- Lyrics:
I can't stay, yes I know
You know i hate to go
But goodbye, love was sweet
Our worlds can never meet
(chorus)
so I'll cry just a little 'cause I love you so
And I'll die just a little 'cause I have to go
Away
Can't you see how I feel
When I say love's unreal
But goodbye, it's been sweet
Even though incomplete
(RC)
Every night I still hear
All your sighs very clear
Now love's gone, gone away
As I once heard you say
Now I've cried just a little 'cause I loved you so
And I've died just a little 'cause I had to go
Ahh... Ahh... Ahh... Ahh...
I heard this on the radio while driving home from the airport just now, went to look up what it was on my phone during a red light and realized my phone was dead. So I spent the next 45mins or so repeating some of the lyrics out loud so I could look it up when I got home lol! I'm 29 years old and somehow had never heard this song before but it may be my new favorite, criminally underrated.
I'm 56 and I had never heard of these guys.
That is so cool that you are that young and like this song. I'm in my sixties and I love it as well. I think it's the two guitars that seemed to talk back and forth to each other that hook me.
they were one of the best ever.......still have the album........i'm 73
@@2pikbone ......Really ...??? Oh my. I'm 60 something, really enjoyed thier music .... " Laugh ,Laugh " is brilliantly written, the Harmonies are fabulous and great musicians...and a solid drum line on that song as well.
@@brianbyczek3042 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙂
My mother sang me to sleep with this in a voice so sweet i cant describe it. Miss you momma im lost without you
Wow, what a sound! True classic from this great band!
I am 64 years old now and boy do I recall this one. I had my first car then. Gas was 45 cents a gallon and all the music was great at that time. Thanks, you made me put a big smile on my face.
Great stuff. Put a smile on my face, too. I remember when gas was 27cents a gal. I could fill up my 67mustang for maybe 10 bucks tops. Then go cruising central, in downtown Mpls. MINN. Have the 'radio' blasting. Those were some good ol memorys days. Wouldnt trade em if i could.
The drum beat and vibrato guitar is something that really set the Beau Brummels apart from other bands of the 60's. The lyrics are sad in the resolve of losing a girl you love, but realizing it will never work. A 60's masterpiece.
that's a tremolo effect on the guitar
Muito bom
don't say sad, say haunting, sounds better
I've always loved 60's vibrato guitar! Another good example is The Monkees theme song 🙂🎸
Loved the beauty and haunting guitars and progression of this great song.A band from San Francisco. I played drums in a band led by my brother Dave and these two Beau Brummel songs were about the only singing songs we did at sock hops we played at at St. Ed;s in Austin Texas.Too bad todays music doesn't have a clue of what their doing anymore. This song says a lot. Beautiful guitars, message, words, and rythym. Nice bass a nd drums too. I'm Bill Sutton.
At 66 years old, I remember them well. I always considered their big hit, "Laugh Laugh" to be their best, but I've changed my mind. This one gets my vote now.
Me too.
I agree with you. This was always my favorite of theirs. Today’s so called music sucks.
I'm 66 and they we're a big part of my growing up. Good band
Totally . I been thinking about this one a lot more lately .
I had to think about it, but Laugh, Laugh is too special - nothing like that tune, but good comment
Born in 1962.
So grateful for my oldest brother, my uncle, and others who fed me the great music from those days as I was growing up.
Thinking about those great times as another year comes to an end tonight.
Oh man I grew up in sixty's I cannot begin to tell what you missed the wonderment the innocence the freedoms the era that cannot be repeated.
JCrater It really makes me happy to see people so young who are into old music like this. I'm only 38 and people are surprised that I listen to it.
The 60's usered in a new era. 50 years ago today, we were on the Moon!
True..the bloody 60s
Sixties.
graduated in 1965 the music was great
This song is so hauntingly beautiful.
The Beau Brummels were a very underrated bans from the 60's , good music !
I was 17 when this was a hit. And I still have all my vinyl records. Still dance to them too. It keeps me in great shape.
I want to go back to 1965..
I saw these guys in 1965 at the Big Bam Show at Garrett Coliseum. Great show. Also saw the Turtles, Lou Christie, The Electric Prunes and Animals. Didnt realize at the time I was witnessing some of the greatest rock in history. Love the B.Brummels.
The electric prunes--man you just hit a huge memory nerve in my brain--how cool!!
I remember this song on the AM Radio in Sacramento...either KXOA 147 or KFRC when I was a Kid...What a great time to grow up in the USA!!
2024 they still play the song in El Centro California the AM station 1230 El Centro California and sometimes I played in Mexicali Mexico a 990 a.m.😮😅😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤😅
The radio station
The acoustic and electric guitars just rule! The whole recording is amazing for the sixties. The vocals and the drums just sounds live.Bring back masters and reel to reel.
Idc
Incredible song! One of the over-looked greats..
This song just popped into my head after 50 years--I had to look it up and listen to it 5 times--love the little sadness in this song and takes me back to like 4th grade when you think your in total love with your classmate! I could not think of the name of this group if my life depended on it--still enjoy!
One the coolest songs to come out of the 60s.
Right on❤❤😂😂🎉😊😊😊❤
I have loved this song for YEARS and never took the time to learn who sang it. Now I know and I love them more. Every time I hear this song, I have this compelling emotion. Makes me feel pretty good. That's a definition of good music to me.
EVERY song of theirs is great!! And even the covers they are cool!! The true beginning of sun drenched Californa 60's rock!
Popped into my head this morning from out of nowhere.....loved this song back in the day and it's still with me.
They were pure genius in marketing their name! Their records were right behind the Beatles on the record
store shelves.
Dick Clark called 1965 his favorite year in music..you had surf, folk, motown, british invasion and the beau brummels.
I saw them and talked to the lead singer for quite a while way back in about 1986 at the Flamingo Hotel in
Santa Rosa, CA. I felt SOOOOO bad for them because there were only about 50 people there to appreciate them...my wife and I among them. He said to not feel bad, it was just part of the rock music game. I gave them a fat tip, thanked them, and had a great time dancing to, and and enjoying their songs. Seriously, I wish all of this was different.
Many years ago...I went to a 'record' store (specifically) to get the Beau Brummels' GREATEST HITS. There was a (DOUBLE) CD...of theirs. The 'strange' part...is that the (2) CDs cost $80! Other (DOUBLE) CDs...at that time...were in the $19--$29 range. I 'bought it'...anyway. To my surprise...the CDs had (numerous) 'takes'...of the SAME SONGS! Very Strange. I listened to this...ONE TIME...and 'that was it'. HELEN REDDY had the (same) 'experience' as the BEAU BRUMMELS (here in Atlanta, Ga). She gave a concert here that had NO PUBLICITY. Only a 'handful' of people SHOWED UP! So 'embarrassing'. But...that's the 'MUSIC BIZ'...for you. You're a 'headliner'...one day...and a 'has been'...the next.
+Carl Cooley at least you've got the chance to see then. I wasn't even born
but look how lovely from 50 people in audience now in youtube, exposed to a guy like me who is only 40 years old
i used to e mail sal to say hello
Hey Carl! Was the lead singer Sal Valentino? I heard he cut from the group early on and he was replaced by another singer.
I had forgotten this great group and song. What a blast from the past great music.
These guys played all over the Bay Area- Favorably received
Listened to these groups on my transister radio as a kid. One of my favorite songs!
This song is beautifully composed. 와우~~~
One of the best instrumental breaks in pop/rock history.
Simple...and hauntingly beautiful.
We resurrected this great song, playing it at "Rockin' Red, White, and Blues", benefit for wounded veterans.....the crowd loved it!
The Beau Brummels helped define 1965 and their music,to me, was positively unforgettable.
+ Danny Sordello Thanks Danny! My band played some of the popular tunes from the 60's &70's like "laugh laugh" and other hits from that era! People still like them(as well as their kids) to this date!
Danny Sordello exactly! I was about 14.
They helped define the West coast rock thing. And it ushered in so many bands and people. But I have adored them from my childhood. Long before I was aware of their opening a door. They are amazing. Just as damn good as the stuff that was floating around at that time. Or better!
The Beau Brummels were the most important band to come out of America after the British Invasion
60 years on and still terrif! Right up there with "Laugh, Laugh".
The Beau Brummelstones.
The Beau Brummels and others. '65 was a very good year.
Summer of 65 Satisfaction was #1 all summer long....a record never broken as far as I know.
it was the best for first girlfriend for me
Nextaxpro - '65 was a great year in many ways. The music was beautiful and I mean it.
Debra Rowley I agree, and they were a GOOD Band. The BEATLES inspired MANY artist to Produce some Great Songs, but the Harmonies on this Song especially in the beginning is HORRIBLE!!!
@@JamesBond-ml3zp - Well, the song isn't a fugue in D minor, but I like it.
What a beautiful song. I first heard it 2 years ago. Love it.
Well, yes .......I did graduate in 1970 from high school......so I grew up with songs like this.......but, I appreciate songs like this and others....from that time period more and more as time goes on.
I graduated in 1971, still loved them all!
@Rhonda Boncutter 74 here , I always liked this music
Graduated 1971 so I also grew up in a great time for music
Me too, in New Jersey
I Graduated in '71, So I Know How You Feel!
This guy's voice had so much passion in his songs. Great Group.
I think this was their follow up to Laugh laugh. Made the top 40 in So Cal (they were an SF band). We kids all liked it . .
From what I am hearing here, this is really one nicely recorded song... a lot of dynamic and deep range on this song and really clear vocals -- surprisingly so.
This was so ahead of it's time.... mind boggling.
Awesome! 60’s at its best!
One of the best songs of my youth!!
Been playing this song since the ‘60’s
What a great song by the Beau brummels and they were from America I wished it would be played on the radio more don't understand why not
one of the best American bands hands down! I cherish this band and what they gave..♥ No bullshit just ...really, man.
That little guitar riff is lifted from Rumble, by Link Wray. Rumble was the 1950's song that inspired a legion of early guitarists, including Jimmy Page.
Works well there
THANKS PAULO ! ! ! That was one of my favorite songs of the early 60's.
Hauntingly beautiful....
They were San Francisco before there was a San Francisco " scene ". They are huge. To those who know. My brother Desmond had their songs and we sang along with their tunes. I am proud to be a singer of these great true American songs. Im miss you Dessie♥
had a band in these days, bunch of guys from high school, had the instruments like these guys, the best stuff,fender,Gibson,150.00 each for guitars that now cost thousands, tube amps put out this sound on the best equipment then and now,but.......the voices and talent these guys had,UNREAL
Boy that's one beautiful hit I love em all .peace and much love.
Ahh! The Beaubrummelstones!👍🏾👍🏾
Love that twangy guitar sound.
oh damn what a gem...thank you Paulo Henrique &you tube
One of the first great San Francisco bands!
Ron Elliott one of the most underrated song writers ever.
I have this album. I use to play it over and over. Loved it!
Compared to today's crap, this is SO refreshingly good!
How true!!!!!!!!!!
Kirk Barkley amen to that wish l was back in the 60s
These guys came out a year or so before Jefferson Airplane. There was also another SF group called Sopwith Camel that played venues in the Bay Area.
Kirk Barkley thank u I agree
I know right? If only today's music could have the same soul......but it just doesn't.
I knew this song when I was growing up and also "Laugh, Laugh". I never knew how adorable the lead singer was!
Outstanding!
Beau Brummels ,Classics 4,Question Mark and the mysterians, among some of my favorites...except for the war,a pretty good time to grow up..Hot Rods ,and Rock and Roll...
On this day in 1965 {June 26th} the Beau Brummels performed "Just A Little" on the LA-based TV program 'Shivaree'...
Two months earlier on April 17th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #8 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100...
It was the groups biggest hit; they had four other records make the Top 100 in 1965 with "Laugh, Laugh" just missing making the Top 10, it reached #15 and also stayed on the Top 100 for 12 weeks...
I was 15 years old when the Beau Brummels preformed this song! I haven't heard it for ages!
I never, ever get tired of my original Brummels vinyl. Uprated, shared.
saw them in person in 1966...along with The Turtles and Bobby Goldsboro...love The Beaus.
This was a song that I loved listening to on AM rock/pop radio back then and then practicing on my acoustic 6-string.
Me too
AM 800, Detroit; AM 1230 Toledo
KJR 950 AM Seattle Wa!..
KYA 1260, San Francisco
The 60's were the best. So much great music, everything from Sinatra to the Beatles to the Beau Brummels to the Stones to the Beach Boys and everything else. All on one radio station. No more.
A great song extremely well recorded produced by Sly Stone long before he became a great artist himself
Love the Twangin Guitars in this song & in "Here comes the night"
The guitar tremelo sounds so sweet
Yes!!
this is a groovy song!
This song just smolders with cool.
Brings back a lot of memories!
Excellent group I grew up with this group
Man,what an awesome song, I'm just going to stop listening to new music all together and just go backwards, because the music was so much better.
That's what I do, guitar porn..No matter how they try to copy our music. Can't do it.
Another classic from back in the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I'm not mistaken,SLY STONE (of Sly and the Family Stone)was their discoverer and producer.I read that Sly was a DJ in San Francisco in the mid sixties.....the Beau Brummels we're from the Bay Area ,I think......
I was honored to see & hear them live in 1966 in seattle in front of 15,000 fans & when they played laugh, laugh it was so Great! They were so tight with their harmonies & that harmonica with lead vocal, it was haunting. They didn't need the wrecking crew.
I love the sound of the old mono...it has a richness to it.
Cool, but this is stereo here [lead voice on the rt, BH harmonies on the left].
Super Great music !! Period End of story !! 👍🏻👍🏻🤓
I love this band so much! I'm going to San fransisco in a couple of weeks and I'll try to get a little peek of John (the drummer)'s old house. Can't wait!
Wow! the first concert I ever went to in 1966 (the year I got my Florida Drivers License)
Eau Gallie (now Melbourne), Fla. I always thought they were FROM the U.K. but from Wiki I see S.F. Ca. 1964.
My last concert? 25 years ago, Jackson Browne's 'World in Motion' tour, Park West Ski Resort here in Utah.
I always thought Jackson Browne was FROM out of this world (right on this one)
A world of difference..sigh..
I was in the U.S. Navy when I bought this album, damn I'm old.
Chuck Berry yes, yes you are
that would make you about the age my late oldest brother would have been. he graduated in 65
Chuck Berry not old! Beautiful!
Naw life is just beginning...
LOL -Thx
I was a teenybopper with my first guitar when this song was new. Beatlemania was in full swing and a lot if not most people thought the Beau Brummels was a British invasion band. The attire and the name very clever, the name a super clever idea as Beau put them right next to the Beatles in the LP record bins at the store. Check out Bradley's Barn one of their later albums. Great songs on that one too. I play a selection of their songs at open mics, just for fun and music appreciation and sharing. Rock on. They're like an American Beatles, that good.
Great mix of this song. Loved them since the mid-60s.
luv it! much appreciation for posting the lyrics, this video,1rst time i hearing..helps me sing stronger..🙏💝🌺🎶🎙🎶
Loved these guys, and Jerry and the Pacemakers.
Masterpiece.
This Song Went To Number 8 On The Billboard Hot-100 Chart In 1965.
Just a little more of this rock n roll I love it . peace.
Love this song and I so wish to God I was born in 1969 and not '85. The best times I miss so much.
BB's were about gone by '69. Maybe you mean '49? 🙂
I'm with ya Diane. One of the first songs we sang and played guitar to on the big wooden porch of my friends farm house. I think we were about 13 years old !!
this song is such an earworm woke up at 1 pm with an urge to listen to this not even knowing where i heard this, i asked myself for just a little more time to sleep and got up at four and the stupid song was still on my head
Beau Brummels, Zombies and The Asociation were three underrated bands during the sixties
Clan Cherokee is 100% on the money. A time that will never come again that is so near and dear to those who were in it!! I was a kid so I had it probably better than anyone-- Born in June 1960. It was Happenin'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
한국노래 ~오정선 '마음'
이렇게 들으니 새롭네요~^^
First time I have heard this song in years and yet I still remember every word!
but can't remember what I just had for lunch. lol
Great song that's been kinda forgotten so thanks bringing it back. Lost my wife Karen 6 months ago so this song is very fitting.
This group were from San Francisco like me. And I know one member at least went to Sacred Heart High school like me. I was a freshman in 1965 when this song and album came out. If I remember correctly they even played at one of the SH high school dances that year.
Awesome, Charles. It is great to read such a memory from that time, I wish to live that same year as you. Thank you!
Just one of so many, many, many '60s greats!!! What a decade for music!!! 6/2019
I heard this song long time a go but I don't know what a name a of this group..I think this group name is the TROGGS ......the.Beau Brummels..
