    I don't mean to repeat myself but this case was too good not to take a look at. We have another DPF that's in serious need of attention. Soot, Ash load, possible Coolant contamination...This time a dealer has attempted and failed to clean it. They've pretty much sentenced it to death...Unless we can revive it.
    It's also worth noting that all water exiting the drain in this video is ran through a trap to contain Pollutants/Hydrocarbons.

    Been power washing the filters for years... Learned from a manufacturer from Mack the process and true purpose... So sad so many drivers & technicians are told different and drop paychecks into the design.

      When I worked fleet, we had some prostars I was told had "failing dpf"s because they we need regens everyday. I figured they're on their way out anyway, so one one was finally face plugged, I tried this out in secrecy from my boss. I never had to take a dpf one time to the dealer to have it baked. The ones I cleaned also didn't have regen issues either!

    I had 2007 International bus that was clogged up so bad that it clogged the EGR cooler and intake heater element. I cleaned everything and replaced EGR COOLER and EGR VALVE. The bus would run for 5 seconds and died. After cleaning DPF and DOC and did regeneration twice, the bus is running great. Thank you for the informations. Great help.

    Funny thing i just did this today kind of, we have had an Isuzu with dpf issues in the fleet, 4 years ago it had an egr cooler failure and never got pulled apart, after the issue got so bad but couldn't pull the truck off the road we left the scan tool with the driver to clear the codes and do manual burns we finally got it in this week, the first section of the dpf is failing and falling apart so quote up new one ouch 7.5k, so get a new center section, all ready had dpf cleaning fluid to soak the dpf in, Went to my self if i can wash out as much ash and soot before hand this should help the dpf cleaning fluid, So got the fire hose out as i did not think the filter could handle to the pressure wash, and start reverse flushing, well the amount of coolant i washed out that had been there for 4 years was amazing, looked at it and went might not need the dpf cleaner, then went bit bored tonight ill see if anything on dpf cleaning fluids is on you tube before i clean it, seen your vids and went i just did that lol, ill prob still give it the dpf fluid but ill do the wire test before and after and see if any difference.

    Just clean it on 08 International bus. Got most of it out and did a regen even though the ECM said no regen needed. But it needed regen because the bus wasn't ran long enough to get the code for regen. While I was doing a regen the code came on for regen need and the temperature went above a thousand degrees to clean the sud out. Now the bus ran fine.

  • @thebmac
    @thebmac 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    will be looking at doing this next week. I believe customer has excessively idled the engine and plugged up the DOC. A regen only lasts 6 minutes before it kicks out from over heating at the first temp sensor. Hopefully the DPF and DOC splits apart like yours, otherwise I guess i'll be washing the soot and ash back through the DOC. Thanks for the vid.!

  • @mwhitelaw8569
    @mwhitelaw8569 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does having some moisture in the dpf affect the scr in anyway?
    Or is what's remaining after using air completely boil off during run test?
    And how do you keep the truck from throwing codes when the exhaust is not complete?

    • @TheDieseler
      @TheDieseler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never had an issue with excess moisture in the system. Blowing most of it out and allowing a little drying time has always worked fine. It will set codes while running partially disassembled but I just clear them afterwards.

    • @TheDieseler

      No, it should never protrude right through to the other side. Each channel you place it inside is capped on the other side. This is how it traps and filters soot.

  • @MrSharky104
    @MrSharky104 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just to reinterate, so these DPFs capture the soot, is then burnt off into ash, then the shop after about 5,000 hours wash them out with pressure washer water! Where does the water go? Yup, as suspected, back to the ground, contaminating the surroundings and into the water table. Friggen racket...

    • @wyattlarrick3246
      @wyattlarrick3246 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good thing this stuff has to go through hundreds of feet of dirt and porus rock to get into well water. Water is also filtered so this stuff doesn't harm you. Plus must of these truck places have special services which come collect contaminated substances so it doesn't get into water supplies.
      Wouldn't ever happen if we didn't require DPFs on diesels now adays.

    A good pressure washing? That's all it takes? Why would anyone pay thousands of dollars to have it "professionally" serviced, then? There's gotta be a catch. Does the high pressure water damage the fine DPF channels in any way? I know they're made of soft, ductile metal such as palladium, so maybe they're also really fragile?
