I got to meet the band when this song and Imaginary Lover were in the charts. My small High School of 200+ won a live concert at our school. When I reminisce of my school days, this is cherished most. They Rocked our small Arkansas School out! Afterwards we got to hang out with the band.. They (especially Ronnie) were so cool, but especially humble. Talking to Ronnie he made me feel like I was important to him when in actuality we must have looked like just small town hick kids. But they gave us a Class "A" concert. A memory I'll always cherish..RIP Ronnie and the rest in the band who have passed. Such a great band!
I knew Ronnie Hammond and his wife used to shop and the Kroger I worked at for 10yrs. Ex husband Was A Drummer. They spoke in Passing. Nice Guy RIP Ronnie Hammond 😘💙💜💚🦋🐝 ARS⚡ Seems like I have seen them live to many times to count. 😜🎼
That's a Wonderful story Mr.Wilson. I reviewed your page and it's nice. The quote on the last page is touching. But not all of us find True Love I have found in my years. But I love myself and that will be enough. Don't think I could stand another heartbreak. 💔 Ronnie Hammond was as nice as you describe. 😜🎼ARS⚡
Without Ronnie Hammond Barry Bailey JR Cobb Paul Goddard Robert Nix and Dean Daughtry there is no Atlanta rhythm section bottom line rest in peace all you great musicians who gave us your music you are missed and so underrated it’s a shame
I lived in Atlanta in high school back in the late 70's and early 80's. One of my close friends' mom dated Ronnie Hammond and I met him at Champagne Jam '78 and a couple of other times at my friends' house. Ronnie was a funny, humble, gentle soul with the consummate pop/rock voice. Without Ronnie on those early albums there would never have been an ARS. Period. Rest In Peace Ronnie.
This is Col from Australia I'm 52 I first heard this when I was 17 I've always loved them, and many others from SRV to metal to Santana, Pink Floyd, Eagles and all the new stuff, you Americans and English should be proud for what you have given the world with your music, Thankyou.
COLIN WEIR thx,Colin I was a child of the late 70's and 80's and I was at good parties with lots of AC/DC blasting, they were/are huge here(I prefer the Bon era but both are good)I remember some good lighter bands like Men at Work,The Church,Hoodoo Gurus,etc..."Friday on my mind" is great song,..I'm guessing there were plenty of good lesser known Aussie bands that never got big here in the states. My Grand Uncle moved there(he's a geologist)and loves it there, too bad we're so far apart,I would love to go there myself
bootlegapples Thanks mate, Australians and New Zealanders are great people to have around and when you get in a bad spot they will help you out, but a lot of Americans and Brits are the same the music brings us together, we are all brothers, if you can find a way to come over for a holiday come, take care mate.
Brings Back Memories Of My Ole Days Hanging Out With My Girl And We Were So Into Each Other Thanks To This Song. 67 And Still Rockin In The Free World. PEACE.
I was only 10 when I first listened to these guys. Even so, I recognized their talent and to this day, no band sounds like them...the rhythm is incredible (something most rock bands do not have.) Years later, I was able to visit Doraville, GA (via military service) where they came from and take in the sights, the scenes, and the Southern culture to understand how they got that flavor of music. Brilliant guys.
Very true, and what’s weird is that, not all of those mini humbuckers sounded great. Some didn’t sound good at all. But, Barry’s goldtop and those mini humbuckers were simply magical.
Jeff U - J.R. Cobb played a mean Fender Stratocaster, and many Les Paul's, and Gibson ES 335 model guitars, and was also an awesome guitarist / songwriter, way back to the early days of The Classics IV (his original band). J.R. Cobb wrote "Spooky" in 1968, "Stormy" in 1969, along with "Traces". He was the lead guitarist for the Classics IV, too! RIP J.R. Cobb.
I saw them perform only once back around the late nineties in a bar in Columbia, SC. Awesome, awesome show. Ronnie Hammond's voice was on the money! Thank you guys for an incredible experience!
I love the way the solo flows from the original melody. It’s not a random assortment of runs up and down a blues scale. You can still hear hints of the song throughout. Classical musicians would call it theme and variations. Impressive stuff.
Rodney Did a good job in his comeback with the band. When I saw them in Tennessee, he was spot on. So glad Dean had him back at the near end of HIS career.. What a class thing to do.
Saw them back up the Stones in Buffalo in late 70's with Journey.... They kicked ass.... They had the vibe...it's so difficult to recreate the vibe.... I'm never going to give up trying..... Rock on ARS
What A lot of great reviews!!! In was never lucky enough to even go to one of their concerts, but I just loved their music and great sound. I'm so grateful to all of you fans and all the interesting stories and reviews you have shared here!!! Thanks so much❤❤❤
The Dell, Arkansas high school gig that Robert Wilson recalled below was part of the redoubtable Carefree Sugarless Gum tour IN 1978. The show is chronicled in detail by the band's then-lighting director Jeff Jackson in THE ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION: THE AUTHORIZED HISTORY.
All the deceased members are greatly missed. This newer lineup has talented guys but boy did I love Barry Bailey's sound! His guitar tone via his Les Paul and the style in which he played, was second to none. Also, I know this is "technically" the original lead singer but Ronnie's voice WAS the ARS vocal sound.
he's doing things on the strat that are just amazing, barry bailey used a Gibson les paul, which is known for quality of a jazz and mood guitar, this kid is amazing, and the bass player is off the chain good, unreal sound
I agree with bisp25 , Barry smoked the lead on this song on "Are You Ready". Damn I'd like to have a copy of that again. Wore the tape out in my younger days. All time favorite of ARS. RIP Ronnie!
I fell in love with this song playing. Her name was Teresa Flinchum in Greensboro, NC in 1976 or 7. I still love her and this song. Never saw her again after we moved to Orlando in '78. I am still so into you Teresa!
My dad bout me a belt buckle for my 10 birthday that had ARS on it, I never new who they were. I played classic rock guitar for years before I heard the solo in this song. But since I learned to appreciate guitar players for there own sound and playing techniques this version only helps remind me how good Baily's version was. And as for this guy he must appreciate and respect Baily enough to have done this tune with a Strat rather then a Les Paul. You can try to play like a Randy or a Jimi but really guitar players know how much of a mistake it would be to stand in for someone and play like them note for note.
I saw the ARS open for ZZ Top on the Top's Texas Road Show tour in support of Fandango (1974? 75?). Boy, was that a far cry from this. They rocked their rear end's off back in the day.
Met my 1st love when he walked into a bar I was on at 15 back in 1977 and this song was playing on the jukebox. He had long blond hair, big brown eyes and a mustang car. I think of him every time I hear this song and wonder if we would have had a future had he not been murdered in cold blood when I was 18 and he was 25. Rest in peace Norman Perrault
I saw ARS in Franklin Tennessee a couple of years ago, before Dean retired. Both guitar players were so completely unbelievable. God, they were good. Justo was hittin all the notes at great pitch, Dean always there doing his foundation stuff. What a great band I will miss them forever.
I didn't hear this song until years after it had been released. I was mesmerized by it.. Think nothing of playing it 50 times in a roll.. Do something else, come back, and play it again.
Seen ARS in person, stagefront, later backstage, at the SEAFOOD FESTIVAL, Atlantic Beach N.C. in SEPT/OCT 1989, when they played an outdoor free show/just one band of six that played that day. There was also NANTUCKET, ELVIN BISHOP, 10cc, and a BEATLES and a CAPT & TENNILE TRIBUTE BAND. There were two stages. Its a weekend thing and ut happens every year after the Blue Marlin Tourney in Beaufort NC.

Barry had a Fred Astaire quality...he is just so stinking smooth. He is woefully under appreciated. I would love to sit and BS with him over lunch or something.
Getrealpeeps Around 1970 at the Fillmore in San Francisco they played a one hour set. Before them 4 mediocre local bands played their sets and almost everybody left. What was left filled the front row only. They played their hearts out and blew our socks off. I Will never forget. The tightest most professional rock band I ever saw/heard.
+Rolf Dusseldorf Great story! Unfortunately, kids nowadays don't have that same privilege. I saw VH open for Sabbath at MSG in '78. What a monster performance by VH. I was blown away.
I worked for a sound company that serviced ARS from about 1986 to 1995. We got the account after a riot happened in Erie, PA and the sound console was burned. Their sound company called them an "irresponsible client" because the band wouldn't buy them a replacement mixing console and the band called the sound company irresponsible for not having their equipment insured. Most people do not know Jim Markham, the bands monitor mixer was the third part of their harmony. Last time I ran across these guys, one of RA Roth's lighting techs was playing drums, Danny Bigay. Paul Goddard and Wizzard Bass wrote the bass players bible for Atlanta. Andy West was in the mix, too.

Wish I could have been there, from North Carolina. Blue Ridge Mountains. 🌹❤️
That's a Wonderful story Mr.Wilson.

Ronnie Hammond was as nice as you describe. 😜🎼ARS⚡
My brother was good friends with Ronnie. Such a nice, decent man.
Nice mems, man! Thx for sharing.
Great song and guitar solo, I quite enjoy listening to the Atlantic rhythm section music, since the ‘70s.
77 years old and continue to love the Atlanta Rythm section
63 and lovin every minute of it. So ahead of their time!!!
65 years and always loved them saw them early 80s in Wilmington nc. They janmed
@@StraubelCheni "lovin every minute of it" That was Loverboy. Great song.
62 and still lvoing em. Saw them live in B'ham fair grounds. Great outdoor sound. I sure thought he played Les Paul on this lead.
67 here and love this ❤❤
I agree. They were very underrated. Paul Goddard was an amazing bassist. His solo in Champaign Jam is so smooth and soft.
Without Ronnie Hammond Barry Bailey JR Cobb Paul Goddard Robert Nix and Dean Daughtry there is no Atlanta rhythm section bottom line rest in peace all you great musicians who gave us your music you are missed and so underrated it’s a shame
true
Sadly, all are dead now.
undeniable.
KevRow University Live has the truth.
Only the first singer, Rodney Justo, is still alive; he originally left the group after the first album and was replaced by Ronnie Hammond.
Goddard was the most impressive bassist I had the pleasure of watching perform. That man could make that bass sing!

Greg Randolph What a great story, thank-you for posting for me who can only imagine...✌🏼️
@Brett Dawson and that relates to OP how exactly?
U said it right brother, one of the most underrated bands of all time, they r great musicians. That bass player was one of the best in my opinion 👏
@Brett Dawson I am an American also and I' think about this from time to time. The list of great British bands is immense. Got to say it like it is.
A lot of us dated Ronnie. He was an incredibly talented man, & I know I will never forget him.
One of the most underrated bands of their time. I've listened to it for40 years. Just gets better and better
ARS was such an original and one of a kind band. Sheer talent 👏
agreed
Good band 👍
St.louis love it
Am so into them..never go to a dance without requesting this beauty..never think,of any member as no longer performing..just on a break..🇨🇦
I have ALWAYS loved this song, since it came out in the 70's. It's so sexy.
This is Col from Australia I'm 52 I first heard this when I was 17 I've always loved them, and many others from SRV to metal to Santana, Pink Floyd, Eagles and all the new stuff, you Americans and English should be proud for what you have given the world with your music, Thankyou.
actually this is American music.
the British and everyone else simply copied the Americans.
you're welcome:)

+COLIN WEIR What a nice compliment Colin. Thank you. I too am in awe. Both countries have produced some fantastic musicians!
Everette Deese Thanks mate take care.
Such a tight playing group of epic musicians!!!!!! Unforgettable, Irreplaceable!!!!!!
Brings Back Memories Of My Ole Days Hanging Out With My Girl And We Were So Into Each Other Thanks To This Song. 67 And Still Rockin In The Free World. PEACE.

RIP: Paul Goddard. Amazing bass player up till the end!
prsgeetarman didnt that young guitar player on the right die too?
These musicians were the cream of the crop. That rhythm section, so freakin tight.
Yep can hear him ripping it up over everyone else!
I'd say the opposite, not very fluid and harsh Ricky sound, but there you go
Did you hear Barry Bailey passed Last Saturday nigh?
Fabulous! "So Into You"!! Love the guitar solo!
RIP Barry Bailey & “Frog” two fantastic musicians!
Barry Bailey died ?
How old was Barry Bailey????????
One of my favorite bands of all time. The musicians in the band are really top notch.
The rhythm section was Dennis Yost & the Classic 4 back in early 70's.
Loved their music!!!!
Great solo, pure feeling!!!
WOW - That guy can play a terrific guitar. What a solo. Would love to hear more from him,.
Barry's goldtop had that full and soo smooth sound, with some pretty great playing, as well. Just love this band.
Very true, and what’s weird is that, not all of those mini humbuckers sounded great. Some didn’t sound good at all. But, Barry’s goldtop and those mini humbuckers were simply magical.

Stephen McBee lucky you!
That guitar solo has always been one of my favs, but I gotta say that dude kicked it up several notches 🤟
One of thouse YOU CALL..... GREATEST...!!!
That solo what sweetness, you sir are an unsung hero and I am delighted to hear your song thank you
I love the way the solo flows from the original melody. It’s not a random assortment of runs up and down a blues scale. You can still hear hints of the song throughout. Classical musicians would call it theme and variations. Impressive stuff.
anybody like Atlanta rythem section,sweet!
Not this one
Been loving their music since the Classics four...
So many hits. You want to play them all at once. Southern Rock baby! Yea!!!
So very true! Ronnie's voice drove the soul of A.R.S!
Rodney Did a good job in his comeback with the band. When I saw them in Tennessee, he was spot on. So glad Dean had him back at the near end of HIS career.. What a class thing to do.
Sadly, Ronnie Hammond was the first of the classic lineup to have died, in 2011 at just 60 years old.
I saw them just last night, and the show was every bit of awesome...!
Excellent song AND GUITAR SOLO! ❤️👍🏽👏🎸🎤
Saw them back up the Stones in Buffalo in late 70's with Journey.... They kicked ass.... They had the vibe...it's so difficult to recreate the vibe.... I'm never going to give up trying..... Rock on ARS
The Solo of his Life. Sooo great and....
What A lot of great reviews!!! In was never lucky enough to even go to one of their concerts, but I just loved their music and great sound. I'm so grateful to all of you fans and all the interesting stories and reviews you have shared here!!! Thanks so much❤❤❤
Looking good and sounding Great sorry for the loss of a great musician and listen to that bass thumping.

Although they are all gone from the classic lineup now Steve Stone and company are carrying the torch and doing an awesome job. Fabulous guitar player
James Browning: GREAT SOLO!!!! SWEET!!!!! (Listened to this guitar solo....a number of times. LOVE "his style & CHOPS".
All the deceased members are greatly missed. This newer lineup has talented guys but boy did I love Barry Bailey's sound!

One the greatest songs ever
I got to see them at Jacksonville University,North Florida in the late 70th, i really like the band and the music.
We just saw them play last night in Kansas. I didn't know they were still around. Both lead guitarists were incredible. It was a great show.
They WERE and still are GREAT guitarists.
A guitar masterpiece...great night they had.
That guy is burning .
he's doing things on the strat that are just amazing, barry bailey used a Gibson les paul, which is known for quality of a jazz and mood guitar, this kid is amazing, and the bass player is off the chain good, unreal sound
Thank you .. thank you .. thank you .. dude can definitely "zing those strings"!!!
I agree with
bisp25
, Barry smoked the lead on this song on "Are You Ready". Damn I'd like to have a copy of that again. Wore the tape out in my younger days. All time favorite of ARS. RIP Ronnie!
"Wow" love this song.. great guitars.. 10 X awesome!!

I saw ARS at Disney world in Orlando Florida in 1978 at Grand night
Our greatest guitarists😊😊
Still love this music...
great stuff, thanks!

I first clapped ears on this band in the early 1970s, been consistantly good ever since.👍🎸
what a great band and i mean great should be in the hall of fame truly feel good music
I saw the ARS open for ZZ Top on the Top's Texas Road Show tour in support of Fandango (1974? 75?). Boy, was that a far cry from this. They rocked their rear end's off back in the day.
real music!!!!!!
Just discovered this addicting song and awesome band. I’m hooked.
All class fabulous live stuff hard to beat.

These guys were awesome!!! (Still are!)
What a group and what awesome tunes to jam with at one of our keg parties back in the day 🌴✌️ARS you d’best ✌️
"Voodoo in the night"... oh yeah, I know that feelin' and this tune was there way back when... sweet!!!
Steve… always saw him with a guitar in school
Saw them last year - nothing but the hits. RIP Paul

Wow!so incredible.thank you.rob.
What a great band this song is the best rhym of Lyrics for romance I just love it this is a great version live...
I saw ARS in Franklin Tennessee a couple of years ago, before Dean retired. Both guitar players were so completely unbelievable. God, they were good. Justo was hittin all the notes at great pitch, Dean always there doing his foundation stuff. What a great band I will miss them forever.
Great southern Rock.....
Great job , keep this great music.alive y'all. !
Saw these guys as the opening act for Lynyrd Skynyrd in late 76' in Nashville. Awesome fucking show all night long!
I cant even imagine it. Wush I was there.
I love this song.
ARS was a great band. Many memories listening to their music.
Great band !!! Always loved this 🥰
I didn't hear this song until years after it had been released. I was mesmerized by it.. Think nothing of playing it 50 times in a roll.. Do something else, come back, and play it again.
Great sound!! And they still sound just as great as when they first begun!Wow Fantastic!
Steven Stone...american guitarist..legend.
Have you read some of these idiots comments wtf!!??
Good as he may be, but both Barry Bailey and J. R. Cobb are the ones to listen to!
NICE RIDE...The AWESOME Steve Stone....one for my Favorite list : )
he's sharp as hell!
Love that Rickenbacker bass sound.
I had a Rickbass back in the day then sold it ,what a dummy.😂
paul goddard a beast on bass
Spectacular 👌 l love this song 🍀
Seen ARS in person, stagefront, later backstage, at the SEAFOOD FESTIVAL, Atlantic Beach N.C. in SEPT/OCT 1989, when they played an outdoor free show/just one band of six that played that day. There was also NANTUCKET, ELVIN BISHOP, 10cc, and a BEATLES and a CAPT & TENNILE TRIBUTE BAND. There were two stages. Its a weekend thing and ut happens every year after the Blue Marlin Tourney in Beaufort NC.
The guitar player is great but that tone is far too 80s hair metal for me...what I loved about Barry Bailey and ARS was the organic tube-overdriven tones... it let the natural sound of the guitar sneak through. RIP Paul and Ronnie ....miss you guys.
Barry had a Fred Astaire quality...he is just so stinking smooth. He is woefully under appreciated. I would love to sit and BS with him over lunch or something.
NOT HAIR METAL, CLASSIC 70's ROCK.
He is playin with them for more than 20 years.
spot on! this song is blues central! use the neck pickup dude up the top end and the bridge down the nut! mix it up! he butchered this!
@Frank Rottach too heavy and too many misplaced notes .
wow. never heard this version amazing the best live tone I've ever heard overwhelmed. thanks for posting. god bless
Bass that you can truly feel... a rare thing
I would love to see this group
Getrealpeeps Around 1970 at the Fillmore in San Francisco they played a one hour set. Before them 4 mediocre local bands played their sets and almost everybody left. What was left filled the front row only. They played their hearts out and blew our socks off. I Will never forget. The tightest most professional rock band I ever saw/heard.
+Rolf Dusseldorf Great story! Unfortunately, kids nowadays don't have that same privilege. I saw VH open for Sabbath at MSG in '78. What a monster performance by VH. I was blown away.
I was so lucky to see them twice in Tallahassee and once in Franklin Tennessee. God, I love that band.
Goddard's bass is unusually crisp in this version
He was such a great bass player!
The way bass was meant to sound. I tried to make mine sound like that when we'd jam.
Bass is get'nit.
Rickenbacker basses are crisp, YES was using one back when the Eagles were their opening act.
sounds terrible
I seen em in Atlanta, Wet Willie, Lynard Skynrd, An 38 Great Show. Also Georgia Satellite s. , Back in The 90' s. What A Show!!!🎶🎤🌠🌌
love the sound of that Rickenbacker and Ampeg
I worked for a sound company that serviced ARS from about 1986 to 1995. We got the account after a riot happened in Erie, PA and the sound console was burned. Great Band, many great songs!
Amazing!!!!!!!
BEAUTIFUL ❤️😇
That was awesome.
Steve Stone! Making Chamblee High School proud brother!
I Love you ARS😊
A great band a great song I love it
hell yeah
