Your video was by far the most thorough and clearly explained. Including actual pin removal and sizes of bolts. Thanks 🤩

To make sure that the replacement rack is centered turn the rack all the way in one direction and then as you are turning it back the other way count the turns and then divide by two and use that number to turn it so that it is centered.

I removed the rack on an 01 T&C and did not remove the bottom plate. It will come out without removing it. I took off one of the tie rod ends and that made it easier but it really is not necessary. I removed the rack I bought a few times as I thought that it had been returned and put back into stock by the condition of the box it came in. I see you were also replacing the control arm or control arm bushing so that is why you dropped the plate but that can also be done without dropping the plate but hey you do what you do and I did what i did. Good video. Happy Motoring.

Were you able to snake the rack through an opening in the plate or did it come out towards one of the wheel wells? I'm having trouble visualizing it coming out with the plate in place, but your way would save alot of time and effort in the future. Thanks for watching and thanks sharing the advice!

@@ryanrepairs675 Wheel well and as I said I had it in and out multiple times. After my son helped take it out the first time I was able to take it out by myself. On the tie rod ends I just counted the number of turns coming off and put the new on one that many turns. When you finished and the wheels were not straight maybe the rack that was in the car was not centered. My replacement rack from left to right was three and a half turns so to center it, it had to be 1.75 turns from both sides. I did not have to do a wheel alignment after and it ran straight down the road. Have a good one.

@@mostlymoparih5682 As I did it on my 2005 T&C, I do not see if it possible to reconnect high and low lines to the rack without removing charcoal canister and emission box? There just no room.

I went through this ordeal already a week ago. Bought a NEW rack assembly from eBay for $170. Was OK for a week. Now leaking from rack seals. Applied Lukas Stop leak. No effect. I warn you, there fake/untested under pressure Chinese parts out there! This is most miserable DIY repair on these vans. If you managed to do it yourself, everything else in repairs will feel just fine.

Got mine at Rockauto but you are right about the chinese crap parts isn't that what CCP means? I also have a 99 Caravan that had one hundred and sixty thousand miles on it when it was given to me. A year I got it, the fuel pump went out, not bad for the OEM pump that mileage and over twenty years. I put in a Delphi pump, delphi is an American company but the box said made in chinessium. So pump went maybe ten thousand miles and a little over two years. So this year when I replaced it I got a Carter pump, also an American company and surprise, surprise it's made in the same place as the Delphi was. They are probably made by the same company over there and they are just put in differently marked boxes. Have a great day.
