I love the - call to worship - between song 1 & 2. For the rest, we've found transitions that work better for us. We have a prayer moment where the congregation has the opportunity before the service starts to fill in a prayer request, that the tech team then gathers during worship (song 1 usually) and puts up on screen after the last song - MC then comes on with the requests in hand and prays for them (also praise reports/answered prayers thanking God) we then transition to tithes and offering (still in worship mode as giving is a form of worship) then into a welcome moment that includes a 'turn to your neighbour' with a 1 Min clock on screen, we called it our minute to mingle, after we do announcements, then finally MC Intro's the preacher with a prayer. And after we do exactly what you guys do.
Great Video bro. I also think it's very important in worship to sing acapella. this gives the congregation opportunity to sing without feeling like a show and more of a sign of worship to know we're singing for an audience of one and as a way to bounce off each other. Also one note is i know lighting is important but my personal opinion is that when you have the lighting focused more on the band than the entire room, it creates a separation. i think balanced lighting is great to feel like we're worshiping in unity.
Hi Great video explaining the worship transition...Im just thinking if it would be better not to dark out the lighting between songs and just remain some lighting as ambience during worship songs so the lights dont need to be up then dark then light up and dark again to avoid distracting the ambience of worship? Just a thought....:)
thanks for this jake. as a worship leader/pastor it is hard to find time to go and visit other churches on Sundays, let alone talk with their leaders, so thanks for sharing the why behind how you do things.
Awesome video Jake! As a lighting guy for another church, I have some thoughts about some of the lighting transitions. I know this video is just one example of a service, but one thing I noticed at the beginning of worship is that you're in the dark when you ask everyone to stand. We try to light up the band as soon as tracks start so that the congregation can see who is talking to them. The other suggestion I have is to not always go black between songs. Little things like keeping your wash or truss warmers on will help to keep the energy up from the last song and carry it into the next. Love the videos bro!
Thanks for sharing and being open about this important topic. Awareness of change is critical at transitions. Transitions are key times and, often, an operator can slip up on video or audio mixing that really messes with the moment. Also, I must say that besides the technical parts of audio, video, and lighting, participants on stage should transition well too. Walking across stage when entering or exiting and moving mic stands can be quite distracting. I understand how that can sometimes be hidden by doing it during prayer, but on video its more likely still seen and maybe it should get more planning for those other visible movements. This can also get assistance from lighting that’s more focused on the front center where the person is talking instead of the whole stage where movement occurs in the background.
Our church is different we don't worry about changing color or lights to much exp; Practice, Pre-service, Worship, Greeting, Preaching, Solo/Drama, Preaching
Hey Jake, Could you do a video on a good budget handheld/manned camera, like those that can move around with the person holding it. Our church wants to incorporate this but I have no idea which camera to start with, types of cables, other equipment needed... it would be a big help if you could, Thanks!
We does it the same, pastor says "Could the band come to the stage?" or "Could (name of band leader) come to stage?" and he/they starts with some music
wonderful thanks so much for sharing! Excited to incorporate more of these strategies at our church in church! What programs like propresenter do you use?
Hi jake, what is the kind of light do you use for front stage? We are struggling to find a cheap and brighter light to use because we to streaming and it looks dark in some spot of the stage. Blesses!
Thank you Jake for another great video on worship. Have you at Mission Lakewood experimented with the placement of the announcements in the worship service? Do you change it up or are you pretty consistent on the placement?
I could not see your bass player..is there one or is that in your track?(This was a very helpful video! Thanks!) Could you do a video on how you setup the music and transitions and clicks? Just a overview of what you’re doing and using. Again thanks! (Loved your Bethel video. Very insightful.)
Very helpful! A lot of good reminders, and one new thought for me: transitioning into the announcements. Great thought there! Thanks for being vulnerable enough to show us your team and the congregation you serve.
Jake, when you do a song that has cut measures (e.g., a song in 4/4 with measures of 2/4), I've noticed you use Ableton's click still. Are you adding time signature change markers in Ableton in all of those places? I've been wondering about this a lot lately, since you stick with Ableton's click on everything. We usually mute Ableton's click and roll with the clicks from MultiTracks that follow time signature changes, tempo adjustments and what not. What's your process there?
Yeah we use time signature changes in Ableton. We rarely play songs that change tempo. If we do we can just use the audio file click for that song and disable Abletons
Oh, you mentioned it’s proclaim. I decided against proclaim because it requires a constant internet connection which is often unreliable at our church 😕 I decided to stick to EasyWorship because it’s the most affordable.
@@JoeyTeckno Proclaim doesn't need constant internet, it stores everything locally after the initial download of all your service items, we've used it with no issues in places where i don't even have cell service! It's more expensive than EasyWorship but there are some great features. Great video Jake!
@@BBCTransform not sure what happened then, but it wouldn't open on last Sunday's service, which happened to be the first (and last) time we tried it. I had to connect my computer to my iPhone's hotspot to get it to launch. It sure has some neat and powerful features, but I found it frustratingly counter-intuitive. I had to Google to figure out how to do several things and in doing so, I found a post in their official support forums that said (paraphrased) "the more 'computer person' you are, the more counter-intuitive Proclaim is" and that totally resonated with me. I also experienced some really odd quirks, like one time I pressed Ctrl-Z to undo a FORMATTING, and Proclaim instead undid the last text I typed ON ANOTHER SONG, and in doing so, completely replaced the text of the song I was currently editing, with no way to go back. I had to retype the entire song again. I just can't handle paying a lot more for even more frustration, so I went back to EasyWorship.

Our ministry budget is literally zero because our church is fairly new and still under 80 members, and all the "technological advances" and implementation has been God through me. It's a TON of work but God knows it's rewarding. It's not surprising that whenever I try something new, I get all sorts of nervous 🤣 I really appreciate your comments and support. God bless!
the click in the background while you're doing your first transition, does it play the whole time through your house speakers or is it only in your "ears" on stage?
Jake: Great video. Question: When you build your songs in Ableton live....do you build in a drum track? A keys track? I hear the bass track. When I hear the drums on this video - or if would have been in the service that day - am I hearing ONLY the drummer who is there in person or am I hearing him playing along WITH a drum track you put into Ableton Live? Same with the keyboard player. I understand the PAD sounds are triggered in Ableton - but same question for the keys as for the drummer.
Drummer here! I have no reference to drum parts other than some aux perc. (like we have a tambourine track and 808s) but all acoustic live drums are me and me only. I just work really hard to get the songs pretty much note for note.
@@lukeramlet275 Thanks for the input I was just wondering how to do our service. We're set up very similar to you guys (i.e. keys, acoustic guitar, bass and drummer). @@chrismeans6750 Yeah, I get that. As far as drummers go we just have me and a fill-in for whenever I can't make it which is only 2-3 times a year. So we really like consistency!

Wow! You're packing 70 to 100 people into a high school theater auditorium?!? You need top get your own building. Do you have prospects for a property?
The room we use holds about 500 at max compacity, so we are more than ok for the time being. Also, we are in Denver Colorado buildings are a) really dang expensive b) really hard to find c) not very justifiable for a church that has one service on a weekend and only has ~100 attendees on any one of those services.
for the scripture reading, if everyone that has a mic reads together with you it brings a greater chorus and unity and encourages others in the audience to be more vocal and courageous ;)
If you click on the gear in the TH-cam video, you can speed it up or slow it down. I am always speeding them up to save time, only slow down if I want to listen more closely to a section.
