Mystical Black House Tour in Chiang Rai Thailand

- Today, I head off to the famous Black House, known locally as Baan Dam, nestled in the city of Chiang Rai, Thailand. My adventure begins at the old airport in Chiang Rai, a perfect starting point to soak in the vibrant local atmosphere. As I strolled around, I couldn't help but think about when i use to walk the same path 7 years a go.
A 25 minute journey from the old airport took me to the tourist attraction of Baan Dam Museum (Black House). The entrance fee was 80 Baht, which was a fair price i would say. The Black House is the brainchild of renowned Thai artist Thawan Duchanee, whose vision was to create a space where art, architecture, and nature blend seamlessly.
The Mystical Atmosphere:
The moment I stepped foot into Baan Dam, a sense of Gothic came over me. The combination of dark hues, intricately carved wooden structures, and the use of unconventional materials like animal bones and skins created an eerie yet relaxed environment. I felt as though I had entered a movie set.
As I wandered through the different buildings, I discovered a treasure trove of art pieces, sculptures, and installations. The interiors were adorned with rare artifacts, antique furniture, and thought-provoking paintings, all reflecting Thawan Duchanee's unique artistic style.
Visiting Baan Dam, the Black House in Chiang Rai, was a cool experience that i really enjoyed. I wouldn’t say it’s one of the best places i’ve been but it’s well worth the visit.

When I come to CM in November I'm torn between going to the Mae Hong Son Loop or head to Chiang Rai...can't go wrong either way I guess.. I went to the Golden Triangle 7 years ago and really enjoyed it.

Must admit I wasn't expecting much at the black house but this was excellent mate. Don't underestimate it. Most enjoyable. So much there to see and well worth the 80 baht entrance fee. The bell ends the highlight 😂🤣😂. The girls took a few photos to send home lol. The link to the other vloggers you met isn't working mate, needs to be reviewed. Thanks for taking us there. I think I might like the place, will check it out the next ride up to CR. Can you do a visa run to the border at Mae Sai yet ? Last time we were in Thailand, Feb 2023, we had to ride up to Laos, as Burma was still closed. Thanks.
Thanks ! Mae Sai border is still a bit hit and miss I've heard. First they was allowing people over and then they wasn't. I would probably choose a different border crossing at this time.
Very cool place. Could film a good horror movie there if someone decided to wear one of those crocodile skins and chase people. Ha. Love how quick a Thailand day can go from pouring down to sunny!
Perfect place for a movie. I've never seen so many croc skins in one place. Yep, the weather can change in a blink here at the minute.

I actually really enjoy vlogs like this .. Hey Rudd, longtime no see, I'm all good man. It really depends how much you want to see, but I would say a bare minimum of 5 days would be needed.
I'm feeling quite insecure after seeing the two statues of the guys waving their giant wankers. First time I've seen a cat in a cage in my life. Hopefully he gets let out at night at least. My GF has relatives in Chiang Rai so I think when I return to CM next month we will be heading there for a weekend. You've given me some good advance knowledge.
