- This time we travel down the side of the amazing Derwent Dams made famous when the Dambusters trained at night flying in 1943. 232mph at 60' over the water. Imagine being a local resident and trying to work out what was happening!.
Then onto the wonderful, if not slightly intimidating, Snake Pass to Glossop. Up over Holme Moss where the Tour de France went a number of years ago to bustling Holmefirth where Last of the Summer Wine was filmed.
Next the daunting Strines with a stop for lunch at the Strines Inn and the return of the loop to Ladybower reservoir and Hathersage. around 80 miles of amazing roads, hope you enjoy!
All on my doorstep here in Glossop,Great vid.🏍
Same
Hi Rick, you are also in biking heaven 🤣
Did the Derwent dams last year. Stunning. is My poppy still taped to the raillings at the monument. Lest We Forget 🌹
Sure I saw it 🤣
Normski, I started with your rebuild videos, but now have been watching everything. Great content. Looking forward to more and very excited for a new teardown/repair video if you ever decide to complete another one. Ride safe!
Hi Polish Asparagus, what a great name! Thank you so much for your comments. I just cannot afford to build any more bikes, even though I enjoyed doing them very much, well some of the time anyway. Although I have sold each bike with great bidding on eBay because buyers could see the build, it never covers the cost of the parts...forget the time. The Cafe Racer I built (before I was on TH-cam so still pictures only) cost me almost £10,000 and hundreds of hours and I sold it for £5,000. Being a pensioner I cannot sustain those costs. Watch out for the next video, which I will make very soon...my beloved 1250GS has gone. Didn't realise that my wife hated riding pillion on it. So Wife or GS, GS or wife. The GS has gone and something totally different is in my garage. Wait and see 😃
Thoroughly enjoyed that ride sir. Look forward to riding it myself, thank you.
Thank you Alan...you will love it 😃
Another great video on many roads I’ve ridden but I didn’t realise you could go up to the top of Howden Reservoir. We stop off at the Carding Shed, south of Holmfirth, a good sized cafe serving great food and a collection of classic cars and the like to browse before jumping back on the bike again. Well recommend.
Keep up the good work👍👍
I also never realised you could go up to Howden reservoir until I started to research 🧐, you have to try it. Also been to carding shed, it is amazing. Now why didn’t I include that in the route 😳
A well put together video, Norman , that really captured this area very well . I meet some friends at our local bakery where we invite others we see and know, to sit with us in our "Last of The Summer Wine" group ! Amazing how popular and well known that series still is over here .
Brilliant Graham…small world eh🤩
Very good ride. Thank you
Thank you David, so pleased you enjoyed it. Will try and work on more rides in the future😃
Another great ride!!!!!
When it is not pouring down with rain there is some good riding in the UK Fred! 😎
Just FYI: They've been making repairs to the walls of Howden and Derwent, so they have let Ladybower fill up by allowing the other 2 to drain out a little.
Fascinating Andrew, thank you 😊
In the mid 60's my brother drove me and two mates from Nottingham to Manchester to the Twisted Wheel nightclub, after our night out we headed home via the snake pass in a blizzard ! the road had been closed but my brother being the person he was decided to go for it in his Austin A40 ! a nightmare journey clouded a little by our consumed alcohol.
Wow Brian...maybe that is why it is number 7 in the list of the most dangerous roads in the world. All your fault 🤣🤣
As always, another thoroughly enjoyable video. Thanks for sharing.
Your comments Clive encourage me so much, thank you.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Snake has the reputation due to the high number of accidents and fatalities. That is a reality. However, the road itself ridden at 50mph has little or no danger. It is very nice and flowing. The issue is high speed drivers and riders who will crash.
Also the turn onto Woodhead (as a local) is far easier if you turn the bike on approach as if you were going to turn left. Then the angles work in your favour.
Also just to add I have just subscribed to your channel. This link is a video I did over Snake Pass and it gives another perspective following the bike. Let me know what you think.

Yes 50mph total sense…you are right about the position to turn left as you join Woodhead, very good idea🤩
Snake Pass is a fabulous road to ride, I don't think the road itself is particularly dangerous at all. It probably does attract a certain type of driver/rider whose confidence is disproportionally higher than their skill and ability.
Hi Ralph, agree with you, wonderful toad but speed limit set at 59mph for a reason 😮
50mph that should have said 🤷🏼♂️
I live North Sheffield. I am so lucky to have the Snake and Strines so close when I fancy a quick bimble out on 2 wheels!
