    A better handaling option to handling cats is to go back behind the fins, and push up so if you loose grip during a thrash it won't slice you and it acts as a natural handal bar

    A simple lesson for life. To catch big fish you need to use big bait. Ask for big deals if you sell. Ask the prettiest girl to dance. Dream big - then - put in the effort. Nice fish, guys!

    Try clipping the fins with wire cutters and the fish can eat it easier. Works well when using bullhead for large flathead catfish.

    hi what is the benefit for using circle hooks rather than other types is it only for release purpose or does it hook better, if it is only for release what can be a better hook to use if you want to take the grouper for lunch. the Avet you are using what size

    I have used them before and it’s a good way to keep the other catfish from taking your bait. I have not once caught a catfish using catfish. Surprisingly I have never caught a shark using a catfish but I have hooked into monsters that I never stood a chance of catching. A good way to use them for bait is two cut them into decent sized chunks depending on what you want to catch or the size of the catfish. I still usually use fish like jacks and mullet but if I’m almost out of bait I will usually be able to catch one. So a pretty good bait.

  • @724riff
    @724riff 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    the first cat you caught you cut the spines , but the one you casted in still had its spines , is there any reason why or does one work better than the other , I live in the indian river in FL and was curious can I use those on a balloon for tarpon , I mean will it work good like that , I know cats are hearty fish but ive never tried them as bait let alone in a stiff current on a balloon .

    you still use your penn 117l? (penn senaqtor 14/0) the "jaws reel" I was thinking about getting it for sharks from the surf here in cape cod, some makos,blue sharks, tigers and brown sharks all up to 6-7ft probably at the max. It would be a learning curve though, ive used spinning reels all my life and we would have to paddle out baits on a surfboard or something which would not be the best idea with great whites around lol. but you like the reel? havent seen you use have you replaced it?

  • @SaltyRob
    @SaltyRob 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Added tip vic when catch and release fishing with a jig switch your trebble hooks out with an “in line” j hook if you want to be a bit more sportsmanship or have safer handling of the fish. I hate it to when I gut hook a fish and there not in season or slotted. I live on the west coast and hate when I have to through back a canary rock fish. Side tip when deep drop fishing u can take a needle and pop the swim bladder and that sometimes gives the fish a chance at least to live. Most of the time you’ll throw then back and they get eaten ride away cause they simply float.to the top

    The saltwater catfish that I've caught around my area, northeastern NC, haven't been big enough to use as a good bait fish for something the size of a GG. I had no idea we even had them around here until a charter boat captain started recording catches of them a few years back. I knew they had once been in the area but because of over fishing I know their range had gotten a lot less than it once was. Good to know they are starting to rebound in certain areas. It would be nice if they were no longer considered critically endangered. Anyways good fishing, and as always good content. Keep doing what you're doing man.

    What pound line do you use

  • @denniswarren3211
    @denniswarren3211 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Easiest way to unhook a catfish is to take a dowel or I use an old large phillips head screwdiver and hold the line and your tool together with the tool going into the catfish mouth about the same distance the hook is in fish and twirl it. The line wraps around the round shaft till it gets to the hook and wraps around as well. If you are holding it over your livewell or overboard the fish drops off and you don't even touch it so you don't get stuck.

  • @Titus-as-the-Roman
    @Titus-as-the-Roman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I caught a 60+ lb (Highest my scale would go) Black Drum in Ochlockonee Bay using a hardhead cat about that size, I however cut it's head off right behind the fins (no sticky parts), took a couple of cheap brand fish oil capsules (the kind you take as a supplement), put them in its stomach and tied over the open cut end of the cat with light weight line. Between the stink of the fish and the capsules it was irresistible.

    For small cats I put one spine between my middle and ring finger...thumb behind the other and it leaves my pointer free to front the mouth while I dehook. No matter the wiggle I have a grip.
