And I think you're the first to do this shootout. Awesome job. Both pedals are great and it definitely seems like the Vesta is fuller whereas the Ceres is tighter. Now I'm wondering if the Vesta can get as tight as the Ceres when boosted with the Eros. I guess that'll be another video. 😂
To use non-technical terms, I'm feeling like the Vesta has coarser grains of distortion and the Ceres has finer grains. I love that you aren't playing hard favorites here, but fairly pointing out the strong points of both units. For my tastes, the Vesta wins, but that is no hate on the Ceres at all. It's like they are both A+ units but one of them smiled at me too.
@@PariahVSGear I have to ask a Revv pedal question while you're about. I bought both the G3 and the G4 1.5 weeks ago. Tried them both as preamps (like you are "supposed" to to) and they sounded like muffled low gain turd. I am now selling them on Reverb.. Any idea what the deal may have been? Are the pedals way overhyped or could it have been something with the effects loop of my MT15 head? My V4 Kraken preamp did its job just fine.
@@PariahVSGear Please continue to be a font of demo goodness. The community needs what you do and your positive attitude is needed even more. Stay metal, -Joel
@@PariahVSGear As a follow-up for all, I tried the Revv G4 in the clean channel instead of the effects loop and it was much better. Still not awesome, but better. KSR, here I come.
as someone that primarily plays thrash and spends most of my time in E standard, Eb standard, D standard, and drop D etc., I definitely prefer the Vesta. I know the Ceres is known as THE metal preamp, but I've always found it was voiced too dry. The Vesta sounds more organic, probably due to the more pronounced bass. I also prefer to stack gain on gain and use boosts in front of my preamp. I'm so glad KSR made the Vesta; it's what I have been wanting. Thanks for the comparison.
Giving the people what they want! Both of these are killer, and it seems like you could realistically dial them in to be pretty identical. In this demo, I think I kind of lean towards the Vesta. It just has a fuller sound and is a bit more versatile. I'd rather have a bigger sound and dial out the bass with a boost than not have enough low end on tap.
It's interesting how similar the sounds are. But the difference in feel between my Ceres and Vesta are super crazy different.. Thought i would keep one and sell the other, i ended up keeping both. Too good to get rid of🤘
Neat playing and killer comparison! The Vesta was a pleasant surprise when I first heard about it, but my Marshall Silver Jubilee already takes care of the 80's stuff and other classic tones I greatly enjoy. Love stepping on the Ceres whenever modern tones are needed and it sure as hell delivers!
Vesta seems to be that marshall (british) high gain tone, Ceres seems to be more of a mesa rectifier high gain tone. I quite like both but I would go with Ceres personally as the sound is a little bit tighter.
These are definitely best used into an fx loop, but they can sound great into the front as well. I'm using them into a dedicated power amp here, so a lot like the fx return of an amp. Thanks dude!
Tried both of these out the other day. For 6 strings I think the vesta is a little thicker. The ceres excels more at the 7 and 8 string stuff due to its tighter drier voicing. Both killer units, but I left with the ceres
You like Symphony-X? I think I discovered them back in 1996. Romeo has been my favorite guitar guy for a long time. Have you heard the band LOVEBITES? If not.... check out the songs: "Under The Red Sky" and "Holy War". ( The live versions. ) Also these songs: "Swan Song" with piano etude intro, "Empty Daydream", "We The United", and "Epilogue".
Hey mate, thank you for the great comparison. I’m still about to decide which one I should get. If you would play in a Cover Band and play stuff like Papa Roach, Linkin Park, but also Mötley Crue, Guns’N’Roses and Foo Fighters - would you then rather go for the Vesta, the Ceres or even for both? P. S. I already own a Friedman BE OD Deluxe (just for your information), Amp is a Marshall SC20C (small JCM 800 Combo)
@Pariah VS Gear So I'm thinking of buying the KSR Vesta - just one more question on this topic: I asked you if you would take the Ceres or the Vesta for the sound I described, and you answered "the Vesta" - so my question is, would you prefer the Vesta if you could only choose between the KSR pedals, or in general for this cover-band case? Thank you a lot again for helping and a lot of greetings out of Bavaria.
Hey dude, no problem! I love both of these pedals pretty equally, but nowadays, I'd probably choose the vesta if I could only have one! That's partially because I always use a boost pedal though. If you aren't a fan of using overdrive pedals at all, you can probably get more high gain stuff out of the Ceres
Was going to go KSR, but these two pedals are significantly more expensive than the direct competition. Thought I saw in one of your videos they're cheaper. If so, where from? Great reviews/demos, by the way.
Hey dude! I appreciate that. But yeah, I've seen them go for like 300 bucks used, I think that's the lowest I've seen. I do think they are among the absolute best preamp pedals out there, but yeah, there are other good options too that are a bit cheaper
Hey unrelated ish question buuuuttt... I just got a powerstage and am wondering if it's worth the extra money for a ksr or if I should save a little and just get the friedman? Side note I have a savage drive to boost. Thanks in advance and keep it up gear guru.
Hey dude! If you plan to use the pedal into a power stage then into a cab, I HIGHLY recommend one of these over the friedman. Though I do enjoy the BE-OD deluxe in that context, I've never considered it as being near the same level as the Ceres, and by association, I'd say the same of the Vesta. Good luck!
Gotcha. In my opinion, the Ceres and vesta feel quite a bit better, but I've never personally liked the Revv pedals very much. They sound a lot better into a clean channel than into an fx loop, to my ears, but yeah. It's kinda a personal taste thing!
@@PariahVSGear Thank you! I'm close to pulling the trigger on either Vesta or the Ceres, trying to make a decision. Unfortunate that it's more British, I've been waiting for a preamp that does the Recto- flavour of low mid grunt for years now...
