I remember reading that they got their name from their rehearsal place's neighbors, who were certain Italian fast red car importers and there were guys walking with machine guns... This is the most horn-y FF album to date, BTW.
Love that you guys all enjoyed this, my Copy arrives tomorrow, so I've only got the singles to go on, and I think they are all solid. I actually played Demanufacture for the first time in years recently, and it's still sounds as fresh as the day I bought it in 95! A truly groundbreaking release.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! This got me in the Demanufacture nostalgic wave. I still love that album to death and this got pretty damn close to it. One of the strongest albums in from Fear Factory without a doubt.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I had my doubts about this one after all the legal stuff circling the band but this album flat out whoops ass... which makes it even more bittersweet that this is Burton's last one as it stands.
Good review. This album has been surprisingly enjoyable, alot more than I thought it would be. With all the chaos in FF, its impressive we got an album this solid. Easily their best since Mechanize, and a good send off for burton
Demanufacture and Obsolete are my fave with Mechanize being up there too (Gene Hoglan's drumming rules). It's bittersweet that they release such a good album but ends up being C. Bell's last.
Necrotic Nick- Demanufacture has pretty much been in constant rotation since I got it in '97 as well as Obsolete. I loved Gene's drum work on Mechanized too and we all had that bittersweet feeling as well about this one. If the album sucked we could have just wrote it off but this is a killer album.
This album sent me into nostalgia mode. Demanufacture was my shit in high school. I even loved Remanufacture. Obsolete was sublime. This was a welcome and familiar return to Fear Factory for me. This is my yardwork music. Ha!
Awesome review Thralls! This album I found very enjoyable loaded with hooks and melodies from start to finish ! It’s going to be interesting to see what they create next with out Burton Bell so moving forward with anticipation to their next new invention ! 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
Necrotic Nick- It's like rekindling an old friendship... but your buddy is going through a divorce and it's a tad awkward because you're friends with the other one too. Still, got a great album though.
Pretty good album but a bit bitter sweet now that Burton is gone. Definitely agree that this gets back to their first couple of albums. The addition of the symphonic elements are interesting. I do have faith in Dino though, he’s definitely taking his time picking a new vocalist. Hopefully whoever he picks will be the right guy.
Necrotic Nick- That was how we felt jamming it as well. It's a killer album but the feeling is bittersweet because of Burton's exit. Dino is the heart and soul of this band so I'm sure he's going to find the right guy or girl to fill the position.
Necrotic Nick- Well, we've got Incantation and Entombed/ Entombed AD to get through before we add any other bands to the list, but I'd love to rank Fear Factory.
Good review...I will check this out. FF hits that certain spot, especially if you were around during the death metal years when Soul of a New Machine came completely out of left field.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I've been a fan since '97 since I saw them at Ozzfest and they destroyed my senses there. I went out and bought Demanufacture and Soul of a New Machine after that. I actually covered Soul of a New Machine in an underrated death metal video awhile ago.
Necrotic Nick- I still have my original CD for Soul of a New Machine but I started with Demanufacture and I wore the original out. It's a bittersweet release for sure but this is a solid send off for Burton though.
Went into this thinking it was gonna be bad due to all the band turmoil, but this is the best since Mechanize. Great send off. Burton sounds fantastic here.
Necrotic Nick- Agreed. I was very apprehensive about snagging it but I'm so glad I did. It's bittersweet but I'm glad Burton left with another banger under his belt.
Demanufacture was a pivotal album for me in high school but I never delved into another Fear Factory album after that as I fell further down the metal rabbit hole. Perhaps I should change that.
Necrotic Nick- This would be a killer one to catch up with. Demanufacture was such a brilliant album and really opened me up to a lot of different stuff way back when I was teen.
My Fear Factory fandom has been up and down. They were in my top 5 favorite bands in the 90s for sure, and were right up until that Transgression album. Then I fell off them completely until Mechanize came out and I loved that album, and then I fell off them completely again, mostly because FF just felt like they stagnated. I loved how they evolved constantly in the 90s but then they found a formula and just milked it completely. I just want Dino to be more experimental as a guitarist instead of just playing the same sounding riffs over and over.
Necrotic Nick- I get it. I've been in the same spot off and on after Transgression but Mechanize did restore my faith. I think this is Dino's comfort zone at least with Fear Factory. I think if he wanted to broaden his playing style it might be in a different project.
Necrotic Nick- This one I'd just say if you're a Fear Factory fan you should definitely check it out. You'll find some of that old Demanufacture energy still intact.
@@thrallsofmetal I’m a fan, I bought Demanufacture from a chick in my drama class back in 97 and loved it. They are hit or miss with me though. I gave up on them after Digimortal but came back when I heard Mechinize, I fucking love that album. I’ll definitely give the new one a listen.
Necrotic Nick- Be excited for the music because it is killer, but it is bittersweet with all the shit circling the release. It's a mixed bag of emotions for me as well but musically this is a badass album.
I checked just over a month ago if anything new was in the works, and all I read about were contracted courtroom battles, and then tonight I stumble across your channel, and I find this review of an album I didn't know was out! A decent album, but for me too formulaic. Heavy heavy light chorus heavy chorus gets a bit repetitive after a while. But it sounds great, I'll give it another listen and see what happens.
So I agree with your scores and most of your commentary as well. I wish the synth work was a little darker! The only thing I disagree with is it seems like Necrotic Nick and Rin think this one “checks off every single box,” basically that it’s their best one in a while. Maybe it’s just me, but their best one in last ten years was Genexus. To me, that one was way more accurate with hooks, riffs, and choruses. This one is like a Genexus B-Sides album. Necrotic Nick himself says that the choruses sometimes miss on this one. I found that less to be the case in Genexus. To me, that’s the closest one to the songwriting magic/synchronicity that existed in Demanufacture and Obselete. This one is strong, just not as strong. Great commentary as always, and congrats on 6k!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I liked Genexus but this one, at least in my opinion, just feels closer to that classic Demanufacture sound. There were some misses as far as choruses on Genexus for me but here I thought the music was a bit tighter and more urgent. It maybe one of those that I change my mind over time but for right now this is probably my favorite since Mechanize.

Fear Factory always brings it. I'll always be an Obsolete fan though. To me, it really is their best album. SECURITRON(Police State 2000) just totally describes the way things are today. The relevance is simply scary. Heavy vocals are wildly aggressive & clean vocals are on a whole other level for it's time.
