    Nice video but... you did not talk about the different offsets. Some rims that are for rear wheel drive have more of an out offset. Wrong offset can ruin the bearings over time in some cases cause catastrophic failure of axles.

    • @carquestions
      @carquestions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      agreed - severe offsets of 3 cm or more are dangerous

    WRONG.
    Of paramount importance LONG BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN THE HUB NUTS.
    Make sure the center bore matches (or is slightly larger) than your car's specs.
    Otherwise, when you tighten down the hub nuts - YOU WILL DISTORT THE RIM.
    Having a distorted rim ruins every other aspect of retro fitting rims to your car.
    ie:
    If your car's hub spec is 67.1 then fitting a 66.1 RIM won't fit.
    Oh it may look right, but it's that last little bit of centering clearance as you tighten the nuts, which WILL distort the rim.
    HOWEVER - there is a way to fit them, and that's to get an engineering business, to put the rims on the lathe, center them correctly, and LATHE OFF a half millimeter (around the entire center) - or whatever is needed to get the correct center bole hole size.
    The wheel nuts will STILL tighten the rim onto the nuts, if the rim spec PCD is the same as your car's specs, but that all important CENTER BORE - cannot be smaller (and shouldn't be too much larger) than your car's spec.

      You can start with the stock wheel, and compare a few parameters: 1) the wheel size (e.g. 8Jx18 which means diameter of the wheel is 18", and width is 8" with a J type mounting flange); 2) bolt pattern (e.g. 5x120 which means 5 bolts evenly distributed on a circle of diameter 120mm); 3) offset (e.g. 50mm which measure from the center of wheel, if it's a positive number it means the contacting plane is on the outside from the center); 4) Center Bore (e.g. 65mm which is the size of the shallow hole on the back of the wheel, this needs to match for your car or slightly larger). These are the basic parameters, now you can google to find some website to see what kind of tires that fit the wheel, and hopefully find something that won't interfere with the suspension with very similar overall diameter.

    Isn't there also an issue with the depth of the rim? Of course you have to measure the bolt pattern - that's what I thought you were going to discuss.

    • @carquestions

      That's why you twist the wheel to see if it hits

    In layman terms that's exactly what should be done. But there must be something else to judge better without replacing the wheels.

      @@carquestions WRONG AGAIN, as the car doesn't think. PERIOD.
      It's not a living creature with that benefit, thus doesn't have a BRAIN that thinks..
      It is simply a machine, designed for one size rim and will most likely fail if an excessively different rim size is used.

    hi i have a Question I visited my local Chevrolet dealership and I was looking at 2021 Chevy Malibu with the 1.5 turbo engine now the dealership told me you should put regular gasoline but it's terrible I should put premium gasoline is that right ??

    • @carquestions
      @carquestions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You should get the car's owner's manual and see in the specifications what gas it says to use - the owner's manual was printed by the people who built the car not the people who sell it so it is the manufacturer that is the authority on this issue.

    • @QUIX4U
      @QUIX4U 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carquestions It totally depends on how it is TUNED after you buy it.
      Factory settings (as far as tuning go) are only done for economic uses, not for performance.
      If you later TUNE the engine on a higher rating fuel, then that higher rated fuel is what's needed, not factory specs.

    I have a 2017 Acura MDX with OEM 245/50R20 tires mounted on OEM 20×8 wheels. I want to mount my tires on wider 2022 Acura MDX OEM 20×9 wheels. Do you think I will have any wheel clearance issues by using the 1" wider wheels? Same bolt pattern and offset. The 20×9 wheel comes with 255/50R20 tires so my tires are 10mm narrower but the wheel is 1" wider. I'm not worried about the narrower tire rubbing but do you think the wider wheel will have any suspension clearance or wheelwell/fender clearance issues?

    • @carquestions
      @carquestions  ปีที่แล้ว

      No Bob - There will be zero issues since the 2017 was also spec'd with 8.5 - 265 and 9 - 275 tires so you putting on 9 - 255 will be within the spec OEM range - Cheers from Canada!

    😅 Man. Taking the rim and put on the car is the logic way to know if it fits. But I guest that many people like me wants have a better idea before buy the rims. What about the size? Number? My car is here and the rim is to sale on the Internet! A part the studs that is very difficult and I’m sure you won’t be able to explain the calculation need to be done to fits a 5x110 on a car with 3x112. This the expert knows! Is difficult. But your advice would help if you gave the size of the space for the wheel in the car body and how big “inches” I could go with the new wheels. Like that would be helpful.
