    Solid list. Let me run down mine:
    1) The birth of the alien in Alien.
    2) Christopher Walken's gold watch speech in Pulp Fiction.
    3) Dean Stockwell lip-syncing In Dreams in Blue Velvet.
    4) The reveal of Keyser Soze at the end of The Usual Suspects.
    5) Looking up from a low angle at Count Orlock as he creeps across the ship in Nosferatu.
    6) Leatherface's first appearance in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
    7) Willem Dafoe's death in Platoon.
    8) Alfred seeing Bruce Wayne alive at the end of The Dark Knight Rises.

      +benway20 I forgot about that scene in Blue Velvet! I think I prefer the ending of that scene though; when Hopper screams "I'll fuck anything that moves" then disappears. You never see that kind of ballsy editing in American movies anymore, they all have to be so damn polished.

    Great video and picks. #2 is probably my #1, and the but of that scene that captures the surrealness of it is when Kilgore uses his arms to mimic the waves breaking in opposite directions. His guests are terrified of the carnage around them, but he has become so infected with war that he takes equal pleasure in the beauty of the ocean and the smell of napalm.

    • @SeaTac411
      @SeaTac411  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +plumlogan And the part after they land when Kilgore keeps talking about surfing even when mortars are falling feet away from him. I don't know if you have seen the movie Little Big Man (1970); but in that film Colonial Custer acts just like Kilgore. All of his troops are getting slaughtered and he is completely oblivious to whats actually happening.

    • @plumlogan
      @plumlogan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sean McDougall And the surfers are bailing out with mortars landing - amazing. I haven't even heard of Little Big Man, but I'll look into it. The other movie I need to see, which I came across recently, and you listed here, is The Third Man.
      Anyway, thanks for another great vid. Keep it up

    the nowhere to run scene in the Warriors is such a great scene, in glad it was up there in consideration. I also love the train ride at the beginning of the film, it shows every personality of each character in only a few moments.

    I always love your videos. Happy to be a subscriber.
    One scene (or sequence rather) that has always stuck with me is the part of The Thief of Bagdad where Abu steals the All Seeing Eye. There's no talking and a whole lot of atmosphere and suspense. It's wonderful even if the giant spider is a little cheesy now.

  • @davidlean1060
    @davidlean1060 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The scene in Predator is made even better by the metallic whirr of the empty machine gun after they shoot up the jungle. It creates tension, it's a contrast to the noise of the shooting and it hints at the fact that the fight with the Predator has become an obsession. Mac is now so entranced, he forgets he's even got his finger on the trigger! Brilliant! That scene does so much for the drama of the story.

    You teased me with the shot of Micheal in retrospect, where he realizes all the damage he's done to "protect the family," what an unbelievable movie moment that is.

    • @SeaTac411

      I once read a review where that one shot had more meaning than the entirety of Godfather 3. I have to agree with that.

    Good list: If I had to choose (and in no particular order:)
    1. The final confrontation in the movie "Aliens." The cargo bay door opens and we see Ripley clad in the frontloader looking all business. The battle between her and the Queen Alien seems as epic as a fight between entire armies!
    2. Jack Burton's killing of Lo Pan in "Big Trouble in Little China." At first it seems like a cheap shot and an anticlimax, but then you realize the genius of it--that Lo Pan was brought down as much by his own hubris as he was by Burton's magic-enhanced reflexes.
    3. The poison duel between Vizzini and Wesley in "The Princess Bride". Clever and highly quotable. Another good example of a villain being defeated by his own hubris.
    4. The Lord of Darkness stepping out of the mirror and appearing to Lily in "Legend". Tangerine Dreams, dark, electronic fanfare really adds to the seductive surrealness of this scene. Best Villain Entrance Ever.
    5. The final duel at the end of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." Sergio Leone really knew how to draw out a scene, starting slow and ramping up the tension until it became almost unbearable. The most awesome three minutes ever committed to film.
    6. Ralphie opening his window and looking at his now magically transformed backyard in "A Christmas Story". Childhood wonder personified.
    7. The duel between Jenner and Justin in "The Secret of NIMH". Disney produced many cartoons with villain fights, but they always pussed out, having the villain fall of a cliff or turn into a monster before being killed. But Don Bluth was having none of that shit, producing an animated fight scene that was as visceral and as brutal as any real life fight would have been.
    8. The "I Believe in America" scene from the opening of "The Godfather". Encapsulates the philosophy of the film and is rife with masterful symbolism.
    9. The scene from "Citizen Kane" where Bernstein (one of Kane's business managers) muses about the nature of memory, describing a girl he once saw in a crowd whom he still thinks about, even after 50 years. Just about every scene in Citizen Kane is iconic, but this obscure scene really sticks out for me for some reason.
    10. The final scene in the movie "Amadeus" where Salieri is being wheeled through the insane asylum, after declaring himself the "Patron Saint of Mediocrities" A moving and poignant ending to a lush and beautiful film.

    • @SeaTac411
      @SeaTac411  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +theproplady Nice picks, I pretty much had to leave out Carpenter and Leone movies because they would have just dominated my list. I also loved the scene in Amadeus where Salieri describes Serenade For Winds. It shows how much he loves the music but at the same time showing how soul crushing it is because he knows he will never be able to make music like that. Too bad Tom Hulce didn't get an oscar for the movie it should have just been a draw between him and F. Murray Abraham.

    My top 10:
    1. Bridget Von Hammersmark introduces Landa to the Basterds posing as Italians
    2. Alex Murphys' hand getting shot off in Robocop
    3. Snake Pliskken being briefed' by Lee Van Cleef in Escape from NY
    4. Bubbles using a rod to fish out his fix from some street dealers in 'The Wire'
    5. The severed horse head under the sheets in The Godfather
    6. "Funny how?'
    7. Rupert Pumpkin's first visit/attemp to meet Jerry Langford
    8. Mc Gready offering Childs a bottle of gazoline (?) to drink
    9. Vincent Vega saving Marcelus Wallace's ass at the pawn shop basement.
    10. "Whadayasay I buy you a cup of coffee" from The Heat.

    Good list, my top ten would be, in no particular order
    1) Rocky Balboa being offered the title shot against Apollo Creed.
    2) Indiana Jones saving his father in The Last Crusade.
    3) The epic car chase in The Blues Brothers.
    4) George McFly finally standing up to Biff Tannen in Back To The Future.
    5) Deep Impact, the smaller comet hitting the Earth, a bit morbid I know but it shows you may win the war but at a heavy cost
    6) The battle scene, if you can call it that, from the original War Of The Worlds.
    7) Enemy At The Gates, when Vasily Zaitsev finally gets the Nazi sniper Erwin König in his sights.
    8) When Blade first appears at the vampire's nightclub and all hell breaks loose.
    9) Commando when Matrix dangles Sulley over a cliff, then you know the rest. lol
    10)Terminator when Arnold says the classic line.

    1. Layla scene in Goodfellas
    2. Introduction to Batman in the Dark knight
    3. Opening to Apocalypse now
    4. You talking to me in Taxi Driver
    5. Call it in no country for old men
    6. Show me the way to go home in Jaws
    7. The bit in Les Miserables where the leader of the revolution is killed stood next to his mate
    8. Breakup scene in American psycho
    9. Here's Johnny in The Shining
    10. I coulda been a contender in On The Waterfront

    Except for Rodney's entrance in Caddy Shack (Entrance was misspelled in your video btw), which was epic, your other choices left me cold brother. Oh well, to each his own.

      +KuspeMusic It was great. It was all part of a two week SciFi festival that the Cinerama put on; but I will never forgive myself for missing a Predator / Terminator 2 double feature that they had. My god you're list surprised and actually shocked me. I'd didn't think you'd put in Caddyshack, Turtles, Batman or Beauty and the Beast. I know it's your favourite list, but I think you've chosen poorly. Shaw's speech in JAWS is a must for me. Have you tried to pick some more obscure moments or are these actually your own person favourites? Thirds Man, Mohicans, Apocalypse Now and Lawrence are good choices. Thought you'd have had a western moment.

    • @SeaTac411
      @SeaTac411  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +andygold007 Just wait till you get to my guilty pleasures list :) These are genuinely my favorite moments or at least the ones I could safely put on TH-cam without getting a copyright strike. I am not all doom and gloom, every film has at least one moment of brilliance weather they be a Hollywood classic or a B-movie. That scene in Caddyshack always makes me laugh, those close ups in TMNT, Batman, and Beauty and the Beast have been stuck in my brain since the first day I watched them.

    1. Everything will be okay, bills head in a spaceship orbiting the earth
    2. Dr. Strangelove, MEIN FÜRHER I CAN WALK
    3. original dawn of the dead, the montage their playing in the mall
    4. terminator, the part Arnold is gunning down cops at the station
    5. Anomalisa, when Liza begins sounding like everyone else
    6. Inglorious bastards, you're gonna take that uniform off sometime
    7. kingsmen, church fight scene (Jesus Christ, could've been better but Jesus christ)
    8. Clerks, when that guy slams the ball off the roof
    9. the big short, I met my wife through Match.com. My profile said, "I am a medical student with only one eye, an awkward social manner, and $145,000 in student loans." She wrote back, "You're just what I've been looking for." She meant "honest", so let me be honest. Making money is not like what I thought it would be. This business kills the part of life that is essential, the part that has nothing to do with business.
    10. Repo Men, car flying scene.
    definitely in no particular order, but the big short, everything will be alright, anomalisa will always resonate with me. they are beautiful moments that is very sincere. I hastily made this list, but I love all these movies I've listed.

    Having watched your other videos, I found your picks rather obscure. That said, I don't think I have the discipline to pick a top 10 scenes. I can name my favorite scene, and it too is obscure. It is at the beginning of Good Bad and the Ugly where Angel Eyes sits down at a man's table, serves himself some of the man's stew, and then glances at a photograph, and says "Is that your family? Nice family..."

    • @SeaTac411
      @SeaTac411  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +cammameil Oh ya that is a great scene; it is a great example of building tension in a movie without using any dialogue. I thought about putting in the scene where Blondie gives the dying solider his cigar in my list but it just missed the cut.

    • @cammameil
      @cammameil 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean McDougall
      I guess what didn't come across in my initial comment was that it was refreshing that you didn't go straight for the well known and obvious ones like "Say hello to my little friend" from Scarface and the like, you know, the most overly-quoted scenes in movies.
      The Blondie scene you mentioned has so many layers to it. It has the fact that the same music is playing when they discover that there is a treasure at the beginning of the movie, it has the fact that they probably got the guy killed by blowing up the bridge, and his death rattle is nothing but smoke, from the cigar that Blondie is going to have until the end of the movie. Blondie is responsible for that soldier's death in so many ways, but Blondie is still only worried about the gold, but his sympathy for the soldier feels genuine and earned. It is an interesting juxtaposition.
      I really enjoy your channel, please keep up the good work. This was delightful, thank you for making it.

    • @sandmanhh67
      @sandmanhh67 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Id suggest a great scene from the same franchise is the three way gun standoff at the end of For A Few Dollars More. The way the soundtrack builds, including that chiming watch theme which wraps and intertwines round the main theme as the two main characters pace around the corn threshing circle while fingering their guns is pure magic....and it ends with a snap. While TGTBATU is without doubt the greatest of the three greats, its always that end scene with the watch from FAFDM I remember.
      Leone definitely learned from Kurosawa how to do slow burn buildups ending in a snap shock action.
