  • I hope you like photo etch! The Centurion 5/1 Deluxe edition. It's pretty good... You get a nice 3D printed mantlet, which is a nice orangey colour. There's a lot of photo etch in this kit... Not really Herbert's favourite thing, but the model has still ended up looking pretty good. And it was mostly fun to build!

    Thanks for not taking shit so seriously... and sharing interesting pieces, and sizes. Ugh, if I don't have to see another tiger or panzer 4/5/12/P/T/W build I'd not complain.

      Tigers and panzers are fun and all, but there really are so many different interesting things out there.

    I know you're going to impress us by painting the centurion in the Berlin urban camo

    • @HerbertErpaderp

      But then people would get all butt blasted because Australian Centurions never wore that camo. Maybe it's a good idea.

    The drive sprocket teeth didn't line up on the Vespid 1/72 Leopard I built either 🔧
    Nice build Herbert 👍
    I also ended up with one link to many on the Vespid 1/72 Tiger 1.....Im seeing a pattern 😄

    The end result looks very good. 🤘 But I am wondering about the "solid speech" in the video. Was there on twitch when you build this most of the time. Encountered a more "colourful speech" there. 😅

      TH-cam is for babies and gets all sad if you use the no-no words too much. Also, by the time I'm actually making the video I'm a lot more calm.

    That would be a nice build in 1/35 but you did a fantastic job in 1/72. Never seen this manufacturer before I am an avid fan of your channel I like the way you dont take things too seriously

      Vespid is one of the best new manufacturers in 1/72. Crazy detail with all the fixings! (Metal barrel, PE, some Resin parts, etc.) These Chinese companies (Vespid, Takom, Meng, Border, Galaxy, etc.) are seriously upping the bar for quality at this scale.

    • @HerbertErpaderp

      Vespid are pretty new. They've only got a handful of kits out at the moment, but I think they're pretty great. Even if the kind of photo etch here is more something you'd expect in 35th scale.

    So Herbert. Is this a medium tank, a heavy cruiser tank or a main battle tank? And whats the difference between earlier and later marks?

    • @HerbertErpaderp

      It can be whatever it wants to be! I believe Centurion is considered the first MBT. As for the differences, I couldn't say... I do know the Mk.1 had an interesting turret with a smaller (20mm?) cannon next to the main one.

    Do you think kits like this prahaps have too much detail? If an experianced modeler like yourself is having issues with it, it's only gonna get harder for newer modelers.

    • @markfergerson2145

      It’s in 1/72 scale so details are going to be near microscopic. The alternatives for the manufacturer are to pretend they don’t exist, or to mold them in as indistinct blobs the way they made 1/35 scale kits years ago. Neither sounds very motivating, as in motivating me to buy the kit, to me. Which would you prefer?

    • @1Izaak

      @@markfergerson2145 Sure, but if you're leaving off, breaking or damaging that detail it starts to become counter intative, surely.

      Honestly I like the challenege. If you want a simple build, companies like Trumpeter and Hobby Boss make tanks with very few parts and simple details in 1/72.

    • @1Izaak

      @@Larry-Lobster I do too. I didn't watch the stream, but Herbert sounds so frustrated at points.

    • @HerbertErpaderp

      I wouldn't say it's too much detail in general. It might be too much for some though, I suppose. There are people with more patience, steadier hands and better eyesight than me that might have no problem with this kit. It's definitely not for starters, but I think it's great that kits with this much detail are being made.

    What is the point of photo esch ? It is fiddley and a pain having to use super glue to fix it . The parts could be just as easily replicated in plastic without the hassle and once painted you'd never know the difference . l was interested in this kit by the abundance of PE put me off . Also please don't get me started on individual track links in !/72 scale .

    • @HerbertErpaderp

      I think the main reason for photo etch is parts that are too thin for plastic. I'd imagine stuff like the mesh on the turret basket would look really chunky in plastic. That said. a lot of it could be plastic too.

    • @clouddog2393

      Hi Herbert . The only photo etch l use is on the rear deck covering the ventilators and items like the turret basket you mentioned . The other parts l scratch build or substitute parts in plastic as l can't be doing with the bending .super glueing and the difficulty of fiddling with tiny photo etch parts . Shame as l fancied building this kit . Take care and l enjoy the videos .

    Nope. Nope. Just nope. I love me an Australian Centurion, but there’s just too many small, fiddly parts. I’m the wrong side of 55 to be able to see most of those parts, let alone cut, trim and assemble them! I do have the Battlefront 15mm ones in my review stash. I think I’ll stick to those…

      I can definitely understand how you feel. I'm a bit younger, but getting there myself. The Battlefront ones should be awesome too.
