I feel like most of the oneshots are fine except like widow maker, it feels so weird ina very team oriented game that I can just get headshotted and killed in somebody that is in a position that is unreachable or uninvolved, especially for characters that dont have the range to do anything it just makes us sitting ducks
Reinhardt pin can hardly be put in the same light as a one shot from widow hanzo etc. A rein pin is limited to only areas the enemy tank can reach, its only if the rein initiates charge and lands it with a wall behind you to hit you into without dying before arrival. Rein pin is avoidable with simple awareness, a widow being able to grapple into the air and hit you from half the map away is not avoidable by simple situational awareness and is opressive. A melee only character in a game focused around guns NEEDS to be oppressive in pointblank range otherwise, what value or point does it prove. If the guy with the gun wins at range and at melee, no one would play melee.
@canadaboy2503 I wasn't trying to make the case that Rein pin needs to get removed just hoping they can get rid of some of the frustrating outliers, however, I do agree not exactly an apple to oranges comparison between pin and widow
I think Reinhardt’s pin is fine just because of how much risk is involved to actively pull it off. Widowmaker and Hanzo don’t have that rule attached to their one-shot, and Hanzo in particular is even worse because of the inconsistency being in the projectile nature of the arrow itself as opposed to the skill of the player. If you wanted to go about making Reinhardt’s charge more consistent (which is what it seems like you would prefer). Then it’d probably be best to increase the size of the “cradle” and increase the cooldown of Charge back to 10 seconds like it was in Overwatch 1 to increase the risk of attempting the now more consistent charge (I’d prefer it if Charge couldn’t pull in players that were knocked back by the side pin, but that’s just a personal thing). Admittedly I think about this kind of a stuff a lot since Overwatch is my case study for college and I’m probably just yappin’, but yappin’ is fun so that’s what I’ll continue to do!
Idk I feel like it's always my fault if I die to a pin. People cried about Hog's one shot all the time but the entire point of that character is to punish poor positioning, same can be said for Rein pin. Granted the move to 5v5 just made Hog OP but to act like Hog was always a problem is just a cope, and Rein pin is so risky that a miss or poor timing can change the course of a team fight with one button press.
@DeconVO hogs hook has for sure been problematic since launch, just look at how many renditions of hook they had to do throughout the early part of the game
i think roadhog hook is too op. Its range is too far and the animation is too fast to block. ive noticed the most consistent way to avoid his pin is to jump left or right just before he pins you.
The main way to deal with hook is baiting it out and playing around the cooldown. Also try staying grouped with your team if you're going to engage a hog with hook off cooldown. I don't think it's broken but more so requires some teamwork to play around.
In short it's High risk/High reward ability that feels fair because there is a risk, while widow is Low risk/High reward. And in more detail. To be fair it is annoying sometimes, but not for its design reasons but from how clunky the game can be, it is more fair than widow one shots, the animation is readable and comes with sound cue, enough time to react and make your play, like making sure its not hitting you via moving to safe space, or use abilities, or maybe displace him so he would charge into bad position, and the charge got its maximum distance, and its ability with a cooldown, the limitations is what makes it feel fair, and when players understand that they could play it differently, they less frustrated, but in widows case its all opposite, you can't really react to her, she either miss, and then you react, or you're dead before you realise what happened, her body is so slim at distance you can't really see if she is looking at you or she looking at someone else, and there is almost no character that can contest her at range besides herself, going after her as dps, is losing battle, because in order to fight her you need to close the distance, so you'll start fight already with some abilities on cooldowns, and being in close range doesn't make her any less of threat, she still can one shot you, and she can still do damage with SMG, she doesn't even have to fight you she can just grapple away, and not like their teammates will let you go after her, its high risk low reward, because even you get rid of her, she will be back in the fight in like 12 seconds. Going dive tank to dive her is throwing the game, because 1. You'll have to leave your team without a tank 2. Their team can and will counter pick you, so you will be in disadvantage. So you/your dps go widow, and hope that your widow wins, or you lose. And so that what makes Charge one shot not annoying its that is High risk/High reward, while widows one shot is Low risk/High reward. The fact her design haven't changed since first patch of the game is insane to me.
I think she's one of thoose characters that is a problem, but has been such a constant figure that change now could dramatically effect the game and they can ignore it since most players don't play in lobbies with good widows.
@Rohandle I can think of few reasons why they don't change her. 1. They're gooners 2. They think she is in "healthy" state, since she is a sniper, which is BS. 3. Her skins sells well. 4. They afraid of widow community start bitching, when they try to nerf or change her.
Good vid! could use some work, but you will improve and get crazy mode! rein pin IMO feels like one of the best one shots, it requires a commitment and it only oneshots DPS and supports so you only really get hit with it if rein pulls out something crazy or if you as a player are out of position. The coding is a bit spaghetti but it is consistent enough not to frusterate me personally.
if u get hit by pin u deserve to lose 300hp

Hmm I haven't tried to jump out never thought of that lol, but roadhog is definitely frustrating and his rework did NOT help
