Elite Avanti Smart Trainer In-Depth Review: Worth It?

- The Elite Avanti was introduced last summer as Elite’s new mid-range option for direct drive trainers. Unlike some of their competitors, Elite went all-in on specs on this one. They didn’t hold back: Adding WiFi, Zwift high-speed Race Mode, 18% simulated grade, and even slightly squishy feet for a tiny bit of lateral sway. In short, they’ve largely packed features found on high-end trainers into a mid-range price point.
But arguably more important than all of that: It’s actually available, in stock in stores around the world.
That may sound like a low bar to meet, but in reality for some of the hot new trainers this year, availability and initial support is the key limiter of actually buying one. Here, both of those are solved problems.
In any event, both myself and my wife have been riding the Elite Avanti for a number of months now - especially her. She’s used it as her main trainer during her training the past three months, including rides upwards of 3 hours in length on it. So I’ve got a pretty good idea at this point on everything from accuracy to quirks.

Thanks for the review !
A Quick question that everyone has ! How do you compare with direto xr ? Without price différence , the avanti is better ?
Oh that little hidden storage tray is 👌
I bought the Avanti during a Black Friday sale for 599e. I was originally thinking of buying the Victory, but the deal seemed good and I could get the trainer immediately, unlike the Victory. I’ve been really happy with it so far. It has worked flawlessly, the adapter tray is great and it folds into a pretty small footprint when not used.
Avanti just showed up today ať my door and you release this, hoping its good
I’m waiting for the Elite Square Bike Trainer review.
Love the budget podium for the laptop instead of the incredibly expensive Wahoo table.
I stilll think my fivers worth 9mm ply is likely better vfm
Just got mine imported from Italy last week and the difference between this and my JetBlack Victory is night and day. I would honestly spend the money again for the Avanti after having so many warranty issues with the Victory.
what problems do you have with the victory? Mine, and my buddys...and all people on a german road biking forum are very satisfied.
@@michaels.8388 Yeah me also no problems so far with the jetblack victory trainer. the app though! different matter. have asked jetblack if they can resolve issue of app not working properly on a Samsung phone - nothing........
What warranty issues?
Had mine for two months. Had issues with low watts (less than 80) with iffy cadence when spinning but this may be more down to my pedalling style and how trainers handle this area in general. Love the feel of it and the way it eases into 30 sec sprints in erg mode. Bought it instead of the Victory for exactly the reasons stated and am very happy with it.
I've considered this trainer a couple of months back when I got money back after a warranty claim on the Direto XR, however, the lack of any reviews back then put me off (even though I was quite sure it was gonna be okay thanks to Elite's reputation and other products). In the end, I decided to spend a bit more and go for the Wahoo Kickr v6 and after your comments about the flywheel feel compared to the Direto XR, I'm glad I did. I guess once the Elite Justo 2 receives Zwift virtual shifting support, that'll be the only high-end trainer with literally all features you can ask for at the moment (the Wahoo still lacks sensor bridging…) and therefore the go-to option, but for now I'm really happy with my choice.
Ive misplaced the thruaxle adapter for my tacx trainer, so that tray seems like genius right now 😂
Nice that the Elite Avanti doesn't need cadence sensor bridging, since sadly, the JetBlack Victory *does* need it, but doesn't have it.
Why does it need it? Does accurate cadence just fine.
@@Dcrainmaker I have no reason to believe the unit you've tested fails to deliver accurate cadence accurately. My unit does not. JetBlack is aware that there are users that are unable to use their units for cadence. In fact to quote from email from JetBlack; "Our engineers are working on the cadence issue. Seems a few users have this but not all. We will release something once we find the issue. Thanks for your patience on this" Until they sort it, I'm using a Wahoo cadence sensor.
@ I'm glad your unit is fine, Ray. Mine isn't. JetBlack is aware of the problem. This is from their email to me: "Our engineers are working on the cadence issue. Seems a few users have this but not all. We will release something once we find the issue.
Thanks for your patience on this".
Unless I’m mistaken, Wahoo also doesn’t have HRM bridging (or cadence, but it provides this anyway so it doesn’t matter) on their much more expensive Kickr Move. I own one and unless I’m missing something like an update or some setting, it’s embarrassing how much more the Move costs when much less expensive trainers are more fully featured.
Correct, sadly
How does it compare against the Direto?
Had mine for 3 months now, it's been great. Only thing I find is the easy start when in ERG mode seems inconsistent. Sometimes the start is easy, other times not quite so. And I have to adjust my derailleur, the thru axle is about a quarter turn tighter than in my wheel set, and somehow that throws the adjustment off? But otherwise great trainer!
Still waiting for JetBlack Victory (ordered in december).
To the update process, for me thee Upgrado app only said that yeah your firmware is not up to date, but the unit uses wifi to update so let it do it's thing I have nothing to do here
Victory all the way
Does this have fold away legs? Assuming it does? What are competitors in this regard...i need to be able to store it away daily and use a Suito at the moment.
Yup! I show them folding out very quickly in unboxing, but yeah, forgot to mention it otherwise.
Any news on the direto x firmware update for zwift cog? There is firmware 88 but been reading people that have done it have had issues?
There's a few known issues with the DirtoXR with virtual shifting. It's biased towards the higher virtual gears (16-24). It also has a very high resistance floor, requiring a minimum of around 130-140W at 90RPM using 42T/14 gearing. This makes recovery intervals and 'easy' riding difficult - especially if 130-140W is your Zone 3! This is a hardware limitation with the design of existing Elite resistance units.
Honest question: if I stop this with ten seconds left, does that screw with the algorithm?
Honestly, if you watched the whole thing and left in the last 10 seconds, the TH-cam gods would be pretty darn happy. The specific metric YT cares about is so-called 'watch time' (there's also click-through-rate, the % of people that click on any given video they see). In short, it's a combination of watch time + click through rate. But, since you already clicked, the next challenge any YT'er has, is keeping you watching as much % of the video as possible. If YT sees people only watch a few seconds and bail, then it knows the video might not be good.
Release date for Elite Square Bike ?
Being shipped in Europe now. April oversea
Waiting for the new frame.
Stroopwaf(f)el is spelled wrong ray 😊. Waffel means something else…
Avanti will be a zwift racing favorite. Seems to overread.
Amazing video,
how do you like riding 1x chainring on TT bike in hilly Mallorca ?
Holy crap! Elite has a ton of smart trainers in its lineup. I was about to ask if the Avanti was going to displace the Suito (what I use) or anything else in the lineup, but looking at all their interactive trainers, it looks like nothing gets displaced. They must use wafer-thin wedges to squeeze new smart trainers into their lineup.
Just checked it, there's the Tuo as the entry-level wheel-on trainer, level up is the Suito, then strangely the original Direto, Direto XR without cassette and with the Zwift cog, Avanti and the Justo 2. I don't get why anyone should get the original Direto in 2025 and can't believe they still produce it! Avanti is definitely a level up from the Suito, as is the Direto XR. Since the Avanti and the Direto XR are pretty much the same price, the decision there is whether you want a slightly quiter trainer with more modern design, WiFi direct connect and race mode, or you trade those for a heavier flywheel and thus better ride feel. If you want both, there's the Justo 2. I guess Elite doesn't want to get rid of the Direto branding given how popular in has become, but dropping both the original Direto (that should be a no-brainer) and the Direto XR would simplify the range and unify the design language.
I had some dumb Elite trainers in the past. I had some problems, and Elite refused to resolve the issue. I haven’t bought anything from the brand in over 20 years and have no interest in anything from Elite. Not even for free
No offense, but 20 years is kinda a really long time…
@ if 20 years seems like a long time, just imagine that in 20 years from now it will be 40 years!! since i last spent a cent on the Elite brand. Never again. Awful customer support.
@@Dcrainmakerlol. Did bikes even exist 20 years ago?
@@trbeyond I hear only unicycles.
