We call her "The Girl with 1000 Voices" for just the reasons you suggest. She started out young, listening to and singing along with jazz greats like Billie Holiday and Etta James and Frank Sinatra. She picked up the "tricks" that made each of those artists great and incorporated them into her own toolkit. From phrase to phrase in some of her performances she switches mood and color with no apparent effort. And as you listen to more of her performances (and I really hope you do) you'll find that she also has the uncanny ability to arrange covers so that they are better than the original. Come on. Angelina’s voice and her total being is like an ocean wave or soft summer breeze that takes you in and rushes you to places you have rarely experienced. Your heart rate increases, you find it difficult to catch your breath, chills and shells engulf you. You are now addicted to Angelina Jordan the finest story telling vocalist I have ever experienced.
You have a great perspective of her ability. One thing about Angelina, she has always known she deserves to be on that stage. Angelina expresses herself with quality in several different genres, but it is in Jazz that she does not find superior competitors.

Let’s face it; Angelina Jordan can sing any song and make it sound far better than it has ever been performed. I love it when a reactor makes a statement about AJ’s range and then has to eat their words. Listen to everything AJ has recorded before you make a statement about the type of song she should sing. I have been following this genius for a couple of years and she has no boundaries, and she is not locked into any genre.

She is brilliant. I am glad she was not hurting her vocal chords at that time. Her version of Adele's 'Easy On Me' at the age of 15, is absolutely incredible. At times she reminds me of Amy Winehouse, and Adele, too. But ultimately she is herself, a very gifted young artist.

he reason they still take it fairly slowly is that she is only 16 years old - This in agreement with Republic Record, the family, and Angelina herself. She is now working on her record. Angelina has already sung in many countries, and all important people in the music industry know who she is. They only need to press the button when the time is right for the next step. No point in "burning out" a 16 year old jewel of a singer! After all, she has collected over 800 million views on her videos, and has already achieved more than a 16-year-old could have dreamed of. I think many people forget how young she really is since she is so mature for her age!

Bethany, thank you for this wonderful reaction/analysis of Angelina's performance. Beyond Angelina's artistic acumen, she has always been the most relaxed performer that I've ever seen. While the term "relaxed" does not quite capture all that I'm saying because there are times her powerful vocals can make her seem quite edgy. During an interview, the host of a Norwegian TV talk show asked Angelina if she gets nervous before performing on stage. This was Angelina’s response: “When I sing, I go to another world. The world is endless. It's like, full of happiness. I love it. It's amazing. And when I am on stage, I don't want to go [leave the stage]. [laughing]. I just want to be on stage" A snippet of Skaylan’s interview of Angelina Jordan (age 12) on Norwegian TV - November 2018 I think for such a thing to occur, I believe that there is more operating within Angelina than just the normal functioning of a child, and this has been apparent from age 7 to the present day. I think Angelina has integrated into her repertoire elements and techniques from every singer she has ever admired starting with the jazz greats like Billy Holiday whom she was exposed to as a toddler and more modern singers such as Amy Winehouse and Adele. Every song she sings includes a completely different selection from this bag of vocal elements and she seems to know exactly which ones are right for each song without adding too much. The fact that she is able to execute these skills at 7 or 16 or whatever age is incredible and makes each song a surprise.

Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong. Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down. Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan. Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions. At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities. Angelina Jordan has about 160 songs in her repertoire. In 2020 she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. Besides putting us mere mortals into a rapturous trance, Angelina is a singer's singer. She does things with her voice that few try, much less execute. Even voice teachers struggle to explain or define what she does. More than one has cried. And I don't mean loud impressive belts, which she is capable of but doesn't overdo, it is subtle, musical artistry that just captivates. She can woo you into her spell and tell you a story like no other artist, make you hear what a song is about for the first time. Bethany, thank you for the reaction. I bet you've been surprised by the flood of comments from Angelina's fans. And I'm one of them. I discovered this gem by chance really at the start of COVID 19 two years ago. And it was the title of the song that drew me in more than anything else. It was "Born to die", a Lana Del Rey original as I discovered later (It goes without saying that I never heard of Lana Del Rey before). I immediately fell in love with Angelina's voice, diction, timbre and tone. I never stopped listening to her voice every single day since. And it's been a wonderful journey.
There is a certain magic in all her live performances. Especially in large crowds or outside. She has a natural charisma that is probably related to how calm and un ruffled she is. As others have pointed out when she sings she goes to a special place. It is why she never dances around and often closes her eyes. I understand voice coaches discourage this. I promise you that for fans it is a treat because we know she is singing from her special place.

We call her "The Girl with 1000 Voices" for just the reasons you suggest. She started out young, listening to and singing along with jazz greats like Billie Holiday and Etta James and Frank Sinatra. She picked up the "tricks" that made each of those artists great and incorporated them into her own toolkit. From phrase to phrase in some of her performances she switches mood and color with no apparent effort. And as you listen to more of her performances (and I really hope you do) you'll find that she also has the uncanny ability to arrange covers so that they are better than the original. Come on. Angelina expresses herself with quality in several different genres, but it is in Jazz that she does not find superior competitors.
Consider that Angelina is recorded singing at eighteen months of age and after seeing Simon Cowell on a talent show at age three she told her Mother she wanted to sing sing on that Simon show. At thirteen still cognizant of that, she states, “I’ve waited ten years “.

Let’s face it; Angelina Jordan can sing any song and make it sound far better than it has ever been performed. I love it when a reactor makes a statement about AJ’s range and then has to eat their words. Listen to everything AJ has recorded before you make a statement about the type of song she should sing. I have been following this genius for a couple of years and she has no boundaries, and she is not locked into any genre.

There is so much to learn about Angelina, and it’s a very enjoyable discovery. To me, what has always blown my mind is how Angelina has been steeped in classical jazz music since she was about two and a half years old. I believe it is her first love and to see it in everything she does is pure magic.

She is brilliant. I am glad she was not hurting her vocal chords at that time. Her version of Adele's 'Easy On Me' at the age of 15, is absolutely incredible. At times she reminds me of Amy Winehouse, and Adele, too. But ultimately she is herself, a very gifted young artist.

- Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...barefoot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 130 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written five of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield", "Oslo", "Million Miles", and 7th Heaven" (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.

he reason they still take it fairly slowly is that she is only 16 years old - This in agreement with Republic Record, the family, and Angelina herself. She is now working on her record. Angelina has already sung in many countries, and all important people in the music industry know who she is. They only need to press the button when the time is right for the next step. No point in "burning out" a 16 year old jewel of a singer! After all, she has collected over 800 million views on her videos, and has already achieved more than a 16-year-old could have dreamed of. I think many people forget how young she really is since she is so mature for her age!

Bethany, thank you for this wonderful reaction/analysis of Angelina's performance. Beyond Angelina's artistic acumen, she has always been the most relaxed performer that I've ever seen. While the term "relaxed" does not quite capture all that I'm saying because there are times her powerful vocals can make her seem quite edgy. During an interview, the host of a Norwegian TV talk show asked Angelina if she gets nervous before performing on stage. This was Angelina’s response:
“When I sing, I go to another world. The world is endless. It's like, full of happiness. I love it. It's amazing. And when I am on stage, I don't want to go [leave the stage]. [laughing]. I just want to be on stage"

I think for such a thing to occur, I believe that there is more operating within Angelina than just the normal functioning of a child, and this has been apparent from age 7 to the present day. There is a touch of cosmic soul magic. Almost like she's done something similar before.

I think Angelina has integrated into her repertoire elements and techniques from every singer she has ever admired starting with the jazz greats like Billy Holiday whom she was exposed to as a toddler and more modern singers such as Amy Winehouse and Adele. Every song she sings includes a completely different selection from this bag of vocal elements and she seems to know exactly which ones are right for each song without adding too much. The fact that she is able to execute these skills at 7 or 16 or whatever age is incredible and makes each song a surprise.

Here is an introduction to Angelina for you and your viewers who might not be familiar with her.
Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong.
Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World.
After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down.
Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan.
Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions.
At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities.
Angelina Jordan has about 160 songs in her repertoire. In 2020 she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. She will wow and surprise you all the time. 16 years old today who is an excellent role model for today’s youth and her best is yet to come.

I spent my life believing soul singers touch your soul, and after discovering Angelina, I now know that her music hugs my soul and keeps me emotionally balanced. The jazz songs she sang from age 7 to 12 are unique and will never be duplicated, as there is the element of a very young voice mixed with a very mature beautiful tone. Why does Angelina sing barefoot?
When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and promised she would never again wear shoes while performing until all children of the world had shoes! At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.
Angelina penetrates hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. Bethany, thank you for the reaction. I bet you've been surprised by the flood of comments from Angelina's fans. And I'm one of them. I discovered this gem by chance really at the start of COVID 19 two years ago. And it was the title of the song that drew me in more than anything else. It was "Born to die", a Lana Del Rey original as I discovered later (It goes without saying that I never heard of Lana Del Rey before). I immediately fell in love with Angelina's voice, diction, timbre and tone. I never stopped listening to her voice every single day since. And it's been a wonderful journey.
There is a certain magic in all her live performances. Especially in large crowds or outside. She has a natural charisma that is probably related to how calm and un ruffled she is. As others have pointed out when she sings she goes to a special place. It is why she never dances around and often closes her eyes. I understand voice coaches discourage this. I promise you that for fans it is a treat because we know she is singing from her special place.
