaction to all the sequins and glitz in a recent foray into Dillards in Amarillo. Shopping is going to be difficult for me until this gold and silver leaf shoe/boot phase passes. I walked around wondering, "Who's going to buy this stuff?"
Your shortbread bars look lovely. There are no signs you were a few tablespoons short of butter.
Very handsome son you have there. Mine trains dogs too. But he teaches them to herd sheep and cattle.

I’m feel the exact same way about escalators. We have some in our area that are 2, 3 levels in one. Nope! I stand in line for the elevator no matter how long that takes!

I loved daisy ham when I was a kid. My favorite was well done and stringy!!! It was always kind of fatty but so good!!
King Arthur, all-purpose flour, is what I use here in South Carolina. For self-rising only White Lily flour will do.

I absolutely love how precise, orderly, meticulous, proper, careful, etc etc etc 😉 you are with everything you do!! I think I’m naturally that way as well, however I do have 5 children ages 14-5, so I have forgotten what it’s like to live like that 🤪 for this season in my life anyway. Willow is doing so so well! What a doll!! Once again I had to drop a note just to say I absolutely love you and your videos. I watched this current one along with rewatching several of your past ones. I have chronic illnesses ( sorry to be a downer) but being able to watch you has helped me get through days that I can’t do much else that sit. Your home, your grounds… your delivery , personality ( so real!)are so welcome right now. As I’ve said before, your home to me is the most beautiful I have seen on ideas I’ve watched. Loved this. I had a wee giggle when I saw the fanny bag. In Australia fanny means something else 😂. I have panic attacks going up and my phobia started at age 15. I was on a long steep escalator with school and had a panic attack.
I looked it up and had a little giggle myself. Funny how the same word means different things ( or body parts lol)

If you're a little short on butter in the future....think coconut oil.
I wonder if the meat needed to simmer a lot longer? I know when I cube meat in the crock pot it takes almost all day for it to soften and start to 'shread.' Otherwise, the stew looked great....and so did the shortbread bars. Yumm!

Hi again! I had to pause for my granddaughter, but I’m watching again. Tip for softening butter: use a glass dome (cloche) heat with very hot water, hot as you can stand. Dry and place dome over butter on a plate. After a couple of minutes, you’ll have soft butter 😊

I so enjoyed this, Linda. Thank you for taking us outside with you for the sunrise with all of the NE fall colors in view...and the solitude if offered. The food, both the shortbread and the stew, look delicious. And I have to agree...buying clothes is a struggle with what is available---too much trendiness vs classic styles, and the quality is lacking, even with brands we used to be able to count on for that. The stores you shared are still some of my go-to places. But, I continue to thrift/hunt online for the quality-made clothing of times past. Thanks again for this respite from a busy several days...it was good for my soul. 🤎🍁🧡

I can trace my dislike of escalators back to my child. One time while shopping with my sister and sister-in-law, they were each holding one of my hands while getting on the escalator. Problem was, one got on and one didn’t. So I was being dragged up the escalator by my sister, and being held back by my sister-in-law‘s. It’s one of those family stories that loves to get repeated. 😊 I too am purposely shrinking and in need of new clothes. I’ve also been investing in timeless pieces that are high-quality. I love your new jacket. I wonder if the upper pockets are hand warmers? I know that’s what I would use them for.❤ BTW - if you’ve never read the story of the founder of L.L. Bean, you should give it a try. As a businesswoman, I found it really fascinating.
