  • Why So Many CEOs are from India
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word “India”?
My guess is yoga, curry, Taj Mahal, Bollywood, Cricket, and for those who know their history, Mahatma Gandhi.
Well, you’d be absolutely right to have thought about any (or indeed all) of these interesting things.
But besides all the great things that India is known for, there is a trend that is fast being associated with the world’s second-most populous country; world-beating CEOs
In case you haven’t noticed, the CEO of multiple Fortune 500 Companies and some of the world’s biggest tech companies are all Indians.
    Yes indeed!
A quick Google search will reveal a mile-long list(I might have exaggerated a bit) of CEOs of multinational companies who are all of Indian descent.
I do not think this is a coincidence or a stroke of luck.
There have to be reasons why so many global corporations are being led by Indians.
    Surprised?
Then join me as I unravel 6 reasons why so many CEOs are from India.

Strong Parents, family values with loyalty and no divorce, 5000 year old culture, blessings of our ancestors and most importantly working hard to earn what we deserve are the reasons for the success of Indians across the globe. Bravo! What a comparison!!
People at the top, which is very selective few VS bottom of pyramid, which is anyways largest in any country.
For ex- USA has 37 million people in poverty, and 10 million employers (and most small employers don't have a CEO).
So US there are more poor people than number of CEOs in US, hence US is also not doing well by your definition.
None of the countries in world are doing well.

I’m an Indian working in software field for a long time in US. We are indeed good workers but less of original thinkers. The ones who are CEOs from India mostly are original thinkers. I would say an American is good at original thinking and brave to step forward. Indian think 1000 times before making a step. That’s part of the culture. As an Indian I would ask my country men to learn from American. The spirit of entrepreneurship. The can do attitude. Celebrate failure but learn.

There's nothing special about Indians or their culture. If Indians are intellectually superior, with 1.4B people they'd win all the Nobel prizes in Physics and Medicine, they'd be the first country to put a man on Mars, the first to cure AIDS, the first to invent new technologies. They don't do any of those. They have only one Nobel laureate in STEM in the past 35 years, and he doesn't even live in India (he lives in the UK). They are good at copying ideas and doing them cheaper (like the Chinese), not at innovating

Indians too have a strong love for their motherland but they have a very pious association with their "karma-bhumi" which in simple modern terms mean "place of work". Our culture worships Karma as the highest form of human actions and Karma-bhumi at a similar pedestal as motherland. hence loyalty for our work place comes very naturally to us.

Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future. Putting our time and effort in activities and investments that will yield a profitable return in the future is what we should be aiming for. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Indian startup system is fastest growing one and would be for the next decade the pace to add unicorn is way higher than China. Also it's all about economy, China grew earlier than us as simple as that, but given the slowing economy you should not boast much about China, India on the other hand is adding 45 unicorn every year and with much higher growth predictions ahead you will see this growth to be more faster. Also Indians are the largest startup founder in USA as well. India is in the same position which you were in 2001-2005 as easy as you can understand but on the other hand India is more open to all countries and also our population will not decline that fast as it was organic growth and decline unlike the draconian law implemented by China. So believe me India is not China but much more than that.

    My take on this:
    1. India has a very long tradition of trade and business, as a continuous civilisation of 10,000-15,000 YEARS. There are castes in India who are only focused on business and nothing else--The MARWARI, BANIYAS....genetic generational development of business.
    2. Indians share the Protestant work ethic. They can work very very hard in applying themselves. In many cases.
    3. With Brahmin Hindus, they are the teachers and priests of the Hindu community, so when they go into other fields their vast knowledge in Hindu scriptures, together with Western education gives them a unique insight into how things work.
I don't know what percentage of Indian CEO'S in USA are Brahmin.
    4. India has been a very rich country for most of human history.
    5. The fact that the average Indian is very poor, and the country underdeveloped is due to the huge civil war INITIATED by Emperor Aurangazeb 1660-1761, AND THE CONSEQUENT BRITISH RULE OF India, at the tail end of the civil war based on religion.. India after 75 years is still under the colonial yoke which HINDERS ITS TRUE DEVELOPMENT, and why talented Indians take their skills outside of the country.

You are right in your assessment.
You seem Indian and I want to congratulate you for your Knowledge.
And for the part India being under a Colonial rule still after the Independence.
India is not free and no developing nation is.
Democracy is good but it comes with it flaws.
      Flaws which can be misused.
Internal Weak point can be pressed.
      Enemies can be funded.
All and all Public opinion can be changed which directly weakens the democracy.
Dictatorship is good in this regard but the chances of Dictator going rogue are not less either..
So for the most part of our Independent History,
Our buttons were being pushed by the West.
And later it was not being pushed directly but such Conditions were created that we on own had to push the buttons as the West liked.
But after 2000 I think another India started to emerge.
I say after the Pokhran Testing.
I hope good hopes for the System but I have lost hope in People.

There are some very deep factors behind this phenomenon. Yes there are many Indian CEOs and also Indians at top positions in the west. The main factor that leads to this is a very old culture and resilience that Indians have had after being plundered and looted for decades. The British (when they were colonisers, not the British Govt of today) systematically destroyed the wealth india had, and left india with a very painful beraucracy to deal with even after the country’s independence. This lead to people having no choice but to work hard, and also Indians have a deep rooted culture of respect, and hard work. I hope to see Indians always shine, and also would like to thank all the companies and countries around the world for giving Indians the opportunity to show their potential. Now hopefully india itself will have an economy at par with the biggest countries and create a model economy in the country itself.

A word from an Indian immigrant.(i came here as a foreign student in Univ. of Washington in 1958) My mother when I was a teenager, called me and gave me a lecture. She explained to me that the Indian tradition was based on our Cultural texts. The VEDAS. The word Veda translates in English to "Knowledge". People can rob you, and take all your belonging, but one thing they can not take away from you. YOUR KNOWLEDGE.
She pointed out and asked me to look at all the Fools who had come to conquer India had left empty handed. (That was Alexanders last wish per internet)
At 90 I am longing to be the next CEO. Blame my mother.
One of the Vedas was a partial product of my forefather.
That makes it worse. I have done everything my heart desired. (Giving credit to the USA)
Remember, it is not enough. Why? Because unlike mere mortals, I live in Eternity.. Many life times.
So i say to my Children LIFE BEGINS AT 90.

One is 4 pillars of living, focusing on these 4 pillars namely Dharma, artha, kaam, moksha.
Understand what you want to do (Dharma), earn your living well(artha) and enjoy your earnings (kaam) to attain a spiritually highest goals in life (moksha).
Secondly a belief that all living beings are one and Truth always wins.
