    Wow! I found another Demi-Hulk fan! I thought I was the only Demi-Hulk fan. For decades I've always thought that the DEMI-HULK could have been kept as a SPIN-OFF Marvel character. Bodybuilder, Ric Drasin pulled off the Demi-Hulk masterly. The studios succeeded in giving Drasin a Bill Bixby 'look' to his face. Masterful. Drasin is only 6'0" tall but the camera crew was able to portray the Demi-Hulk as something more like 6'3", reasonable since the comic book Hulk is supposed to be 7'0".
    Having the Demi-Hulk as a spin-off character had some advantages. The Demi-Hulk retained much, if not all, of his human intelligence and reasoning. He could speak and think, although these capabilities seem to be somewhat limited. But the advantage was that the Demi-Hulk retained his humanity and was aware of it. The Hulk was animalistic whose intelligence was little better than a smart orangutan although Hulk seemed to retain some semblance of human emotion and feeling.
    There would have to be a new storyline invented to promote the Demi-Hulk. Perhaps David Banner managed a partial cure for his transformation. Or else an entirely new scientist character would have to be invented, say, a man who was trying to follow rogue scientist David Banner's research.
    The Demi-Hulk would continue on his own new path of adventures, maybe combating evil and helping the weak and defenseless. This would be possible as the Demi-Hulk has his David Banner memories, can talk and reason up to a point but not as far as Doctor Banner.
    The Demi-Hulk would probably still burst out of his human-size clothing as Doctor Banner was around 5'11" at best compared to the 6'3" or 6'4" Demi-Hulk. But since Demi-Hulk can still reason and think, he might carry around a handy stash of big man's clothing that he can quickly slip into, for example, a set of black, comfortable gym sweats that look stylish but can be slipped on fast. Demi-Hulk wears underwear that is very flexible and will stretch when he grows.
    I do not know if the Demi-Hulk character is copyrighted. Otherwise any author or artist could create their version of the Demi-Hulk. I am not a copyright lawyer so I don't know these things.

    And the explanation as to why this meteor seemed like it was being piloted: nonexistent.
    They needed to make it plausible that the Hulk would be mistaken for an alien, so they had a couple non-committal throw-away lines. [paraphrasing] "That thing almost kinda seems like something might be piloting it, but maybe not." I guess we're just meant to assume the "maybe not" part for ourselves and write it off as some cosmic fluke. I dunno. _They_ forgot about it by the middle of the 2nd episode, so we should too, I guess.

    • @MrMedictom
      @MrMedictom ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always thought that the meteor was actually drawn to Earth, rather than piloted, like metal drawn to a magnet. The presence of gamma radiation in the prehistoric Hulk from an earlier season (or Del Frye's Hulk from 1951) could have started attracting the meteor from deep space. Because there is no gravity in space, the meteor would have continued heading generally toward Earth even in the absence of a gamma irradiated creature. The prolonged existence of Banner's Hulk (roughly three years at the time of this episode) would have brought the meteor back on a direct course for Earth. The Earth's rotation and other natural factors caused it to crash near Banner instead of right on top of him. At least that's the theory I came up with in high school in the late '80s when I caught this episode on a rerun.

    This was one of my favorite episodes (2 parts, but 1 story so calking it one episode) when it came out. Not so much for what was there as for the potential and what I was waiting for. It gave us hope aliens would be encountered (especially we hoped Marvel aliens; my buddy was positive the 7-Million Dollar Man actor was a Kree or Skrull, lol). It was exciting to see Hulk and Banner face the government itself, making us think it would become more of a General Ross manhunt situation from then on, with all the hi-tech and action that involved. Some even hoped the radiation and altered change would lead to a speaking Hulk like in the comics. And I was the one lone soul who somehow thought maybe it would lead to a Doc Samson (forget how I saw that working out, but was sold on it being the in-between stage or at least that actor). So, as exciting as it was, rewatching it is just a reminder of how pale it is compared to our own dreamed up version.

    I remember reading about this in history class. Apparently, there was a celebration honoring Andrew Jackson's defense of New Orleans, the Canadians burning Washington and the British going home again, in Utah, when the Hulk made his way to the meteor impact site a few minites before the meteor impacted or something..

    • @jeffyoung60
      @jeffyoung60 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it was an amphibious British expedition of Royal Army infantry and Royal Marines, about 9,000 total, who marched upon Washington D.C. The nation's capital was under the command of an incompetent Secretary of Defense. The American militia, comprising the majority of the defenders, broke and ran in panic upon being fired upon by the disciplined, well-trained, determined Brits.
      The American rout became known sardonically, as the, "Bladensburg Races". That disparaging title came from the Americans, not the Brits.
      In retaliation for the Americans burning the capital, York, of Ontario, then known as, Upper Canada, the redcoats burned down the first White House, but first dining upon the sumptuous roast chicken dinner set out for President Madison and his intrepid wife, Dolly.
      Other buildings in the city caught fire. But things didn't go well for the British. According to history, some kind of freak windstorm descended upon the city, as if it was retribution from Above. It caused casualties among the British raiders. The British never intended to occupy Washington D.C. permanently. But the devastating freakish windstorm hurried the British evacuation to their boats.
      The War of 1812, aka, The American War, as known in Canada and Britain, would continue on until 24 December 1814, when both sides signed an armistice in Ghent, Belgium on the basis of quo antebellum, thus ending the conflict, which both sides felt had stalemated and neither wished to continue.

    Another argument for allowing the Hulk (Ferrigno) to gradually begin speaking in future episodes. He didn't have to speak in the "Me Hulk" manner, like the comics. The Demi-Hulk was a physical enhanced but mentally impaired version of Banner. At the height of anger, the Hulk could have growled, snarled, etc ... as he calmed down, he could have spoken like the Demi-Hulk ... confused, and searching for the correct words.

    Fun fact: The explosion scene at the end of Prometheus #2 is taken from the film Operation Crossbow starring the great Sophia Loren and George Peppard, who later played Hannibal Smith on The A-Team on NBC.

    Very good vid. thank you.
    You didn't mention Carol Baxter as Dr. Charlena McGowan. She also played an entirely different character in S2 E13 Haunted. She was said to play Renee Stevens in the end credits (in 1978) and even when Googled today. In fact she played Renee's sister Becky. The episode highlighted mental illness. She played the part brilliantly. She even wrote one of the Hulk episodes S4 E10 Wax Museum which also dealt with mental illness; and guest starred Christine Bedford, Ben Hammer and Max Showalter.

    Remember this special one it took a lot from a story from the comic counter part there is something about this 2 parter that could have gone further and granted the Hulk a very different personality a smart Hulk or perhaps a deadlier version or more there's was a general in this that could have been Thunderbolt Ross and maybe a couple of friends from the pages of the comic book it was fantastic and had a different view on those Hulks that came later in the years that followed but this series did help swan the MCU and the end of this classic cult series to me didn't end it was just one of many different versions of the Hulk series in comics and television the show had emotion and was so much more it was the fact that they had a incredible actor who knew what they wanted to say his talent sold the franchise for years but was he the first choice as David Banner? BILL THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK.

    This video makes me wish that all of the Marvel characters that came to life on 1970s t.v., Spider-Man (Nicholas Hammond & Shinji Todo), Captain America (Red Brown), Doctor Strange (Peter Hooten), with all their respective supporting casts, would've become regulars on THE INCREDIBLE HULK (1977-1982) after Bill Bixby left in 1981. Ferrigno could've stayed on & Jack Colvin could've become more central. They could've filled-out maybe an extra season with the other Marvel characters on the hunt. But I guess different production companies.

      I kind of think they weren't as big on superhero teamups back then as they are now. It seems like a logical thing to do for ratings though. It sure worked for the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman until they separated onto other networks. I would have loved to see a Marvel Team-up back then.

    • @kjk7611

      @@tvcrazyman WOW! I didn't know THE BIONIC WOMAN had ever moved to a network other than T6MDM. The idea I had was that TIH could've possibly got in another, GOOD, season. Even without Bixby. And we saw way too little of Cap't America & Dr. Strange.

      @@tvcrazyman Me, too. This Cap was basically Wonder Woman, Linda Carter, with a shield & motorcycle (instead of an invisible jet). And, of course, The Super Soldier Syrum, instead of an Amazonian prowess. Maybe Wonder Woman, 1975-1979, burned-out the concept?
