I have a 2020 FXBB and live on the beach. After just over one month of ownership the spokes are already starting to rust. The spoke wraps are a great idea - much better than rust spotted wheels!
And so this comes across my feed and I see a regular guy teaching his kid the right way. I heard somewhere that if you get your kids addicted to bikes, they won’t have money or time for drugs 😂😂 Greetings and salutations from Florida, keep up the good work, new sub here 👍
Adding spoke wraps now too. probably the cheapest thing you can do to a harley to change the look . Thanks again for another idea I am stealing. U DA MAN!
Been following your channel for a while now and this is honestly my favourite content on youtube. Always excited when you post a new vid. Love the progress on the bike. Keep it up man!
another TOP vid mate, never considered wraps to change the look on spokes, thought I had to change the spokes on my FXBB, looks like you have saved me some $$$ Cheers Keep it up
You buy the silver spokes and add the black skins...that way you have both options for black and silver whenever you want and there cheaper than the black spokes.
A paper cutter would be more consistent, also, put the slot to the backside of the spoke. A spray adhesive would keep it true but you'll be cleaning if you decide to remove.
Hello from a pissy wet & gale force windy 🌬🇬🇧 🍺👍🏻; good cheap fix to the spokes looks canny 👍🏻 Can’t wait to see if & when you get the upgraded rims Stay safe & have a beer ✌🏻
I've just done mine,as stated a real ball ache of a job ( wheels on the bike) no one has explained what d to do where the spokes cross,I found I couldn't get the two covers to meet in the none existent gap in the cross..I'd still do it again. it took me around 8hrs, the back wheel is difficult to say the least.
Mate I found a method that worked really well with the back wheel and the tight gap between the spokes. I installed the wraps so that the opened side of the wrap was facing out and the closed section of the wraps were touching each other back to back where the spokes touch. When the wraps were back to back they were able to fit in the tight gap and not force eachother off the spoke where the split is. The whole process took me around 1.5 hours. Hope that makes sense it's quite difficult to put into words.
@@TheGingybeardMan Thanks for that,I'd worked it out as it was the only way to go, although they still sit a little " open" ie see the spoke a little..there is no gap between the spokes, nor should there be if alls tight as they should be,I'm still happy with the results..and it took me all that time as I'm "older " now ha ha and working outside in a UK autumn/winter.
After 12 months I didnt get any rust on my spokes. A preventative measure could be applying some form of rust resistant lubricant on the spokes before applying the covers.
I havnt serviced the bike myself just yet as it's still under warranty. I'll service the bike myself after the warranty has run but that's in another 2 yrs 👍
@@JustLivingfortheday no man I dont get free services but if anything goes wrong with my bike and I can't show it was serviced by harley Davidson then my warranty would be voided.
Fat spoke rims are dope 🤙🤙 just gotta start saving my pennies to buy some. I think it'll come close to $3500 when I buy rims, tyres and have em fitted 😪
I have same wheels and did the spokes, but I’m getting some wind/rattling noise. And I’m not sure if it’s from the spokes. Are you experiencing any wind rattling?
I have not experienced any wind noise or rattling. I've heard a few street bob owners say they have discovered there is a sticker on the under side of the belt guard which comes loose and drags on the belt causing a rattle noise when riding. I wonder if that may be the spund you're hearing.
So I’m gonna go ahead and order some today I have a 2015 street bob FXDB. Well, any size work or do I need to specify when I make the order because bicycle spokes seem to be much smaller than a Harley they are very thick.
@@brodyrichard263 the website I bought them off was called thirdgear. The spoke diameter they stated they would fit were up to 4mm. Thirdgear no longer sells the black spoke wraps I bought. You will need to read the ad description or ask the supplier what size diameter spokes they will fit.
@@TheGingybeardMan aww spewing they just turned up today they were out of black so had to get green with black and got 2 packs so now I’ll be short I’ll have to get one more
The rear spokes on my street bob touch too, you just need to manipulate the closed side of the spoke wrap in between where the spokes touch. It's tideious but can be done.
What a shit of a job that would have been. But I gotta say, looks good, I'm not one for alot of chrome either. Do you like the spoke look? Or would you look at other options, just alot more hassle with spokes, (cleaning, repairing etc) anyway, enjoy the rain, see ya next time. 👍
I havnt seen any rust as of yet however have heard alot of people suggest the spokes will rust. I don't plan on keeping these rims long term so it doesn't particularly bother me 👍
Looks great really like the black spokes. When you swap out the wheels, will you move up to a 180 mm 18 inch rear tire? Currently have a 2019 Sllim thinking of doing the same, and thinking I need to move up to a 180mm or 200mm. Great video, Your bike is really coming together nicely. Keep up the great videos. Safe travels Dan
Yeah I was going to go with a 21 x 3.5 inch front wheel and 18 x 5.5 inch rear wheel which would fit a 180 or 200 rear tyre. I saw a bloke on Insta put a 5.5 inch rear wheel on his street bob and stated it fit the stock swing arm 👍. That's in the distant future though as that setup will cost me around $3500. Thanks for following the channel btw 🤙🤙🤙
Hi, just wondering why they give you 38 spoke covers when there are 40 spokes on a 21 inch Harley wheel and do you think they may trap moisture? Enjoyed your video a lot 🙂
Thanks mate, to be honest the spoke wraps seal really tight and I don't believe they will trap moisture. I dnt plan on keeping these wheels on the bike long term so it doesn't particularly bother me. The spoke wraps are a universal fit so 38 spokes is probably standard on alot of other motorcycles 👍
Thanks mate the package has some shorter ones for the back wheel so I think I’ll try and cut some of those to fit my remaining two spokes as I’m only doing the front. Cheers👍🏼
Hey, looks great. Job well done. What size is that you said for the skin spokes? 21 inches and the other one was 18 or 19? Thanks in advance and keep up the good videos.
Yes the spoke wraps come in two sizes 39 wraps for an 18 inch and 38 wraps for a 21 inch wheel. The street bob has a 19 inch front wheel and 16 inch rear wheel. I also had to buy 2 packets of spoke wraps as 38 per wheel isn't enough.
You can get the DNA mammoth wheels in many different sizes. I'll go with an 18x 5.5 inch rear and a 21 x 3.5 inch front. The wheels are tubeless but everyone recommends running tubes as they have been know to leak a little air through the spokes.
There made from ABS plastic which is fuel and UV resistant. These spoke wraps are pretty tough and durable as many people put them on dirtbike spokes which cop a hell of a lot more of a beating than my harley spokes 👍
Hey man I much prefer the m8 engine for performance and it also runs alot cooler than the twin cams. Another factor is the new gen softail frame and suspension is loads better than the Dyna and previous gen softails. Non the less the Dyna street bob is a bad ass bike.
