This gentleman and video was God-sent!!! I had the privilege of having his assistance in trouble-shooting what I knew was going to be a costly and devastating problem with my NuTone IMA4406. He is funny, patient and extremely helpful and knowledgeable about his products! I can't thank him enough and please, tell your friends and relatives to check with him before going ANYWHERE else with any problems with NuTone products. Thanks again!!!
Excellent, thorough and informative. Thank you for all of this information. I purchased a townhouse with the IM4406 system. Some of my remote stations are not working, as well as CD. CD I don't care about. The radio and clock work fine on master. Any suggestions?
Hi Wally: There can be many reason for Remote Stations not working - This can be anywhere from broken and damaged wiring to the Remote Station needing to have its Volume Control and Pushbutton Switches cleaned. I always start with the simplest thing - clean the controls - Here's a link to our Video that shows what type of cleaner to get and how to perform the cleaning - th-cam.com/video/COruBSRkgCY/w-d-xo.html If the none working Remote Stations are Outdoor Stations - they likely have failed Speaker Cones - Chris
My nutone 4406 will not turn off. All lights are on (am, fm, tape, aux, timer) and just making a humming sound. I've pressed every button with no results
Hi Toby: NuTone no longer makes any Intercom equipment. The IMA4406 is on of the finest model that NuTone ever made and it's certainly worth repairing, especially if yours has this "know problem". It's always less expensive to repair a Master Station than doing a whole system upgrade. - Chris

I have the same system. Mine is making a clicking sound without turning anything on. Does it randomly throughout the day. Can it be repaired? Whats a rough estimate to fix it instead of replacing? Or would i be better off replacing entire head unit?
Hi David: You probably don't have a problem with your Master Station - The clicking noise is coming from the Audio/Intercom Relays inside the IMA4406. These are probably being activated because of a problem with either a Remote Station or the wiring that connects a Remote Station to the Master Station. What you need to do, to prove this theory is, Open the Master Station - Unplug the 5 Cables that connect the Master Station to the Terminal Board - then wait 2 days to see if the clicking still occurs (I'm betting it won't) - This Video will help you do all of this troubleshooting: th-cam.com/video/ZpwjqFXqC3g/w-d-xo.html Watch starting at 2:17 - Chris
Hi HungNguyen: You can't - The "Door Talk" button must be pressed down and held to keep the System in "Talk" - as soon as you release the button, the System goes into "listen" mode - Once you stop pressing buttons, the System begins to "Time-Out" and reverts back to Music or Stand-by - Chris
please show the board on which you are replacing the part. Two power supply transformers are used, one was no secondary, replace transformer but no sound. do you think I should replace ia-29 door chime board?
+sattar shaikh You can find detailed information about this type of failure on our website: northsideforyourhome.squarespace.com/ Your transformer failure was likely caused by the power module failure. The IA29 has nothing to do with this type of problem
Hi Reverse: Probably not - This Video explains why not: th-cam.com/video/ePFeg4Dka4Q/w-d-xo.html You can add an External Audio Jack to your IMA4406, which allows you to connect external music sources - Here's a Video about how to do that: th-cam.com/video/OUKz-DPnAT4/w-d-xo.html Chris

Hi Dave: IS it a IM4406 or a IMA4406? There's never a simple fix for CD players - I have never seen one with a bad safety switch or any other peripheral switch or sensor. - Chris
Hi Joseph: Yes, we are doing repair everyday. . . Please fill out an Intercom Repair Request Form and once I receive it - I'll contact you about the problem with your IM/IMA4406 and its repair Here's a link to the Repair Request Form: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdQHT6fVgm25twaXFeCkkgeITEfAE_zlRBry6B8-GbIs19wcQ/viewform?formkey=dF9RVjBQMFQ5S0xYbTBHMHRoNkVkRFE6MQ Chris
Hi Roxanna: Yes - No - Sometimes - Maybe. It all depends on why it's not working. Sometimes the Master Station has other problems that prevent the CD Player from working correctly (even though you may not be aware of this this problem) Sometimes it's just the CD Player that has failed. Attempting a repair on a CD Player is difficult and often it's full of land minds that will get you when you least expect it. Sometimes these types of repairs will not hold up over time, because while the immediate cause of the problem can be solved - the normal "age-related" failure which will happen to all CD Players sooner or later will occur. If this happens within a short amount of time after the repair, the customer will not be happy and will not understand that it's beyond our control (I just paid you to fix it 4 months ago!!!!). And then there's the cost involved - a typical CD repair will cost many hundreds of dollars - more than what most people will spend to play CD's. We have a more modern alternative - Our External Audio Jack - Here's a link to 2 Video about this: th-cam.com/video/OUKz-DPnAT4/w-d-xo.html and: th-cam.com/video/MKkaZfLs3lo/w-d-xo.html Chris
Follow up to vinny's question: Vinny called me to discuss his IMA4406 - It is most likely a Lightning Damaged Master Station. The Lightning Strike was more than 1 year ago and the IMA4406 was left Powered Up - in its failed state for that amount of time. Based on the description of the failure immediately following the lightning Strike and over the following year - it is unlikely that this IMA4406 can be repair without a replacement Microprocessor Board. Since Lightning Damage is rarely confined to 1 part of any Master Station - it is also very likely that this IMA4406 will have much more wrong with it. The reality is that while this type of damage many be repairable - it will be at a much higher cost than is average - Vinny is thinking over his choices on how to proceed - Chris
Hi Mr Mr Jims: If the Master Station is connected to the 2 Transformers and the 2 Transformers are connected to the Electrical System and the Electrical System is powered up, the Master Station turns on on its own - There isn't any "on" Switch. If the Master Station is not "on" and all of the requirements shown above are being meet - Check the 2 Transformers, they should be suppling between 18.5 - 20.8 Volts AC each. If the Transformers are ok - then you have a problem with the Master Station - If the Transformers are dead - they have blown Fuses - which can be repaired - and you may have a Master Station problem also - Chris
