  • Today I am making a start on my fabric book with all the blocks I received during our Slow stitch collaboration organised by Susanna from Vintage Blend studio. I'm thinking I will put my fabric pages in a hard cover. Inspiration for the pages came from Charlotte Lyons.

Rachel, I don’t think you need to worry about detracting from the pieces. You are like a weaver putting the pieces together and amalgamating them. I love what you are doing with this. How wonderful to have something so beautiful to work on and enjoy.

Rachel, my stuff's still in storage, but I've been watching. I've gone through three phones in two months, and my son got tired of not being able to call, so he bought me this huge and expensive phone and put it under no questions asked replacement warranty under his phone, so now learning to use it. The sales person told him I could fly the international space station with this phone. And he replied. She just wants to watch TH-cam craft videos and scroll through pinterest. So, when I logged on this am, this video popped up. Oh my goodness, is this drool worthy or what? 4th of July is my favorite holiday, since my kid quit believing in Santa and ruined it for both of us. You know the rule., stop believing he stops coming. I know you've been having my too long comments withdrawal. Ha. This is beyond wonderful. I'm up early this quiet Sunday morning, still snuggled under my warm blankets, and about to watch how you created this. I know you and Sarah and your mom (who must be thrilled) have broken the internet with your slow stitch project. My arthritic hands have issues, but I still love the videos. I've been invited to spend a month, or longer, with my daughter from another mother, ha, and her lovely family. Her daughter is turning 13 in March. One thing we're going to do is go through her mother's clothes, whom died 11 years ago, and she was so heartbroken she couldn't bear to throw/give away her clothes. I'm taking my sewing machine which also embroiders and quilts and we're going to make quilts for all the grandchildren, and I told her, it doesn't have to only be fabric, you can slow stitch, etc. And her 12 y/o daughter's eyes lit up to be included. For her birthday I'm making her a needle keep and a stocked full of gorgeous colors thread box. You only turn 13 once. But I've introduced your channel. And hopefully she will love creating with textile and paper art, or combos, which I hope she continues throughout her life. I don't call you the Martha Stewart of TH-cam for nuttin'. OK. My fingers are cramping from holding this giant phone and texting, so this comment will have to suffice for awhile, ha. I hope everyone is well, Hugs, Patricia

Hi Rachael, wow do I love your new under construction embroidery book! Awesome 👏 I like your idea of framing the pieces, but using the same colors drown out the pieces. I think a plain color would show off he pieces more. But that’s just me🤪I may be wrong.Maybe coffee dye the cloth first? As you would say, “It doesn’t matter”, I’m sure it will be beautiful as all you do is. Hugs.

I would have perhaps coffee or tea dyed the fabric first. I would then maybe have just out the odd piece like a cluster on one or two of the edges and blanket stitches around that page. I’m really not sure as I have to play as you do when I prepare a page. Am sure whatever you decide to do it will be beautiful as all your work is.

Hi Rachel - Have you thought about tea dyeing the white sheet? I think it would look pretty. I like the fabric borders you are adding. I think the fabric border on Jeanette’s piece takes away from her piece. Maybe use some solid or small print fabric around her piece or even lace. I’m sure whatever you decide to do will be beautiful. I’m not being negative just being honest. This will be an amazing book once you get it all together. Looking forward to seeing this come together.

I love this! I was so hoping you would use the book form, to be able to see each piece on it's own. A thought--use archival paper [like museums use] between each stitchery, folded like any journal page, to protect each one? Then you could include maker information on the paper itself, or add a pocket for the extra bits, but between the paper sheets, not touching the fabrics themselves.

@@roxycreations679 Another thought with this idea....pages between could also feature pictures of the pieces YOU made for each of the ladies. And then possibly pictures of how each lady 'finishes' their own pieces.
