I am a 75 year old female fan of Tool and particularly Maynard. I discovered Tool late, meaning in the last six months, during my recovery from breast cancer surgery. I am so fortunate to have not missed this experience. What joy I have had! Truly. I have listened to Fear Inoculum daily, as well as every other recording of Tool. I listen with my iPhone and a low priced set of earphones. I looked up the proceeds to musicians for listening through my iPhone music. I feel like I’m cheating the musicians for not purchasing the “physical” music. (I’m trying to find the best way to reward you, the musicians. How can I support your music the best way possible, considering my age and abilities? I guess I need to visit an Apple Geek. Just know I love your music, your talents.

This might be my favorite tool/Maynard post I’ve ever read. I wish you well and I hope you delve into some of their other music particularly lateralus, 10000 days and ænima. The earlier stuff is a but angry so if you want to dive deep into your own anger feelings if you come across that undertow can help you really feel it better than any expression of pure hate and rage that’s both prog rock at its heaviest and also beautiful undertow is Amazing. And don’t worry they get paid by Apple to have the music streamed. A lot.

My wife and I were in Cottonwood, AZ a couple years ago and we randomly ended up walking right past Maynard as we were leaving a nice little breakfast place, we totally made eye contact and I could tell he was thinking "please don't talk to me, please don't talk to me, please don't talk to me." I love his bands but I also know he's not a fan of 40 year old neck beards like me gushing over his music so we walked right past him.

I ran into him, while wearing a perfect circle shirt ! In the flat iron Cafe there in Jerome, which is a tiny little coffee shop, he was the only person in there and looked right at me and then at my shirt then back at me with the please don't ruin my morning look on his face ... I couldn't think of anything intelligent to say so I just gave him the nod, showing I recognized him but wasn't going to shatter the peace of his morning... I ordered my coffee and sat there listening to maynard and the batista chatting and even got to take part in the convo about the weather and the river and such ... as he left he gave me a nod , probably his way of thanking me for not making a scene... honestly I panicked and couldn't think of anything good to say... other than I've seen Tool 20 times and now I'm going to kidnap you!! 😂

She calls me back and announces “I’m in love!” My sister caught word and checked out the same stuff. She calls me and she’s speechless, fighting back the tears. A lot like Steve O was at a point in this video. My sister is a neurologist in her 50s. My sister and Steve O don’t have much more in common than being human. Hey Everyone, as a session musician/singer/performer.. at 48:00, Maynard answers the question which I've read so many posts about on here -"H'es lost his voice", etc.. And individually said this in response... Not many people realize how difficult it is to do what Maynard does so well WITHOUT wrecking their voice for the remaining songs in a set list. He perfectly describes it, better than I could.... And my family's musical pedigree is gigantic, I learned from THE BEST. So for all of you who think he is just naturally and emotionally venting - he is to a large extent. But live, it is a very controlled, clinical way of doing things as not to wreck his voice too early during a set. And that is why TOOL list the live songs the way they do. The same also goes for Danny Carey, because of the incredible load of sounds he triggers. A balance always has to be struck correctly.

Everyone who says he is arrogant, doesn't respect or understand what it's like being an introvert with the kind of fame he has.
Just because you are a fan of someone, doesn't mean they owe you any attention. They are human also, and have a right to choose whether they want to interact with you or not.
I know if I was in his position I would dread someone coming over to me and make a scene.

1:13:39 "The ability to let that which does not matter truly slide". I was finally given that mind set after I "hit rock bottom". It was the best thing that had ever happened to me. When it happened it was like a giant door in my mind was open for the first time and I could finally see, like my mind had been reprogramed. I believe that everyone is living in a bubble, metaphorically speaking, and are unable to see outside of that bubble. When you open certain doors in your mind it expands that bubble, and when I hit rock bottom it expanded that bubble to the point where I thought it had been completely removed. It wasn't until years later through my own ignorance that I finally realized that the bubble was still there, it had only been expanded. Life experiences, thoughts, smells, tastes, things you see, hear, feel, anything can trigger one of these doors to open at any point so it's good to close yourself off from the world once in a while and just go searching in your mind, you never know when you might find a key.

This is the first episode of your podcast that I've seen/heard/realized that you do, and i gotta say man, you have earned another subscriber. You totally hooked me with MJK (favorite band for the last 25-30 years) and I'm not only surprised, but impressed at the way you professionally conducted the interview (except for that one moment where you almost gargled his marbles on camera, for free i might add) and were fun but not a dork. Great job man, I'm officially addicted to ANOTHER thing now

Can't thank you enough for this interview, great job, Steve-O-!! First, I'm a Jackass fan and happily just discovered your podcast. Second, TOOL is my favorite all time band and I'd absolutely love to see you get the other 3 members on your podcast (Adam, Danny, Justin). Third, thank you for all the "poems" Maynard - life saving stuff for me personally (I know, shut up about it, but love you dearly and I promise to ignore you if our paths ever cross in person). Fourth, loved the "Vinnie" story! What a great overall conversation - too many nuggets to mention -- priceless.

Awesome interview. MJK is one of those guys that seems to have it all under control, has an unbelievable amount of knowledge, and is such a talent. It's always interesting to get into his brain. I really enjoy how well spoken he is, too. Thanks Steve-O for doing this interview! Cheers!

I've been listening to TOOL and APC since 2005. To see Maynard move into the wine and agricultural space was the smartest move anyone can do right now. I've been gardening for 3 years and it's the best thing I ever did with my life. It makes all the other stuff seem like busy work because of the paradigm we live in. I truly can see why he calls himself a winemaker now over a musician. Makes perfect sense.

I wish you would you would have asked him about the time a fan jumped on stage during a tool concert and he hip tossed the guy and held him down during a song. He kept singing perfectly the whole time and the rest of the band keep playing like nothing was happening. I think he wrapped the mic cord around him neck at since point too. It was pretty crazy.

I am a huge Tool fan. Actually my husband and I, that cemented our relationship lol I was just jamming to them before I found this. I love the interview. To say it's just poems, blows me away. I suppose that's him crucifying his ego because their music is, incredible is too small a word. I love meeting new tool fans and seeing how it changes their lives

One of the best MJK interviews I’ve seen. So much more of a give and take back and forth rather than just pelting him with the same redundant questions he’s been asked 1,000 times before.

Tools live shows are legendary. Best productions I've ever been to. APC always nails it and sounds great. I've seen them several times as well. Puscifer is a whole different experience. The 3 I've seen were in old, artistically built venues and far more intimate given the crowd and venue size.

Seen TOOL twice and Puscifer the other day. Both incredible shows and totally different. With puscifer, MJK is more up front and interactive. I guess he can be more free in artistic expression. As TOOL are legendary status already. I need to see perfect circle also
