I've been saying for the duration of classic that it doesn't feel the same without Ana. She was added like 6 weeks after launch and added a third truly viable support (after Mercy and Lucio)
Even through an new support is always welcomed, i feel like she is the one who started this disaster of counterwatch, i mean she literally makes roadhog worthless or too strong (mostly this applies to mauga) depending if you have her on your team or not, also sleep arrow makes playing tank so miserable
@anstorner you had answers for Ana back then tho. If hog gets purple, zar can bubble cleanse, rein can shield him off, dva can DM. Getting value out of Ana's cool downs was a lot more difficult in 6v6
@@thepoofster2251 Good argument, i forgot about that getting targeted was alot more rare than nowadays on tank where u have an sign on your ass telling everyone to shoot and use every cooldown on you
Since ow 1, Ana has been the only reason why I keep coming back to this game. Her presence is undeniably strong in team fights. Plus you don't get to see older women in games that much which adds another charm to her design. Love her so much!
Hog only exist as he does because you couldn’t play him when they put her into the game same with how busted maugas kit is. The only recourse for anti nade was assassins being able to one shot supports (just like any other rpg type gameplay interaction ie league, Dota, etc ) but people complained about genji, doom, widow ans sombra until they just made brig and Moira and even then they complained till they basically made the game unplayable for dps. They literally put in immortality because supports can’t position and deal with consequences
Ana was the first Support with burst Healing but the difference is that you actually have to have good mechanical Skill and single target decision making. Despite some of her strong abilities in the past that caused different metas, i still think she is the most well designed Support in the History of Overwatch and there is a reason why Players love her and her gameplay loop so much. She is high Skill, high risk and high reward. 5v5 might be a reason why nade and sleep can be frustrating (esp for the solo tank) but tbh i dont think thats an Ana specific Problem (Even Zen had to get nerfed because of Discord orb being too strong on the solo tank). Its more like a format Problem that causes those issues
I don't really think it's solely a format problem but more so a playstyle problem. Tank heroes have been getting used to being impossible to kill if supported, so they make a lot more poor positioning and engagement decisions. The number of time I've seen a tank run at the entire enemy team without using cover or having an escape plan as if there wasn't 4 people targeting them, and then rage when they got bursted just comes to show how most tank players have never adapted to not having a Zarya/Dva to bail them out, and honestly without a nade, cc, orb or insane shot gun they rarely even get punished for their mistake. Playing classic I've seen so many tanks almost die instantly because they were so used to being practically invisible they took the worst positioning decision expecting the poor Mercy in their team to bail them out.
@@hyeongpinkz Ana is the most demanding Support Hero in the game (Next to Lucio and maybe Zen imo). She is the only Support Hero that actually needs good mechanical skill based around single target Healing. Juno is close tho, the only Part about her Kit that i dislike are her Torpedoes. The reason why hitting shots feels easier to do nowadays is because of the Season 9 Hitboxes and health Pools. Nade and sleep are just problematic because of 5v5 and role passives (she doesnt have to nade herself that much anymore compared to OW1) but again thats not an Ana specific Problem. The Devs have dumbed down the Game so much with problematic Hero Designs, 5v5 and Season 9 that everything in the Game feels way easier to do and way more about Play denial than playmaking.
Not going to lie, I think the healing creep throughout OW since Ana’s launch has actually been one of the worst things to happen to the game, and I see almost no one talking about it. (1) Prioritizes tanky, sustain-based compositions that have plagued pro metas for years. (2) Lowers skill curves by reducing emphasis on mechanics and positioning if mistakes can be forgiven by massive healing. (3) Necessitates burst damage by needing new heroes/abilities to be able to chunk through massive healing numbers. (4) Reduces support roster diversity by making every new support hero a heal-dumper. Sym is gone, and Lucio/zen-esque heroes seemingly won’t ever be added again. (5) Leads to in game community/social problems where healing is considered the be-all-end-all of team-building, and support players are bullied for not healing enough. (Maybe could be folded into (2)) Playing the OW classic mode the past couple weeks has really made me realize how much healing creep has (in my opinion) hurt OW. I’m not sure how the devs could reduce it, though, without completely reworking nearly every support hero added post-Ana.
I think Ana would be interesting if, instead of anti being on her nade, she had a better version of the DPS passive where she could deny up to 40% of healing for 1 second after landing a shot. So she becomes more of an assassin, lethal type support instead of one with an ability able to just deny a Zen or Queen ult. Nade could still be used in self defense but it would be more in the old style of prioritizing the self-heal instead of the anti heal and damage it has now, since her gun would provide the majority of her killing power.
Having healing as an obligation feels pretty bad, and really promotes healbotting. I wouldn’t mind seeing a general nerf to healing, and reworks for the characters that have no support identity outside of healing like bap, illari and moira
It's amazing how one character is allowed to counter literally everything, because "that's how it always was".
