    I think these guys will dig it as much as I have...sigh is known for weird so that can never be a negative factor in their music. This album has so much going on, that requires multiple listens to fully take it all in. Definitely an adventure of an album

      Necrotic Nick- This album was the equivalent of going to a circus/ fair on LSD and I totally loved it. The musicianship is next level and it managed to be strange and technical without going completely off the rails. The songs are catchier than on here but their still 100% Sigh.

    I absolutely love this album! The drums are seriously bad ass! I'm glad you guys commented on Mike Heller's performance...If you haven't heard it before check out his drumming on Beneath's album Ephemeris. Not only is his playing on that album excellent but his drum sound is a perfect example of how I wish death metal bands would record their drums.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Necrotic Nick- Same here. I never quite know what I'm getting with this band but I usually impressed as hell with how unique as hell approach to music. Heller put in one the best drum performances I've heard this year and I do have that Beneath album and it's a banger for sure. I don't remember much about the mix so I might have to revisit that one.

    Sigh are the best if not one of the best bands when it comes to avant-garde black metal. Every album is different but is well written and takes the listener on a journey. This album is a masterpiece and is no exception. It’s hard to tell whether I like this more than Heir to Despair, it’s just that good.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Necrotic Nick- In terms of avant garde metal in general I would say they are the standard for me. They know how to be strange, musically diverse but most importantly memorable for their actual music. Their albums are cohesive and are loaded with catchy hooks as well as transitions that'll make your head spin. I really enjoyed Heir to Despair but this might be better.

    This is a totally awesome LP. And I thought i would mention that Mirai Kawashima played on Necrophagia's "Goblins Be Thine" and "The Divine Art of Torture". And you can defiantly hear his input.

    Favorite Sigh Lineup:
    Mirai Kawashima -
    vocals, orchestrations, piano, organ, theremin, whistle, sitar, tabla, tampura, etc
    Dr. Mikannibal - vocals, saxophone
    Satoshi Fujinami - bass
    Shinichi Ishikawa - guitar
    Junichi Harashima - drums...
    Shiki has the worst guitar solos (not bad/not great - don't feel them)
    since the first few Sigh albums (Before Shinichi found his voice)...
    Regardless still feel its a Masterpiece...
    Best drum/guitar performance on a Sigh album is In Somniphobia & Scenes From Hell
    Sighs Discography ranking as of right now...
    (1. & 2. are locked in stone dont see anything changing their ranking)...
    1. Scenes From Hell
    2. In Somniphobia (Best Solos) used to be #1 until a couple of years ago
    3 Heir To Despair
    4. Hangman' Hymn
    5. Gallows Gallery
    6. Graveward
    (7.) Shiki (only listened to a few times/could rank higher with time)
    (3. - 7. could switch places)
    8. Imaginary Sonicscape (starting their run of Avant Garde Metal Masterpieces)
    9. Scenario IV: Dread Dreams
    10. Hail Horror Hail
    11. Ghastly Funeral Theatre Ep
    12. Infidel Art
    13. Scorn Defeat...

      Necrotic Nick- This would be a hard one to rank in the future for sure. I really dug the lead work on this one though. There's a lot of big, epic sound harmonies and they're placed really well in the songs. I'm definitely going to jam this a lot more in the future though.

      Necrotic Nick- This band consistently melts my fucking brain with every release. There really isn't another band like them in my opinion and I think they may have written on of their best albums to date with this album. Heller's drumwork really drives the songs and holy shit the transitions and atmosphere is just nuts but it all gels so damn well. Like I said, next to Godzilla, Sigh might be one of my favorite Japanese exports.

    heard the album yesterday. Iv'e been into them since at least Scenario iV days and of course went backwards to their earlier stuff, which I hugely enjoy, especailly Infidel Art. After Insomnophobia they got rid of their longtime guitarist Shinichi, and it hasn't been the same for me since then, or maybe since Scenes from Hell really. But this? This is my favourite since Hangman's Hymn, at least. Yes, it's strange and full of diverse influences and sounds, but also seems more sgenuinely metallic than anything else in their recent discography. I didn't realise till today that that kadenza guy is no longer in the band on guitar, and maybe that's a good thing -- for this band -- the guitars just sound so much beefier than their last few. Also, drums have never really stood out all that much on a Sigh album till now, but all of a sudden, wow! They also got the best and earthiest production job they've had in a while, and they seem to realise this, witht he little drum solos all over the place really showcasing how organic everything sounds.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Necrotic Nick- I still liked Scenes from Hell and In Somniphobia but this one just instantly hooked me. It feels more focused on hooks but with their token strange atmosphere. I think the production really let the guitars and the drums shine which the amazing drum work from Heller really drives the material on here. This is almost the equivalent of a fresh coat of paint for this band. It has everything I look for in Sigh but also delivers a lot of new dynamics over all. It's simply amazing.

Neat for things to get mixed up a bit and to see one of you guys' first exposure to Sigh. Sick to see Jon's face light up as he's describing his first experiences. What a weird, sick fucking band, huh?

      Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I always love hearing that people are finding new stuff through our channel. That's exactly what I wanted to see happen in general. I had this one on my radar and I was so glad that this blew Miller and Jon's mind the way they did when I first checked out Imaginary Sonicscape all those years ago. This could be their best yet but man, they do have a lot of killer albums.

    This is undoubtedly one of the most affecting extreme metal album I’ve heard in over a decade. This rivals the awe I had when I heard Opeth (the death metal version) back in the day. A combination of styles that is organic and authentic. The level of musicianship is unattainable for most bands. These are players of the highest magnitude and discipline. The journey through this album is truly a beautiful experience for me, the way it ends is so absolutely satisfying that I sit in silence after it’s done to reflect. Beard stroking genius on display here. 10 fucking stars, 3 squirts and a thumbs up!

      Necrotic Nick- Honestly, even after listening to Sigh for years this album legit blows me away. This might be one of their most imaginative, creative and most insane releases in their career which is saying something in itself. Being able to blend all the styles they do and make it really catchy without just being odd for the sake of being odd really makes this band shine in terms of progressive/ avant garde metal as a whole. This album is flat out amazing.

    Heard this album a few times and it already ranks higher than Scorn Defeat, Infidel Art, Ghastly Funeral Theatre, Hail Horror Hail, Scenario IV:Dread Dreams & Imaginary Sonicscape… Sigh has no bad albums they only got a lot better as they matured… Needs more spins it might rank even higher…
    Sigh are the greatest Avant Garde Metal band of all time… The reason his drums are better on this album than Fear Factory albums is because he’s evoking Sigh’ drummer Junichi Harashima’ style his own style is generic… Drums are better than I thought they would be… Junichi’ still in the band and will probably be on their next album which is great since his Creativity, Uniqueness & Skillsets are perfectly suited for Sigh…
    Shiki is the Avant Garde Metal album of the year along with Imperial Triumphant’ Spirit Of Ecstasy, Voivod’ Synchro Anarchy, Deathspell Omega, Dir En Grey, Artificial Brain, Krallice, Meshuggah, Boris, & Devin Townsend (Oct)… This might be the Golden Age of Avant Garde Metal along with album’ like last year’ masterpiece Imperative Imperceptible Impulse (Ad Nauseam), etc
