When I first started keeping fish when I was a kid, I begged my mom to help me buy a fish tank and knowing nothing we got a 1.5 gallon tank for 2 "male" guppies (or we thought they were both male). Believing the label at the pet store you can bet how surprised we were when we saw babies. My mom, who was absolutely not buying a bigger tank, left me on my own to worry about the 1.5 gallon that wasn't even big enough for the 2 guppies in the first place. So I created a slightly bigger tank out of about a 5 gallon cheese puff container, (edit: i just realized that 5 gallon cheese puff containers don't exist lol so it was more likely about 2.5 however the thought of a 5 gallon cheese puff container is really funny) even making a place for the small hang on back filter. Still not great, but it worked for the time being until I saved up the money for a 10 gallon for the growing colony. That tank lasted years until white spot disease struck and they all passed on within 2 days lol pretty good first attempt I'd say
When I was younger, my mom went to a wedding on the Queen Mary ship and they had live betas on the table as decoration. My mom ended up questioning the bride and groom on what they planned to do with the betas afterwards and found out they were going to be “disposed of”. My poor mom ended up bringing as many as she could home and we tried to re-home them. Unfortunately I was young and didn’t know what I was doing when it came to fish care. It still pisses me off to this day that they used those poor fish as decorations.
The water bottle fish tank would be super cute as a craft project with fake fish or even just as a terrarium type thing. One time at school we did a craft similar to that where we filled a water bottle with shells and sand and then blue colored water to make a pretty ocean terrarium thingy and it did look really cool! I’m not sure where it went, I’m sure I have it somewhere, but it was really pretty. A water bottle is NOT suitable for a live fish, I’m not sure how anyone would think that’s okay unless they’re a little kid who doesn’t know any better. But it would make a cute decorative craft project with arti-fish-al animals. You could even make something like it with other animals like one designed like a garden with bug figurines in it. I think that’d be a really fun project!
It's to cute how the birds are just chilling one on her shoulder & one on the back of the chair. Reminds me of what my cats will do one will lay on the back of my chair & one will lay between my legs. 🤣
About a week ago I rescued 3 goldies (2 fancies 1 common) from some lady who was moving. She was a heavy indoor smoker, and the tank had no lid which meant there were literal ashes in it (probably mostly from her drunkenly trying to pet them, as she was drunk and still drinking when I got there). The tank is 5 gallons (I bought it along with a 10 gallon setup for $30CAD), and had this sharp resin imitation live rock decoration in it that took up about 1/3 of the space. They couldn’t even turn around without scratching against the decoration, which meant that all 3 of them are missing 3-7 scales each. The tank is so small for them that the 2 fancies have injured their tail fins so that each have 1 that’s bent at about a 45° angle. All three of them are stunted and she’s had them since they were tiny babies. Maybe a couple months old. The common has a small notch out of the front of his dorsal fin from the resin decoration, and had a small tear along the back (which has since healed). When I tested the water is was 7x the deadly amount for nitrites, and 10ppm over the harmful amount of nitrates. The “substrate” was glass beads, a few of which had cracked in half. There was random hair floating around in the tank. And just in the time span that I was there for, she put her hand in the water 15 times to pet the goldfish which is terrible for their slime coat when you do it that often and as aggressively as she did. Anyways I’m treating them right now, the common will be going to a large outdoor pond soon as the tank I have is only big enough for the 2 fancies.
@@FluffyEclairs Fair point, but the thing is aquariums are expensive where I am. $30 for a 5gal, a 10gal, 2 filters, decor, 2 substrates, 2 fancy goldfish, and a sarasa is a great deal. Her texts were borderline incoherent so I don’t doubt she was drinking heavily then too. I needed the 10gal so I was happy to pay. I sold the 5gal for $5 and the rest I tossed in to another aquarium I sold got an extra $10 out of it. I still use the filters (with new pads). If I had tried to bargain I worried she’d stop responding or it’d take long enough that the post got taken down for animal sales.

When I was in my senior year of highschool I pissed off a bunch of the girls that did our "senior prank". I didn't know what they were doing. I was too uncool to be involved in that kind of thing. But I went to the bathroom and screamed cause there were goldfish in all the toilet bowls. Like three little goldfish in every toilet. I still have a grainy photo somewhere on my computer from when I snapped a pic with my crappy little flip phone to show a teacher in case they didn't believe. I went and told a teacher right away because... there were fucking fish in the toilets. Turned out it wasn't just the girls bathroom that was hit. ALL the girls involved were pissed at me though for "ruining" the senior prank. Like... wtf? That memory immediately jumped to mind with the whole "pranking their boss by making a tank in their desk" thing.
When it comes to large goldfish in small aquariums i believe that the peapole that by them belive they will not be larger than 5 centimeters. Which i do not blame oppon the coustumer, but on the marketing. I have found small "aquariums" that contains goldfish or even clownfish on the box because that is popular.
The cups are actually how they sell beta fish in pet stores here in the US. Those actually look a little bigger even then what they’re usually sold in here. They sell them like that in petsmart, and their containers are literally the same size as the algae cups
My family and i have been to petsmart we've seen fin rot and them dying in the cups like on the edge of death, we asked some employes if they agree to it and they say i'm not the manager but if they were they would change it
The "axolotls can walk out of water if started young" actually is making me so undescribably angry rn. Google is free. People really think it's soooo cute to abuse animals
Speaking of fish, today me and my family went to the state fair and I saw a game where you could win LIVE fish. I thought that was so mean to do that to them.
My local wetland reserve (state funded wildlife education center) kept their snapping turtle in a tank that couldn’t have been more than 2ft by 3ft. He couldn’t turn around in that space. It was insane. The tank was literally empty except for the turtle. Like, the only things in there were water, the turtle, a filter, and some fish to eat. He lived in there for 10 years or longer last time I checked. I imagine he’s not there anymore, and I have a feeling the place likely got shut down due to budget cuts. Pretty much every wildlife education center in our area (WI, USA) is bad. Every single one has their taxidermy built up with decades of dust and cobwebs. It’s HELL over here for these living educational mascots and I wish they’d never had existed. Hauling them around to show children and then shoving them in awful enclosures to slowly die over the span of 15 years. The one my school visited most often had a macaw that could mimic whose cage was out in the open and he would be harassed by children on the daily. I’m so glad he’s passed away now, after years of constant torment. He didn’t deserve that.
At my school we have to slider turtles and they were put in a lizard terrarium.then i though it couldn't get worse because the tank only had gravel and a bit of water, they couldn't swim or dry after being in the water. They had no heater ir anything.after a few months they put them in a 2 gallon aquarium and they could not eave turn around and the had to stay on two legs to breathe air and couldn't move......me and my friend asked one of the teachers to buy them a bigger tank but she said that we don't know anything about turtles and that we are just kids........animal abuse is more common then u think😭
WTF, kids not knowing anything about turtles? Bro, that teacher should fact check herself, she'll find out rather quickly that turtles want big space, lots of water and a dry space. Why is it that kids are smarter than their teachers nowadays ;/
@@zarchitaffy1802 Yeah, just getting the whole setup and then food, that might be very expensive. I'm not sure why your school thought owning a pair of turtles was a good idea anyway lol
Idk they had this "eko corner" for a long time it was just a bunch of plants you could check out but then then they thought that it would be a good idea to add those poor turtles in
Gosh there's a park by my house and went to walk there for a bit and saw a wedding set up, that had no one supervising it. It was super hot that day and we saw little bowls of goldfish, sadly most were already dead. The wedding hadn't even happened yet.
I remember many years ago me and my family went to a family party and the gold fishes looked red, blue, white color is it normal? and with a small round tank and we took it and it died it I was very young what to do with a fish with a bad tank
Hi soda! Ive been getting into pet care recently, I want to get a new starter pet, dont know which tho. I read alot about axolotls, but i really want a cat, and im scared if i get birds like budgies that the cat will harm them. Which animal do you think is a good starter pet for me?.. I see you have birds, goldfishes and more and they almost never get hurt.
If you are asking about starter pets then you need to do more research. No pets are considered starter pets and cats are actually harder to take care of then you realise. Both inside and outside cats are different, I would recommend inside though. For inside you need to keep up to date with flea and worm treatment, possibly get your cat comfortable with a harness, play with a lot and clean the litter tray. These are only a few things that you need to do, there is more but you will find that out with enough research
I would recommend 2 rats. Do lots of research, they live a short amount of time, can be trained to do tricks, and are social. Although, there is no such thing as beginner pets
Small animals like hamsters maybe. Do alot of research beforehand tho so u know what they need and what social setting and stuff they like. Remember that all pets will need immediate care and love every so often, u can't really skip a day. Especially if you want them more tame. Cats are pretty complicated to have around, if u have someone who can help u care for it then I think thats fine, but don't do it alone. I had a cat when I was 8 and mom helped me take care of him. He became pretty tame to me that he wouldn't mind me taking a look at his paws or teeth, which pets usually hate you fiddling with xD
it depends on the person for me cats are easier to care for but i grew up with cats, make sure to get a nice tall cat tower so they can look down on the people they own ;p

@@sodapets I have excess fish from accidental breeding don't worry the fish that breed are seperated but any ways I dont know,if I should get rid of them (they're platys and that's a fast breeding fish which I wasn't planning) whats your advice on this?
@@nerdieeditz8044 I would find a local sub dedicated to fish keeping and see if anyone in the area wants some.
@@peggedyourdad9560 thankd so much I have a place for them but ive been giving them away to trusted friends and I'm not sure If theres any subs but I'll do my research
Fish have to endure so much a.b.us3 because people are not able to emphasize with them. This is why I sometimes go full misanthrope.
Those "goldfish" are smaller than tetras!

The cups are actually how they sell beta fish in pet stores here in the US. Those actually look a little bigger even then what they’re usually sold in here. They sell them like that in petsmart, and their containers are literally the same size as the algae cups
One of things I want help change about the animal care in the USA
My family and i have been to petsmart we've seen fin rot and them dying in the cups like on the edge of death, we asked some employes if they agree to it and they say i'm not the manager but if they were they would change it
They do sell beta fish in those cups. It's sad.
You should review good aquariums and what make them good
did you see a snapping turtle and red eared slider in there at some point?
The "axolotls can walk out of water if started young" actually is making me so undescribably angry rn. Google is free. People really think it's soooo cute to abuse animals
Speaking of fish, today me and my family went to the state fair and I saw a game where you could win LIVE fish. I thought that was so mean to do that to them.
I really don't understand why people get an animal just to keep them in horrific condition
Those were mystery snails related to apple snails but don't get as large also don't eat healthy plants.
Can't believe I got here this early!! Thanks for making these videos to spread awareness :)
2:13 hope that these fish don't have claustrophobia
Why is it that kids are smarter than their teachers nowadays ;/
you know sometimes just maby stealing is oke
Lol i def wuld only if i had the money to raise them.......one day maybe
@@zarchitaffy1802 Yeah, just getting the whole setup and then food, that might be very expensive. I'm not sure why your school thought owning a pair of turtles was a good idea anyway lol
Idk they had this "eko corner" for a long time it was just a bunch of plants you could check out but then then they thought that it would be a good idea to add those poor turtles in
When I went to ack’s exotic pets I saw like 9 axolotl in a dirty 15 gallon tank I was so mad
Gosh there's a park by my house and went to walk there for a bit and saw a wedding set up, that had no one supervising it. It was super hot that day and we saw little bowls of goldfish, sadly most were already dead. The wedding hadn't even happened yet.
did u steal the fish?
That's so sad
Angel fish need 50 gallon tanks but u where close
I remember many years ago me and my family went to a family party and the gold fishes looked red, blue, white color is it normal? and with a small round tank and we took it and it died it I was very young what to do with a fish with a bad tank
i honestly thought that litres was spelled leaters before right now 😂
Are pacman frogs legal or illegal in your country
At least these aren't the worst tanks.
i have a special hatred for anyone who abuses angel fish. -_- it's unlikely but i hope someone knocks some sense ito that awful owner.
There’s this channel (might be hard to find) where they put axolotls on plates with water (plastic plates) and put food in them. Wtf.
Hi soda! Ive been getting into pet care recently, I want to get a new starter pet, dont know which tho. I read alot about axolotls, but i really want a cat, and im scared if i get birds like budgies that the cat will harm them. Which animal do you think is a good starter pet for me?.. I see you have birds, goldfishes and more and they almost never get hurt.
you can have cats and birds, but i'd really make sure to keep birds in a serperate room the cat doesn't have access to
If you are asking about starter pets then you need to do more research.
I love keeping fish but i am not buying the fish which i can't give 20litre space. Specially minimum 25litre for keeping guppy and 10 ft. Tank for koi and goldfish as you don't want you fish to die.
I LOVE YOURE VIDEOS I WANT YOU TO REVEIW MY FISH TANK AND I HAVE EXSPERIANCE WITH FISH SO WHAT DO I SEND THE IMAGE TO
Do you watch Chris from Fish For Thought?
Do you feed your frogs crickets?
And can i put turtle in a pond where the food from guava tree fall in the pond every season? My pond size is 2.5metre length and 1.2metre breadth, Soil part of 5 by 7 m.
Btw were is your discort?
It makes me so sad that people are being mean to animals
Here earky love your videos!
Earky, Early same thing
I feel bad. I was one of those idiots that used fish in my wedding reception... In my defense, they were from my mom's fish tank which had an over population of guppies. I actually spent a lot of time using water from their tank and adjusting them to the table bowls. All shitty excuses, I am aware. Would never do it again!
It's ok did you know it was fish abuse but if you didn't and you only did it once then you learned your lesson

Horrible tanks
¡Oh, Dios mío, eres tan bonita! ! Y quiero decir, HERMOSO!!!
I feel so bad for the turtles cause just seeing them in such cramped tanks. I felt bad for my turtles being in a kiddie pool so we made them a pond.
Seeing this tutrtle being kept cruelly, and thisis posted publicly, and no one does anything about it? COOL! So mass murderers or child abductors should post on redit, how they keep their victims, since YOLO its a redit post and NO ONE gives a damn about the animals. SO don't give a DAMN about humans either!! Do this then ill accept that people ignore ANIMAL ABUSE right in front of them!
do u
Hii!
oh my gosh im so early hi soda

you ask how grown adults can do these things, well in my opinion age is not an indicator of intelligence !
Fish suck they are boring and uselesss.
Jk i love fish
You should collab with fish4thought, he and you both go on the sh¡ttyaquarium subreddit and you both reviewed some of the same tanks
I was also thinking about that, I think it would be a fun video.
