    Dear AnneLien:
    Thanks very much for your kind words. In the beginning, I used to want some kind of sign that it was time to stop and lay the cards, but nowadays it's easier to just trust that the right cards will show themselves.

    This was very helpful in answering my questions about shuffling and reversed cards. I also really appreciated the advice on how to protect and handle the cards. After watching this, I made a double sided cloth bag for my cards and put a brocade cloth in the bag as well to place the cards on to read.

    @AlexLionThe Yes, I used to wonder about that and worry a bit too, thinking I should reorganize everything. Now, I figure that the Tarot can take care of itself and that the next reading I do is going to be a logical follow-on from the last one. If there is harmony in life and the universe (I think there is) then the next reading is going to be in some kind of cooperation with the last one, so I do a quick shuffle, just to put a kind of full stop at the end of the sentence.

    @TheStfu1000 We take dreams seriously and some teach that they show underlying truths that some part of the mind already knows and understands. Picking a card is not as ridiculous as it may seem. We can be accessing this part of the mind that KNOWS the truth for us and for all and for ever. Chu Hsi taught that divination is good for us since it gets us to know what is permissible or not in our behaviour and so teaches us to be good.

    I need to get some silk. Or maybe I already have what I need. I have alot of fabric in storage.
    But I really like using this one square glass plate that I have with a pretty black and white damask pattern. I pretty much keep it there all the time and it is cleaned regularly. I deeply respect them. It is the third thing I reach for when I wake up in the morning:
    1. glasses
    2. smart phone
    3. cards

    I definitely enjoy shuffling my cards, at the moment I'm very clumsy, but I can't imagine reading without shuffling for a while. It gets me in the right mindset and I think it helps the deck and I talk for a bit before asking it for a favor. : )

    Hello. Just watched your video about your new deck. Which is better - the Fool facing the left, or the Fool going in the direction of the volcano? I think there is a difference. So I think you should cut to the left with your left hand during the shuffling. At the same time, this is what I was taught and I follow the method, but I never really thought about it, so I'll have a think and email you if I get an answer. Can you give an example of a weird reading that you got?

    Hello Sir, being italian I preferred to purchase an old glory and probably one of the very first and most complete card set: the Visconti-Yale.
    I still have to use it and I have doubts about the way to manage it, since I think it is different from the one You used in this video.
    Would You kindly give me some tips for mine and a good book for using the beautiful reissue I purchased?

    confirmation needed: tarot is really good and interesting when it comes to just understanding issues and personal issues in general and personality even as each card has a star sign/carl jung representation. but let's be honest i don't see how just drawing cards at random as you would in poker can be used to divine a person's real life future/situation?

    @johnballantrae001 Ok thankyou for your patience.I was shown in a video somewhere to arrange the cards into three piles of 13 and if i was to draw a correct facing ace in any pile then the answer would be yes.I drew an ace 1st pile on about the 5th card so the remaining 2 piles were left untouched.
    Thanks,hope this sheds some light.

    I think your seven of wands describes the youtube video's relation to youtuber's comments showing that the video is at the top ruling the topic, where the wands at the bottom (watchers) might try to prove it wrong sometimes, but they can get in off-line so the video prevail. But thats just my guess.

  • @AlexLionThe
    @AlexLionThe 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Little question: when you finish the reading, you don't reorganize the cards, putting them in order? Or just let them in the order they are when the reading is done? I've always had that doubt... sorry about the stupid question. Great video!

    • @angethedumbone
      @angethedumbone 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been taught that you can at times lay the cards in order (sort of a cleansing ritual) and let them rest as that. But as long as you have respect, and communicate with your deck, you can't really go wrong.
      They do not judge you.
      Think of them as a big sister/brother. They might get a little harsh but they care.
      I hope this is still on topic for you 9 years later. :)

    in the celtic cross does it matter in which order the 3rd 4th 5th and 6th cards a placed, coz i have seen so many different orders

  • @johnballantrae001
    @johnballantrae001  13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @rastan1977 Not much room to reply here. The method you used sounds quite artificial, but maybe it works. Never used it. I show a method in a youtube video. Shuffle; pick three cards. Turn them over. Upright means yes; reversed means no. Middle counts for 2 yes or 2 no, so you can get 2 upright and 2 reversed = maybe. Cards show how or why it will be yes or no. Will brother go to town? 4 cups rev = no, wants to think things through; Page swords rev = no, becaues feeling gnarly and hostile.

  • @johnballantrae001
    @johnballantrae001  13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @rastan1977 If you want some feedback or help, tell us the question and the cards. I don't want to re-write history, so to speak, but there may be another way of looking at the cards that came up.Sometimes the question can mean more than one thing, for instance.

  • @mheldematera

    Wow!sir,well done said.thank you for sharing.

  • @rastan1977
    @rastan1977 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @johnballantrae001 No mate,it was a straight forward question that required 1 answer.I asked if my brother would want to go up town for the day and the cards said yes.I rang him and he said no.
    I can understand though how people get the answers they seek when you consider the considerable variations to anything that you ask.
    If read in a certain way you could convince yourself of anything.

    Actually this all started because I was working with buddhist meditation vocally-in a cd and meditating to it. The positive was not working. I was still scared and felt that I was missing something. I went to a black mirror, which I had not Idea what it really was and then I went to tarot. I learnt about the black velvet pouch, put it in a wooden box in the dark? but this is good to know how to actually take care of them. I got into Reiki only because whenever I touched someone for long enough I absorbed their pain/black stuff and they felt GREAT! but I got the worst stomach pain ever after that. This is all still a mystery to me and is it even really worth it? Thanks for reading.

    there is no right or wrong way with the tarot deck, unless you intentionally place cards. Shuffle the deck once or a thousand times. It's all in the cards and the interpreter/querent.

    • @johnballantrae001
      @johnballantrae001  10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Maybe not right or wrong, but the method I show will put the reader and questioner in a good space and place to work with what the Tarot will show. You can do whatever you want, but some atmospheres are better than others - and this method produces a good one. In this sense, there is a right way.

    • @algol291
      @algol291 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Ballantrae well, if it helps put faith in what you're doing, then yes, it is a "right way". It's all in the individual's relation to the cards.

    • @johnballantrae001
      @johnballantrae001  10 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      *****
      Maybe it's not as simple as the individual's relation to the cards. You could always try the method and see where it leads, and then you would be speaking from actual experience, and not just from a perhaps randomly adopted position.

    • @algol291
      @algol291 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Ballantrae fair enough. I'll give your "method" a try and let you know my thoughts. But, I don't believe in routine when shuffling my deck. In my opinion, the lay out should be as random as what the cards depict, which is infinity. I'm sure you understand my prior statement.

    • @algol291
      @algol291 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Ballantrae your 'Celtic Cross' spread looked odd. Do as you please, but I always place my first and second cards as you did, but my third is the crown (top), then right, bottom, and left. And of course, the four cards to the left.

    @rastan1977 Fair enough. I don't want to harass you, but can you say what the cards were. It's sometimes a good idea to examine spreads that don't work out so we can read better in the future, though I take you point that it's just a wrong answer and that happens too sometimes. Something may come up that would be helpful or useful for others reading the comments.

    @johnballantrae001 i speak from without knowing exactly how to use tarot cards. but i was just getting at the random element. surely if you shuffle cards and draw cards then it's just a matter of chance. i agree that dreams obviously give you an insight of 'underlying truths' as dreams are formed by your real (subconcious) and concious thoughts. i'll look up Chu Hsi thanks. btw if you could do any tutorials on Angel Tarot cards (the deck i have) that would be great for me.

    Wanna hear something weird.......so I pulled out my deck to shuffle right?
    I did what the video showed which was shuffle them 3 times.......Then a card at the bottom kinda caught my attention.....so I pause at 6:01
    I’m kinda superstitious right so I’m like fuck it why did this card want my attention.......It’s the same exact card he’s holding at this moment in the same position.......I kinda did ask where my life was going in the next 3 months

      Something similar happened to me. One of my card fell off my deck while I was shuffling it and it was the Ace of Sword. I started shuffling again, and a while later, that same card fell off my deck again. And a while before that happened, I was reading a guide on how to cleanse Tarot decks, and the autor mentionned that she lost her Ace of Sword card in the text.
