A mosquito bite that happened during vacation doesn’t seem to be healing after weeks, what could be wrong? You can’t help but itch the spot when you suddenly feel something new… Something in there… Something… wiggling?
When you find out there’s something living inside you, would your first instinct be removing it? Entomologists Gil Wizen and Piotr Naskrecki had a different idea - carrying a parasite to term. What happens when someone is excited to let parasites infest their bodies? Let’s get into it!

I was bitten by a horse fly once. The bite wouldn't heal and was itching terribly for a few weeks. I browsed the net and I found out they can put their larvae in your body so I freaked out, took some nail clippers and I opened the wound and cut some of the mess out. I don't recall finding any larvae but it stopped the itching and the wound healed after a few days after the "surgery" (I probably successfully cut out the infested parts). I still have a small scar though.

Unfortunately I've had fly larvae in a wound before.. So I know the feeling, it was probably the most disgusting thing I've ever had to experience and quite painful considering the wound was infected.
At the hospital before they did surgery on me I was asked by a nurse if the doctor had put them in my wound because apparently those fly larvae eat dead flesh... But no, I was just unlucky enough to have an open wound in the middle of summer and a fly laid eggs in it during a moment I had the wound uncovered to let it breathe.
This might sound like a rare freak incident but it's more common than you'd think.

Regardless if the botfly is harmless compared to most parasites, it is still not advisable to attempt what was done by these people in these stories. You don't know what you're putting inside your body until it's already there. On the off chance that you get the type of mosquito that causes Elephantiasis planting bugs in you, you're toast. You don't want to have your body messed up by that.

I'm actually very grateful for this video. I've always had a phobia of parasites or creatures invading my body and living inside of me. The very thought of something living entering me and doing stuff to my body brought unbridled fear and drove my stress levels off the charts. However, now seeing this video, where at least this arguably "safest" parasitic organism is viewed under a scientific lighting, and thoroughly explained how it does what it does, granted me new insight to this world of creatures I feared. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to do a 180 and start wanting more of them, but it did open my mind to not fear the unknown, and to take a step back and study my enemies to better know how to react and not panic. The name bloat fly was always something I heard about when it came to extracting a creature from someone, or from someone's pet here and there, so I had a faint familiarity with this going in. Now equipped with better knowledge and a first-hand experience of someone who purposefully incubated the creature on their person, an odd sense of relief has washed over me now that I realize that not all of these parasites are "insta-death" things that will throw a wrench into my life. Thanks Brew. 🦊👍

Edit. Also it's important or good because they might bury deeper.
For things like tics thought you need specialized tools. They will bury deeper or you win. But they leave there mouth there leaving infection, diseases and several other complications.

I had one of these larvae on my arm once. My mom had a method... you put a thick square of bacon over the hole and patch it with medical adhesive tape. The insect will eat a way through the bacon as if it was the host's flesh.
When I took the "bacon patch" off, one our later, the larvae was dead over my arm. Half of it inside me ant half was inside the bacon that I pulled of. Took of the animal with hygienic paper and put medical disinfectant and band-aid in the small hole.
It worked as weird as it sounds.

Like a pregnant woman who can’t go through with an abortion. Obviously completely different things but I wonder if there is a relation with our hormones
