Ufc just needs to improve the women's roster in general. There's only a few good fighters in each division, bantamweight especially but after you get out of the top 5 or 6 there's literally nobodies that do not look like possible future contenders or anything. And even the top 5 ranked fighters right now are basically lambs to be slaughtered by Nunes lol. They need to find more competition already

Honourable mentions: Aldo fighting Yan coming off two losses and Romero fighting Adesanya also coming off two losses
The second of those Aldo losses was arguable. It was a close fight, but the consensus was that he beat Moraes. Still, that fight with Yan in Fight should have been Aljo (he was still respected at the time instead of a punchline for weak champs) or even Moraes himself (he officially won against Aldo and still hadn't been Sandhagen'd). And Yoel got it because there was literally no one else. Izzy had just beaten Whittaker decisively, Costa was injured, Till and Cannonier were not ready and Gastelum was on a skid as well and lower than Romero. I'd say that justifies them in a way. Not totally, but they weren't pulled out of Dana's ass

To be fair to Yoel he was extremely competitive in both fights and since Israel had already beaten Whittaker and Paulo was injured the fight happening does kind of make sense.

Plus, the way he and his wife were walking out, smiling and hugging like he wasn't knocked out or blatantly robbed, to me says a lot. Askren took a dive there knowing he had nothing to lose (he's not a boxer, his reputation in MMA is a joke after Masvidal, he has the one of the worst stand up games in the game and he has stated he doesn't care for the MMA community. Only for the wrestling one, and they weren't going to judge him if he lost a boxing match, and obviously the money from the fight and the extra money from the dive weren't exactly going to disgust him)

Zhang mostly deserved it...Because literally every other contender above her was either injured, didn't take the fight, or was already booked for different fights. Basically she just lucked into it...But she was number six and nobody else was available.

The UFC title (or any belt in combat sports) is part symbol of excellence, part promotional device. Ideally the best fighters are also the most popular but it doesn't work out like that all the time, and the promotions favor the more popular fighters. The fighters that are going to draw the best are going to get more shots at the title, whether or not they actually deserve it on merit.
