If you plan on doing Auto-Expand, Id suggesting looking in the workshop for a rework mod. There was a really good one. Otherwise, the game can actually bankrupt you.
That's why u shouldn't set up auto-expanding in every building, especially the railway;p

Ludi, how do you increase your SoL so much? In my current Russia run I got pop needs to cost -5% since 1870s with very low taxes since 1840s and I still barely crawled into 15 SoL. Reached 1885 rn.
If your basic goods prices are low, focus on lowering luxury good costs and then, most importantly, improving GDP. Higher paying jobs means Pops can afford more goods, increasing their SoL.
Higher tech levels (like motor industries vs tools workshops) will provide higher tier jobs, which pay more. Engineers > Machinists > Laborers
Standard of Living is a combination of low goods cost and lots of jobs. At first the standard of living number won't move much because it's an average across all pops, so all those *peasants* are dragging it down even though your pops working factory jobs may actually be doing as well as Ludi's, or close to it. Vicky 3 is a game of balancing your government income against your construction costs because your construction output is literally your GDP growth rate.
