- My first time in Chiang Mai up in Northern Thailand was amazing, but how it happened was surprising. I love Northern Thai Food so I just had to say yes this mystery offer.
I've never been to Chiang Rai and this trip was sudden and unexpected. It was quite the adventure as with one day's notice, we flew from Bangkok to Northern Thailand. We enjoyed Thai Food, Thai hospitality, and met new Thai friends. It just goes to show that saying 'yes' is something we should all do more often.

Three years ago, we sold our home in Bangkok and moved to Chiang Rai. We wanted to enjoy the cooler climate and mountains. Our new house is finished and we are enjoying the country lifestyle. Glad you could visit!
Similarly we move from Bangkok to Chiang Rai 16 years ago and still love it. It is a great place to live.

What an amazing experience, Ive been in Chiang Rai but this is a hidden gem. You had me here in the U.S. in tears showing how appreciative and happy the Thai people are with so little when here in the west is taken for granted. My goodness. My Goodness. My Goodness. That was EPIC at all levels Chris, starting with the wonderfully big heart of Khun Sompan to get things going. ❤ The culture, the food, the scenery, love it....yet maybe it's the magic of the Thai people that I feel in love with all those years ago. Great vid (Adam) 🙏
I did 3 weeks in Thailand back in 2019. I checked out Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Ayutthaya, Phuket (old town, Nai Yang, and Patong), Ao Nang, and Phi Phi. My Chiang Rai adventures were among my favorite moments of the entire trip. "Thai time" is way more prevalent there, food was out of this world there, and some of the craziest "tour" sites I've ever seen in the area. Chiang Rai is the home of the famous White Temple, Blue Temple, The Black House exhibit, possibly the most magnificent statue in Thailand at Wat Huay Pla Kang, and a mini version of Chiang Mai's style night market. Out of all those places I visited, I feel that it's the best place to see a lot of stuff, but also easily able to step out of the tourist world into the real Thai culture. Chris, you should do another video up there with some of the soccer team members that were in the cave. (just an idea that would get millions of views)
Just back from a week in Chiang Rai, saw many of the same things! Visiting my wife's old school art teacher and her artist partner, so the Black House and White Temple were high on the list of places we visited. Weather in June is supposedly usually rainy, but for us it was good - not too hot, mostly cloudy but only a little rain.
Did a motorbike trip in northern Thailand last Jan with a few of my Irish buddies. it was FAB! Great biking roads. Already booked again for next Nov. Lovely part of the world 👍👍

Difficult to believe that you had never been to Chiang Rai before. Such a wonderful experience when I went there a few years ago. The drive on a bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai was spectacular. Thank you for another great video Chris. Keep up the great work.
On Doi Mae Salong, there is a community of Yunnan Chinese 93rd Brigade of the Kuomintang Army. It has delicious Yunnan food. and views of the pagoda and cherry trees, mountains and tea plantations, as well as cool weather throughout the year
We did a trip to Thailand in 2019 and stayed a month. It was a whirlwind trip as it was my first time in Thailand in over 30 years of being married to a Thai woman. Phuket, Bangkok, and many temples were some of the places we visited in addition to staying in the village in central Thailand where my wife's Mom lives. So many more things left to see, we've just barely begun. The only downer was it was burning season. But just something to adapt to. Really enjoyed it and will be back this winter for a 3 month stay and am considering retiring full time there health permitting. Hopefully the wife will be retired by then as well.

There's an amazing burger place in Chiang Rai, right downtown somewhere. I don't recall the name but they cooked inside a VW van. Best burger I've ever had!

We have been following you for a couple of months in preparation to moving to Thailand in approximately 1 year.
Your mystery 24 hours was epic.❤️ My Steve has lived in Chang Mi for 6 months some 13 years ago. I have visited Phuket as a tourist with him 3 times and spent 2 weeks in Chang Mi.
We are Retired Australians coming from definite 4 seasons a year and our summer is 40 degrees C and very dry so it will be my brig best challenge. A small pool and air conditioned home will help me adjust.
We are absorbing so much information from your videos and thank you.

Good point Chris! I`ve been to Chiang Rai 2019, but you showed some new places to visit, at the time I visited we had a short visit to Myanmar too which was nice after my last real trip to this country at 2015. We just had our 3 or 4 hours there and had some Myanmar beers and then back. At the time we really didn`t find in Chiang Rai any good restaurants to revisit. Nice to see that now they have.

We were there about 18 years ago and we flee to Chiang Rai from Chiang Rai I recall. We did not see single Farang then and we stayed for 5 days! Apparently, though, some Farang professors lived there and would dine at the local pizza once a month. Greetings from Frank & Rung.

It was very good for your first time in Chiang Rai. Actually, I like this province more than Chiang Mai as Chiang Rai is more peaceful and less tourists. You should go again - so many places to visit such as the cave (that the young boys were stuck), the Golden Triangle, the Opium Museum.

Great video, Chiang Rai is a beautiful part of Thailand. Was at that skywalk last year, wasn’t open then but got to go up there a few weeks ago 🙂 Some amazing views.
I’ve been. Kind of a generic Thai city but white temple is nice and it’s a gateway to the golden triangle area which is lovely.
