    Hey Cruiseman!
    Yes, I noticed the clicking on the right side of my 2023 DCT Tour! I also watched a video by you, regarding this same issue where you stated that it may be because the bike is leaning to the left, on the side stand and the oil level may be lower on the right side. You, suggested that someone had thought the issue was basically resolved by putting the bike on the center stand. Well, since I heard that suggestion I have been putting my bike on the center stand after a ride, and guess what, NO TICKING sound!!! I enjoy your Crown and Comments as well as your motovlogs, keep up the good works!

    My feelings about modulators, airbags, abs brakes, etc., is it’s an additional level of safety that can’t hurt.
    I started with Cardo and quickly moved to Sena. Personal preference. I’d never ever go with a subscription type model. Screw them!

    I wanted to send a note of thanks for your videos that helped me with my first ever DIY air filter change on my 2007 Goldwing. I knew from a sticker inside the left fairing pocket that it had a K&N air filter already but had no idea when it had been changed since I bought the bike used with 40,000 miles on it.
    I opted to simply replace the K&N filter with a new one figuring the cost savings of having the K&N filter by not doing multiple air filter changes was still worth it versus cleaning the existing filter. I still have no idea how many miles were on this filter before I bought the bike but I've put 38,000 additional miles on since I bought this bike in 2019.
    Thanks again for your great videos. I also love your product reviews and especially your Crown and Comments.

    I love the way you admit when you’re wrong. You could teach a class on it and I’ll be the first to enroll my lovely wife in that corse. 😅
    Also I couldn’t agree more on your statements on subscriptions. I just bought a new truck and XM RADIO is bombarding me with $5 offers. I was thinking of getting it for my 21 Goldwing just because the AM/FM antenna sucks so bad. After watching your video on how much fun it was trying to cancel XM I decided who really needs it when I have Apple car play. Anyway it’s always fun and educational watching you. Thanks again.

    Three comments: 1. Agree 100%, I too hate the subscription sales model. 2. Yes, my 2022 dct tour model does make a slight clicking noise which lessens considerably when warmed up. 3. DCT clutch problems have not materialized but seems to me Honda needs to cover clutch issues or as you say, make customers aware of the bikes limitations as slo🎉w speed manoeuvres is something all mc should be able to do. 😐

    • @sunrisejak2709
      @sunrisejak2709 ปีที่แล้ว

      All motorcycles can do slow speed maneuvers, including the Goldwing. It's just not normal operation to do 457 (or whatever) slow speed U-turns in an hour. Nobody ever has this scenario during normal use. I might need to do a tight u-turn once or twice a ride. Works perfectly fine. That's normal use. Asking something of the motorcycle that is well outside of normal expected operation is abuse. I don't need to "practice" slow speed maneuvers incessantly in order to competently operate my motorcycle. I love my DCT equipped Honda and have zero problems. I suppose if I went to the drag strip and abused the clutch on a conventional manual "practicing" brisk starts that it should not be considered abuse. I'm on my 3rd DCT bike (NC750X, XADV, and NT1100). All function perfectly. I don't do stupid shit. I'm not against rider safety programs. I think everyone should participate. But the unrealistic repetitive actions are just ridiculous and folks expect Honda to support such nonsense.

    Hi there Cruiseman. I have to tell you I’ve been able to do so much to my 2018 Gold Wing based on your reviews and suggestions. From adding lighting to updating the GPS/Radio firmware. Thank you for all the content you put out. I am sending you a comment today because you’ve hit in a couple of great points today. #1…Ive been a little distressed about that ticking sound on the right side of the engine on cold starts. GOSH it feels good to know it’s not just me!!! #2…. I absolutely agree with you about the subscriptions. Total and absolute BS of these companies making customers shell out more money for “premium” services. Make it good or don’t make it at all! Problem is that you have people who just don’t care about the money. I said my piece and will cut it here. Thanks again for all you do for the Gold Wing community.

    I'm a seasoned rider (72 years old) and now ride a 2008 G/W Airbag Model that I found crated in 2010 when I joined the American Legion Riders and needed a comfortable touring motorcycle. Got a great deal on it and figured that even though the airbag would only be beneficial in a head-on crash, that's at least something. In fact, the last crash I was involved in on a 2002 Suzuki 800 Intruder was a head-on after a pickup truck pulled in front of me. Fully agree with the "Subscriptions" which are now prevalent on several high-end motorcycle models also. Love your rants - but prefer Codigo 1530 Tequila to Crown Royal. I have now owned 7 motorcycles and not a single Harley. Love my 2008 G/W the best. Keep up the good work.

    Think I saw that vid about the ‘problematic’ DCT. Honestly, that should not happen with a new GW. Slow speed riding - like in city traffic - is common. If this happens to a new bike, I don’t care, that is a design flaw and Honda should fixe that.

    Right on Chris, the subscription model is BS. After my Black dies, goodbye Cardo. About the ticking: Service Manager at my dealer told me (more than a year ago) that American Honda dealer tech support told him its related to fuel injection, and is not a "problem". So your "characteristic" classification seems spot on (for now, until it becomes a "problem"). About the DTC: I have "reinitialized" (I think that's the term) my 2020 several times since new. Interesting button pushing process, but it does seem to reduce clunkiness and improves clutch engagement. Probably not related to the DTC failures, but something to recommend to all DTC owners. And to this CT Yankee, if I squint, I see a passing family resemblance to Trey. Great videos, as always, I learn something, often while being amused.

  • @edwardkellar8835
    @edwardkellar8835 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Chris, the main source from the engine clicking, is almost due 100 percent of the time from the bike being stored for a long period of time, as it rests on the side stand. My 3 gen, and 4th gen were very succeptable to this anomaly. Engine oil will drain down, and the front right cylinder is the suspect area. The clicking is a result of oil starvation to either the intake or exhaust valve. To prevent this, store the motorcycle on the center stand, if the bike is not to be ridden for an extended period of time.

    • @jag1963
      @jag1963 ปีที่แล้ว

      This makes a lot of sense to me I've 9000 miles on my 2022 DCT Tour and no clicking but then I never leave it on it's side stand. I always put it on the mainstand even if i am away from the bike for five minutes. And I have zero clicking from it so far.

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a plausible theory. I have wondered if it might be an oiling issue with oil not getting to the right side of the engine until warmed up.

    • @OrangeCrush57
      @OrangeCrush57 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I would agree with this, oil starvation would sound very different, much louder and more metallic, and would definitely lead to premature wear, from everything I've read this isn't happening. A more plausible explanation may be fuel injectors. This is a very quiet bike and engine sounds are much more audible then on my V twin. I've hear this sound on many late model GW's. I don't personally believe its anything to be concerned about.

    I was concerned about loose sound during idle and reving on my 2022 non tour. But I have almost 16,000 miles, 4 oil changes and I believe it still makes that sound. I've rode alot of freeway miles and city too and it have wound it out at least twice. Great strong motor. Very dependable so far. I asked a Honda mechanic the first week of ownership. He listened and said that is normal. I didn't believe him but I'm acting as if I do.

    I avoid subscriptions like the plague... can't stand that business model. I enjoy the Crown and Comments episodes! For the record, I purchased the 2018+ Goldwing Maintenance Series. I have a 2022 DCT and have added many extras/upgrades. The money spent has been recooped many-fold. I've used the videos for skid plate install, front wheel removal, rear wheel removal, headlight assy removal, lower cowl, middle cowl removal, side panel removal, etc etc. There's others out there, and to each his own, but you can't go wrong with these. These videos are clear, concise, and the production is top notch. I did take advantage of a previous 20% discount. I support Cruiseman's Garage. This message has been approved by DonaldLL

    I heard ticking from the right side valve cover of my brand new 2023 tour when I went to pick it up from the dealer last week. It was sitting outside on the side stand completely cold and the temperature was about 45 degrees when I started it to do a walk around inspection. I didn't have a helmet on and I was paying close attention to how it sounded. The tapping noise got my attention right off and I told the salesman that I was concerned about it so he got one of the mechanics from their shop to come listen to it. By the time the mechanic got out there, it had warmed up some and wasn't as pronounced but was still noticeable. It was still on the side stand running. He said it is caused by oil running away from the right cylinder head when it's on the side stand. I didn't completely believe him, but took it knowing it's under warrenty. I have less than 100 miles on it and haven't really noticed it the couple of times ive gotten to ride it. I think I'll start leaving it on the center stand when it's going to sit for extended periods between rides.

    Fully agree with you about subscriptions. Also, the Custom Cardo lacks features of the full cost model such as Edge's magnetic air mount, High end JBL sound system, 3 year warranty and the ability to charge while riding. So in essence even at the top subscription tier it still won't be equivalent to the full cost model.

    This makes me think about when I first saw ‘subscriptions’ when I did IT work. Mostly all software companies do this for revenue and in some cases it’s worth it. In the context you are speaking about here, it’s a terrible idea. The companies that do this get some passive income, and I think they actually hope the customer forgets about it (some will) and the revenue will keep coming for them!

    Love my 2022 DCT Tour Airbag! As you know the airbag is not new tech from Honda, and as a general rule Honda typically builds good stuff. This being my 3rd Wing I bought one. Can’t hurt is my thinking. 100% agree with you that no technology should make anyone complacent. Complacency in motorcycling has no place in safe motorcycling. No matter how many years you’ve been riding. Respect speed and the tarmac. Nothing takes the place of a rider’s responsibility to mitigate accidents. Also agree with a slight clicking sound at warmup and nothing concerning. Loving gthe DCT in all aspects of ownership. Thanks for the “neutral in traffic” idea. No to Subscriptions. Cardo’s subscription plan probably won’t scale like they’d like to see is my .2. It does seem Business models are changing. I think companies are doing their level best to squeeze out extra revenue wherever possible. Sales dictates prices. No/slow sales something will invariably get tweaked. Always thought provoking content Cruise. Ride safe and ride often. ATGATT.

    Speaking of subscriptions, "They" have been doing that for a while now with computer programs. It used to be we could buy a program for our computer and we could use it as long as we had the same Windows version on any computer. Now they have a subscription based program you pay by the month or year, and if you don't pay, you can access the program, but you can't do anything in it, so it is basically useless other than looking at old information in the program. I believe they are finding out they can get a steady revenue this way instead of having a customer buy the program every 5 years or so. I would not buy something like a headset or a car that I had to pay a subscription for. Everyone is finding new ways to get more of our hard earned money!

    Agree with you on the subscription concept. Just another money grab. Really like my Cardo Freecom 4, but if I was buying another unit, it would not be a Cardo given this new model. Makes no sense to me.

    I feel some scripture about drinking is appropriate at this point. In Acts 2:15, St Peter addressed the crowd and said, "These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! "

    1. I am not a Goldwing owner but love your videos. 2. I will NOT subscribe to a Cardo. I own a Bold and a Black but will go elsewhere in the future if that is their new model. If that is Cardo's model moving forward and I have to replace one. I will buy 2 Sena's without batting an eye. Cardo, are you paying attention?

    Collisions are all different.. I hit a deer at 45 and was able to steer my way to the side of the road.. An airbag would have prevented me from steering and probably would have caused me to go down.. 40-50% of motorcycle crashes are alcohol related. One beer, one glass of wine or a shot puts an average person at. 025.. There is a dulling of fine motor skills starting at this point and significant impairment begins at. 04.. Just don't drink any alcohol and drive any vehicle and it will significantly lower your chances of being in a collision.

    Hey Cruiseman, I fully agree with you on the subscription thing, but the greedy people who allow this stuff are sticking it to us as much as possible. People like me who live on Social Security and can't afford all the ridiculous subscription fees have to put up with junk that's not appropriate and sometimes pornographic.
    I noticed on one of your last VLOGS where you are having trouble with your hips. I have similar problems and had to switch to a trike - Can-Am Spyder RT - even though there are a lot of two wheel bikes I would love to be able to throw a leg over.
    Lastly, I saw where Victory motorcycles are on the market again. I certainly hope you get to test ride one of their touring models. I believe your commentary is more honest than some I have watched and you tell it like it is instead of how you wish it was. TCRS - Take Care, Ride Safe.

    Hello Cruiseman, I have been having an issue with my navigation. At times when my navigation screen is in play, I will hit a slight bump in the road and it will return to the blue function screen. It doesn't do this all the time. Just some of the time. I have brought it up to the Honda technician at the dealership and wondered if doing a diagnostic test would uncover the problem, But I am thinking that it would have to be acting up at the time the test was being conducted in order for it to be detected??? They all tell me that they have never heard of that problem. Have you ever experienced that issue or have you ever heard of that issue. My name is Craig and I have a 2021 DCT non tour model.

      Sounds like a short or loose wire somewhere. I would start by removing the seat, unplugging all of the cables from the audio unit and plugging them back in securely, but that is a long-shot.

    Chris, on your trunk removal video, do you cover how to disconnect the CB antenna, and then how to install it in the new trunk if you have the CB radio like I do? I have your maintenance videos and I am seriously considering upgrading to the bigger trunk. If had it to do over again however I would not have a CB radio installed in my Goldwing. I have been very disappointed with how they work with the Bluetooth headsets. One last thing, I am a Cardo user but the idea of having to purchase a subscription to get the features that you want is just stupid. I'm very disappointed that Cardo would even consider that. You buy the unit for the features that it has, not for the ones it doesn't have!

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a video on that, but it is fairly simple. I just removed the right side panel on Dale's bike when we swapped trunk lids and he does have a CB installed. You have to remove the two bolts from the inside, then when you pull the side cover away from the trunk, the antenna will come with it. From there, it will be pretty obvious how to remove the antenna. If you are planning to install the CB antenna on your new trunk, you would need to obtain the drilling template from Honda to know where to drill the new holes.

    I don't think strobing brakelights or airbags make people feel as though they're safer or need to stop learning new riding techniques personally. I know I don't think about how my brake lights strobe while I'm on the bike and riding and I'd argue that people who have airbags don't consistently think about how they have them while they're riding down the road either. Just my take

    About the new technology ABS and HSTC it saved me several times from locking a tire or doing a wipeout on wet (humid) pavement from too much power to the back wheel. A guy I know with a Harley with no HSTC did a wipeout on a street corner and broke his leg in 3 places, so much for learning the hard way, I will take the technology🙏
    About the modulating front light, there is a strong risk the car driver could interpret this as a sign, an invitation to pass, and cause the accident , I would think twice about using this device.
    About the airbags, I chose not to buy one because I couldn’t imagine they would help sine we don’t have a seat belt but on second thought the engineers who designed them must have seen some advantages. I suppose if it reduce the severity of and impact and somewhat cussions it then it is a valuable help. 🤔🤨😁🏍️

    I think it's a huge stretch to say that people who use the mentioned safety equipment feel they don't have to be as good a rider if they use the safety devices. I can't disagree more on that one. The best riders I know use all the best safety gear, all the time. Does wearing your helmet make you ride recklessly? I really doubt it.

    I don't agree with you on some things but in regard to subscription-based features, we couldn't agree more. This is a disturbing trend for consumers. BMW is making heated seats (and other features) subscription based in their cars. There is no reason (other than greed) for paying a subscription for a feature that already baked into the product. Sena would be VERY SMART to not implement subscription-based features, I think they could capture the market. And by the way, you can change the battery on a Sena. I found a TH-cam video and was able to change the batteries on mine.

    Subscriptions for a tangible good you have already paid for are completely unacceptable . I have lots of subscriptions, XM radio, Netflix, Apple TV, etc, they offer a service for fee. Cardo, I bought the device, it’s in my hands but now you’re telling me I need to pay money to make it fully functional, NOPE. But even car and bike manufacturers are doing it, not cool.
